A Brief History of Ratdom - AKA the MMP

I am truly not happy with my job today. Mostly because I have a severe case of the Don’t Wannas, which I usually manage to have coincide with a down day; when I get the Don’t Wannas and I have a deadline hanging over my head like a guillotine blade, it’s just a truly Not Fun Day. And of course, in the time-honored tradition, the work with the shortest deadline runes the longest because people just talk too damn fast. Talk slowly, people, the court reporter will thank you for it if you ever up on the witness stand!

Yay for getting to go home, Rosie! And I’m sure, like me, Rosie is cringing at even the thought of your skinned knees, Swampy. At this point I think it’ll be at least six months before I can even kneel and put my full weight on my knee – right now I can put about 10% weight on my knee as long as I’m on a bed or something super-soft. But to fall on a brand-new bionic knee? Like I did in April? Don’t wanna go there! (Advice from the stupid and clumsy, Rosie: Whatever you do, be careful not to trip and fall on your knee!!!)

Congrats on finishing a year of school, meli! And taking Ali home to meet the family? Highly brave of both of you!

Back to the salt mines for me. Other than that, I got nuttin’.

::grumble, grumble::

I haven’t said this in a while so in case anyone’s forgotten, I hate the #@&$ frickin’ forecast! GAH!

I certainly hope it was not this kind of Hyacinth that Mindude saw!

Laundry is done, and I am eating dinner and listening to the hockey game. To continue the theme, I am having Manwiches for dinner.

Yay RoboRosie!! Listen to Nurse Smokey, and take it easy.

Glad Scruffy is less dizzy, FCM.

Mork, I was gonna comment on da bear’s knees, but I didn’t feel going for the easy <snerk>.

Good luck on the job, meli!

We had bad Chinese for supper, then got FCD’s prescriptions filled. We’re both in the wind-down mode - me with 2 doggies at my feet, him with a cat on his lap. Life is good.

Is it Friday yet??

One of the many benefits of regularly doin’ the horizontal tango with a nurse is gettin’ top notch booboo care. Ol’ y’all know who came back from a trek to west Alabammy today and stopped by da cave armed with sterile pads, that good white tape stuff nurses like to use and upscale antibiotic cream. I say upscale cause I can’t even pronounce the name of it, so that means it’s the good stuff, right? So, I now have nurses instructions (he even put the cream and bandages on my knees tonight…awww…) to take the bandages off my knees in the morning, wash 'em with antibacterial soap and put the cream on but no bandages during the day cause the knees look like they’re starting to heal over. I like personalized booboo care.

So, tomorrow Ima make meat loaf, mac & cheese, steamed cabbage, peas and okra (they’re cooked together so they’re one thing) and corn bread cause I happen to know that’s one of somebody’s favorite meals. Besides I need to do sump’n with that cabbage before it goes bad. He takes care of booboos, I cook. That way “appreciation” can be a mutual thing.

Though he did giggle Saturday when I called him and told him about my booboo. That was uncalled for. I should make him eat boiled hawg liver and brussels sprouts for that, shouldn’t I? I won’t though. Cause he does give good booboo care.

ETA: Also the thought of boiled hawg liver and brussels sprouts is makin’ me kinda queasy.

I am posting from my brand-new wireless setup. I like it. I lugged the laptop around the house just because I could.

Post whilst upon the throne and tell us all about it. :stuck_out_tongue:

Do we really need to know so much about each other?

I am (finally) cataloging my books. It will probably take weeks. Mr. SCL has promised to make me some temporary bookshelves so I can move books around while I decide how I want them arranged.

Hey, you supply the TMI in this thing. I maintain a lofty demeanor of detachment from such things.

Good evening, all.

Yay, rosie! Home to the kitty!

I don’t have anything to add, I just wanted to post.

Then how bout whilst in the bathtub?

That would be kinda hawt.

I am stuffed full of pad thai and have a thesis to work on. Grumble grumble.

Oh yeah, so my grandpa ended up making what seems to be a full recovery. So that’s actually worked out as well. He’s a nice guy. He taught Physics for Repairmen for Sears for several years, so he can go into the physics of electricity and cooling refrigerators and whatnot. And he makes it sound interesting.

Well that’s just the first chapter. Just say if you want to carry on and I’ll see if I can get the rest up and some links to you. (Don’t want to release all of it to the wide world before I’m sure it won’t be picked up.)

Posting in my jammies is as wild as I get. Take it or leave it.

That’s good about your grandpa, Sage.

Well, I was going to gripe about the lack of posts, but it seems that everyone got all chatty while I was typing. And made me giggle, even.

Forgot to ask about your grandfather, OWWO (I’m stuck on Rebo’s Oh Wise Whiskered One - doesn’t it have a cool acronym?) Glad he’s doing so well. And that sounds like an interesting job. Who’d’a thunk someone taught physics to the people who come to fix appliances?

Lovely to see you drop by, meli. Glad the family visit went well. Although I think Mr. McCello could also stop by and tell us his version of the story so that we have information about both experiences.

Not sure about the job thing. If it’s fundraising for a cause you actually believe in, maybe you’ll improve some skills. If you don’t really believe in what you’re calling about, then you should probably start looking for something else. Unfortunately, a lot of people get worked up about cold calls (which is what I assume you’re doing). I always try to keep it short but polite because I know that whoever’s calling is just doing their job. But I never have a whole conversation with the caller; I just tell them I’m not interested and to please take me off their calling list. This results in extremely few calls. In any case, don’t take it personally; they’re not being rude to you, they’re upset that your employer is interrupting whatever they were doing. There are a whole lot of jobs where it’s really important to learn not to take things personally, so if this is a job you want/need to stay in, that might be something you can gain from it.

Hope you’re feeling better, BooFae.

And yay! rosie’s coming home! Yay! Hope everything goes smoothly. And don’t worry about the ambulance thing. People will understand if you tell them they weren’t permitted to let you go in on your own. Also, think of it as one less opportunity to have an ungraceful moment (not that you would, but I surely would) and hurt your new knee. We’ll want details about the trip and about your stay and the PT and OT and what it’s like to be home, of course.

Mork, are the flowers planted on purpose or could they be weeds? There are a couple of weed varieties I can think of offhand that they might be too. One is ground ivy, which is really a bit more pink than purple. Can’t remember what the other one is called, but I’ll think about it and come back with it.

Congrats on the successful wireless installation, Tel! Isn’t wireless just the best thing ever? Well, since broadband, anyway.

I’ve made progress in planting. Today, I planted all perennials: some perennial salvias, and blue hair grass, and baptisia, and catmint and something else I’m forgetting. Yesterday I planted a few containers and did some more clean-up and organizing. I’m hoping to have everything planted by the end of next weekend. Hopefully the weather will cooperate. Eventually I’ll take pictures, too.

Well, need to get some laundry put away and continue some clean-up and organizing.

P.S. I’m posting in my jammies too! Whee! Does this mean we’re having a pajama party?

Y’all are boring. I make it a point always to be naked/drunk/high when I post to the MMP.

I have catalogued 295 books tonight. My hands are too sore to type anymore.

Hank, dear, I mean this in the most respectful and polite way: :stuck_out_tongue:

SCL: Ow!

Off to check the laundry.
