A Beary Special MMP

Happy Birthday Swampy!

You know what they say about the best-laid plans of mice and men???

Well, Mr. Appraiser was quick, promising to get his report to our credit union on Monday - yay. So it was off to lunch. But we needed to make a run to the convenience center, so first stop was to get rid of trash and recycling. We timed it just right - we arrived when the place was empty, and as we left, maybe 5 minutes later, there were 3 trucks unloading trash and 3 more waiting in line.

From then, we went to Ruby Tuesday’s to have the fancy-pants burger that **FCD ** had for lunch the other day and raved about. I wasn’t impressed. After eating, we scooted over the bridge to West Marine to check out the GPS chartplotters. All we need is to find a spare $1K lying around. I asked **FCD ** to drive home to see if he noticed the odd bumping I’d noticed the other day at 10MPH. After feeling it too, he thought something was wrong with one of the rear tires, so next chance we got, we pulled into an empty parking lot.

Oh yes, there was something wrong - the right rear tire had a huge bad section of tread - it looked like a quarter-sized round spot in the middle of a 6" long bald stretch. We immediately called our favorite tire place, but they’d just closed, so we called another one who said they’d be open till 6. We headed over there, feeling all sorts of strange bumps and shudders. I pulled into a parking space, **FCD ** got out of the van and said “It’s flat!” And lo, it was. It must have just died because there was no damage to the wheel.

We asked them to replace that tire and the next worst one, and put the new ones on the front. I figured I’d need to replace the other 2 before winter, anyway, but no sense going crazy, right? So we moseyed over to Wendy’s, then walked thru a hardware store before heading back to the tire place.

As it happened, they’d put the new ones on the back, so they pulled the van back in to switch them, but they suggested we look at the two old ones. They were pretty bad, too, so what the heck - we had them replaced also. It’s only money, right?? <sigh> Now the question is: What will die first - the van or the tires? I’ve got almost 183K miles on it. The tires are supposed to last 70K miles. Will I make it to a quarter of a million miles?? Any bets?

Oh yeah, and while we were at Wendy’s, a red car amidst 8 sheriff’s and State Police cars went speeding by. Word has it ol’ red had been pursued from Charlotte Hall, about 15 miles away. They managed to stop the car about a quarter mile down from Wendy’s, and the whole road was blocked off. A bit later, an ambulance joined the flashing lights, and shortly thereafter, all was clear. After I post this, I’m going to check on our community message board and see if anyone knows about it.

So, it’s almost 6 now. I was in my studio long enough to empty the dehumidifiers in the deep sink. I won’t be throwing anything till tomorrow. Such is life…

I went to the new linens store today. ::drool:: They had gorgeous things, but a bit pricey. Still, maybe I’ll save up and one day buy one of the beautiful down comforters that they had there. They had several colors of them.

Testing, testing…Still nothing?

Damn.

::crickets::

Oh, yay!

Welcome back?

I was off here all last night anyway, went to see Pirates Dos with the wife, then off to sit outside and get the chill from the over-A/C’d theater out of us. Had a couple burgers, then home to watch a couple Harry Potter movies.

What you-all been doing?

Hello, hello! I’m here! Good Lord! I’ve been trying to get here since before 8:00 this morning!

I was jonesing big time and was reduced to reading news sites, and playing on-line Mah Jong.

At any rate, there is nothing exciting to report from the Taters household. We spent the day yesterday doing absolutely nothing. It was sooooooooo nice. I did fry up some Maryland style fried chicken and I did a load or two of laundry. Other than that, I watched a lot of IFC and HGTV.

I haven’t done a thing today either. I’ll have to get in the shower and get cleaned up. Then I need to start tidying up the house and kitchen.

My mother is coming over this evening so I can help her out with some paperwork for the oncologist. My mother is originally from Germany and sometimes she still has problems with paperwork because of how she translates things in her mind. I’ve been doing this kind of stuff for her since about 4th grade. No lie. I used to write my own excuse notes for missing school and have her sign them.

Tonight’s dinner is pork tenderloin roast. We’ll probably have taters and gravy, or rice. I’m not sure yet.

Oh, how I’ve missed you all!

I fooled around and accomplished nothing, except losing at checkers and winning at dominoes.

We’re back? Really? YAAAAYYAYAYAYAYYAYAYA. Ahem.

I’m okay now, I swear.

Whew - good timing! With the boards being down, I got a lot done! After breakfast, I headed to the studio. Final tally - I threw 17 new pots - larger ones this time. I’ve exceeded my goal of 50 pots for the show - I might be able to make up another kiln load… maybe… I trimmed 4 of the pots before I pooped out, so I wrapped the rest, cleaned the mess, and hit the shower.

I’ve got a hunk of London broil in the rotisserie, which will be augmented with peas-n-carrots and cucumber salad. The critters have been fed, and I’m chillin’ for the rest of the evening.

Sad to say, if the boards had been up, I don’t think I’d have accomplished as much.

I don’t have any excuse. The boards as we all know were down, but I didn’t accomplish a thing.

I’m feeling slightly peckish. The hubby has run out to get us some teriyaki. I should have told him to get me yaki soba instead. Oh, well. Can’t complain. I didn’t have to go get it.

Hello! I am back, after thinking that there was something wrong with my computer–adn finally figuring out the the board was down. I have survived boot camp! And I loved every minute of it–I wish I could go back. (the friends I made there, we all agree that we have Stockholm Syndrome in a big way). I learned so much about the roles of librarys in society etc–very interesting and just plain good!

