___/\___ \o/ ___

I was intrigued to see this at the bottom of the SDMB page:

Hmm, funky username, I thought. But what’s this? Banned, after 1 post?

Is it a name thing? Are Dopers not allowed to act pictographic?

I tell you, our chances of attracting Prince to the boards won’t be improved by this…

Banned, and single post apparently deleted. Another lost sock, I suppose.

The irony is, _/_ \o/ ___ doesn’t even make sense pictographically, unless the swimmer is being attacked by a buoy.

_)_ \o/ ___, now that makes sense.

He/she/it has been doing this the last two days. There was a pretty fishy for a while there. So sockitude, or multiple usernames or what have you. Tuba Diva did ask the fishy permutation to pick a different username, and a kittycat appeared. This one (I dunno, bisected man hit by a bus? Martini, before and after?) just asked about “unwritten rules about usernames” in ATMB, and I pointed it to the written rule instead.

He’s been very busy registering ASCII art names, one after the other. The first time he was asked nicely to email Tuba with a more appropriate choice of username. Apparently he didn’t like that idea.

Aaaahhhh! Now I get it. Thanks!

I just thought he was a particularly poor practitioner of the old cup-and-ball routine…

Perhaps I have an evil mind-my interpretation didn’t involve swimming or buoys

As in all such cases, we don’t want to give the guy attention. He/She is obviously looking for attention – negative or positive, doesn’t matter – and if we don’t give him any, perhaps he’ll go away and bother some other board.

So, please, if you must know more, email a moderator. But otherwise, the question of what happened has been asked and answered, and we’d prefer not to have further discussion.
