At least 4 inches of snow won’t close your airports for several days, as happened in Europe. Oddly enough the storm seems to be missing Montreal (30% chance of flurries). This happened last winter too. A major storm hits south of us and we just get a couple flurries.
Gotta love reverse 911 – I just got a call from the Streets Department telling me my trash and recycling won’t be picked up tomorrow.
I’ve got to drive tomorrow from where I currently am (western PA) back to the Albany area. It could get dicey on I-88, but I’ll have to see where it’s snowing in the morning.
Those of you who have to be out in a snowy mess: please be careful. I’ll be sending prayers and good thoughts for all of you.
There seems to be about an inch of fine snow now, and off and on wind.
It’s times like this that I miss being a kid.
So? We, here in Central NYS, got SIX FEET OF SNOW before it was even officially winter. We will miss this one by a hair, maybe get 3 inches.
Awesome. The white Christmas was a real treat for my boys, who have only seen snow once before and then it was just a light dusting.
I can. By the pricking of my thumbs, my Grandaddy’s bitching this way comes…
Also - I don’t know how you guys in the northeast do it. I almost froze to death today!! More power to you, and please be safe and warm.
Northern NJ here. I just went out a few minutes ago. The snow came up right past my knees. Granted I’m short but that’s still a lot of snow. The snow is quite powdery and not very wet so it’s blowing everywhere. I can’t even see the end of my block because visibility is so poor. You can feel the gusts of wind outside and see the snow that has piled up against my windows and in my yard. They’ve cancelled all bus service in the state so my husband has to stay home because he can’t get into work in NYC. This is definitely one of those days when I’m glad I work at home. We went food shopping on Friday so we’re good. I just hope the power doesn’t go out. I have a flashlight in my pocket just in case. Even my Maine Coon kitty has declined an invitation to explore the outdoors.
It’s 10:30pm here and we’ve got maybe 6 inches of fluffy, dry snow, so not too bad yet. But, the wind is bad and they’re saying the worst of it will be overnight. It now looks like southwest of Boston is going to get the highest totals. Huge winds on the coast with lots of power outages in southern MA.
It looks like we got maybe 3" of snow here.
It’s really windy at the moment, but not snowing. Guess I’ll end up going to work after all.
I was just going to get into the shower when I looked outside to see it’s freezing rain.
I think I’ll be staying home today.
We got 16" of snow. I might be inclined to battle my way to work if my tonsils didn’t feel like they were on fire. So I’m working from home today.
We got about a foot here in Philly – hard to be sure, it’s drifting like mad.
Discovered that my snow shovel is broken (handle loose) before I was even off the porch – sigh. Tried a duct tape fix, then just grabbed my next-door neighbor’s. (Other half of a twin, I just had to lean over the low wall between our porches.) I don’t know why they have two – they never freaking shovel, despite having two 20something young men living there. #grumblegrumblegrumble. (That was an hour and a half ago, still no sign of life from over there.)
Here in NYC, it’s been snowing since 1PM yesterday. Right now there’s at least 2 feet of snow on the ground, my street hasn’t even been plowed, and the subway and railroads are all shut down, which means I have absolutely no way to get to work today. This is the first official snow day of my adult career!
Southern Maine checking in, here.
We’ve got a lot of snow and a ton of wind, but mostly it’s in drifts, some up to 3’ tall, without an even cover elsewhere. It’s still snowing and blowing right now, but supposed to stop this afternoon. We haven’t lost power, miraculously, but the generator is ready if we do.
I think we ended up with less than an inch. I lay down a layer of salt on the driveway before it started and it was clean when I woke up this morning.
my cat ripped off the weather stripping on the front door, so this morning i had a half inch of snow in the vestibule. so i had to sweep a bit before shoveling.
my neighbour across the street was very nice last night, he would come out and shovel the walks on both side of the street. gonna have to get him some festive beverages. so i didn’t have much to shovel this morning. just sweep the steps off and about a half inch on the side walk.
the street itself is gonna be a bear for a bit. it is drifting onto the side where the cars are parked.
A few days ago they were talking about us in the DC area getting 3-6 inches, then yesterday we were supposed to get 1-3 inches. This morning there was nothing.