Missed you all something fierce (saw buses and thought of you know who, that sort of thing), and have to work tomorrow, so won’t be here. But Tuesday–look out, I will be catching up.

Oh, and the dishwasher, microwave and disposal were all installed whist I was gone-so I now have a FULLY functional kitchen!
Life is very good here.

YAY RIGS!!!

Congrats on flourishing in boot camp. What did they have you guys doing? I want a full report!

Well, i did some html coding and even made a Web page! Unbelievable! And I learned alot about issues (political, social, economic and other) that involve libraries. I also became a bit more comfortable with my laptop and with some puter skills. We long distance learners post on a BB there (different BB for every class)–it’s like going from a Jaguar (SDMB) to a Model T–talk about primitive! And I’ve been told to NOT use BB speak (or code) on the school BB. <sigh> Oh, to bring civilization to simple people–tis not an easy task.

Hi Rigs! Glad to see you back and glad to hear boot camp went well.

I’m also glad you came back to a fully functioning kitchen. That’s always nice.

Well, I’m going to log. Got some stuff to do.

Yay rigs for finishing boot camp and getting a fully functional kitchen!

Hey y’all! I’m baaaaaaaaaaaaaack!!!

First, thanks for all the bday wishes. This place is jaker than a fresh Depends, a shot of Geritol and just cleaned dentures.

As I mentioned earlier, my sis, bil and two friends came down from my hometown to hang out and help me celebrate. That was fun. We went to the Harley-Davidson store because my bil and the other guy are Harley fanatics and had never been to this store so it was a must. I bought two tshirts that were on sale. Bil and friend bought a buttload of stuff. Then we all went to Hooter’s for lunch. Then everybody congregated out at ye old cee-ment pond for swimming, lounging, libating and general carousing. We grilled burgers and dogs and had chips and baked beans. Then we ate some of my bday cake. Then everybody went home and we pt stuff away and went to bed. All in all a nice day. I scored some cash, a couple of gift cards, a case of beer, and a bottle of wine shaped like a fish. So, pretty nice swag if’n I do say so myself.

Today I’ve been working on reports that are due for work. I would have finished it all but somebody out at the home office decided to send the wrong cd out, so I am missing some current info. The bad thing is, I can’t finish what I’m doing. The good part is, I get to go on and on about how I’d like to finish up but unless I’m given the correct tools to finish the job, I won’t be able to. I love it when I get to write email like that and follow it up with a phone call tomorrow. I also love the fact that the fact that the reports ain’t done ain’t my fault and nobody can blame me. Dang that feels good!

Bobbio don’t you get all high falutin’ about that there indoor plumbin’ now. We don’t take to well to folks puttin’ on airs. :stuck_out_tongue:

So, who’s up for tomorrow’s MMP?

whew I thought it was my computer, or worse my cable connection
Yesterday I went out to run a few errands and threw a fun one in for good measure - I went to Claire’s and bought over a dozen more earrings - I love Love LOVE that store.
I was supposed to go to a BBQ today, but the Peapod guy (who came at 10am) told me I’d be better off staying in the AC - it was already over 90 F and way up beyond 90% humidity. So I called and made my excuses - and at about 12:30 took a nap -
I dreamed I was in a talent show, and in getting ready, I needed to borrow a friend’s pants because mine were ripped - So I chose a pair of lime green Bermuda shorts which went with this 60’s psychodelic print top I was wearing - and my friend got upset because his shorts fit me (yeah, his shorts - go figure) So as I was going back around to the auditorium, I ran into the brother of our chorus’ former director, and he was wearing an old fashioned red striped vaudeville jacket and straw hat - I looked in the mirror and so was I - so we decided to do a couple of duets. And while we were rehearsing, he realized that the waitress had borrowed his knife to cut a cake, and never gave it back so he ran into the kitchen to retrieve it, with no luck. So he ran back to his bungalow to cry. Meanwhile, I noticed an unusual knife on top of a filing cabinet. It had a metal handle and was shaped almost like a comb - it even had teeth instead of a blade. I ran to show it to Jack and tracked through some yucky mud, getting my shoes all gunked up. I gave him his knife and ran back to the stage, hoping that my guitar was still there, since Jack was obviously still in to much of a state to join me on stage. As I was opening the guitar case, Jack showed up and we got ready to perform. As we went on stage, so did 6 mines who were apparently accompanying each act and doing some improve dance number to each song. So another friend rolled the mines up in a carpet and took them away, while I said “We don’t need no expository interper-a-ta-tion-alistic dancin’ here, boys” - then I woke up.

Wow rosie what did you take and/or eat before you took a nap? :stuck_out_tongue: Mimes (or mines) doing expository interper-a-ta-tion-alistic dancin’? I always thought they were more of the free form jazz persuasion.

I just ate some of my bday cake (chocolate with a non-dairy icing) and some Neapolitan ice cream. YUM!

And this week’s award for the weirdest dream goes to…

Dinner was good. Ice cream was good. Things are about to get a little less good, because I need to stretch my shoulder. It is not fun. But it ain’t gonna get better by itself.

<sigh> and so ends another weekend.

I want cake too! Hmph. :o

Spats it’s only about a three hour drive from PC to the swampcave. Come on up. I’ll even give ya some ice cream cause that’s just how nice I am.
