A "Bewitched" question: Which Darrin?

Okay, Halloween is coming up and in honor of one of my favorite witches (LOL), I’m polling to find out which Darren is preferred more by SDMB.

IMHO, it’s Dick York (Darrin #1) by far! He just ruled; he could do the very best takes, and he had by far the most indignant voice, especially when turned into something else by Endora! Nothing against Dick Sargent (Darrin #2), mind you; but for me, “Bewitched” “jumped the shark” when they switched Darrins!

Another vote for York, who could play that essential Darren “twitchiness” far better than the more likeable but blander Sargeant.

Plus York had that really creepy greasy hair thing going. . .

Sir Rhosis

Another vote for York.

~~ York!

Sargeant was there to get paid… He was nothing more than a
Rent-A-Husband…

York.

York,of course.

The ironic thing about this debate was that Dick Sargent was the first pick to play Darren.

But I think there’s little debate on this subject–York. This is likely to be as competitive a poll as a “Ginger or Mary Ann” poll.

Gary Cooper played Sergeant York

Guh, Dick York. Dick Seargent was such a stick in the mud. But I always did have a soft spot for…Uncle Arthur.

Definitely Dick York. The chemistry between him and Montgomery was better than with Sargent. York’s Darrin was more loving and a little more good-natured. Sargent’s was meaner and IMO bitter.

Dick York of course. He was a better actor.

Need I really post my favourite? Is there any way to make the suspense last?.. York, of course. This is sort of a landslide.

Just to add to the landslide… York.

He was more fun. Sargent was really uptight.

The first one is almost always the best, I’d have to go with York. Bewitched fans will also note that nosey neighbor Mrs. Kravitz was played by two different actresses, Allice Pearce and Sandra Gould. I might pick the latter as the best in this case, just because Sandra Gould had that shrill yell “Aaaaaabner!”

For the record, it’s Darrin. I have a special interest, since my name is also Darin. Spelled differently, of course. I also have Bewitched to thank for being called Durwood all my life, thanks.

I think York was the definitive Darrin Stevens. I think that’s one of the universal truths of the universe, or something.

I’m moving this to Cafe Society.

BTW, Dick York was a one-dementional actor who would have floundered in the multi-part story line where Samantha had amnesia and was being stalked by Henry the VIII. The interplay between Endora and Dick Sargeant’s Darrin was perfect.
