A Circusless MMP

Howdy y’all.

Spidey the point you are trying to make sounds reasonable, if you had arranged something in advance with someone, such as Swampy, to be first line of defense in case something happened to elderly parents while you were at the shore. Sounds like they did not do so. Second, Swampy is too nice a fellow to leave someone alone at the hospital, so of course he stayed. He had every right to read the riot act to JDD and sister when they got back.

Sari yay for future puppy!

Bumba - can you take your cousin out of your feed? Then you can still go look at her page, but you won’t get hit with the winners when you haven’t seen the show yet.

It’s raining for the fourth day in a row. Still haven’t heard from the temp place.

The septic tank is getting pumped tomorrow. Irish Storyteller took the day off so he can loom intimidatingly over the septic guys if they get too near his hemlocks. It will be interesting if nothing else.

Sheesh, typical, you wait until I’m on my annual run away with the circus and then start talking about them. I likes the circus (they are animal free over here, the odd hoss excepted), though I rarely go to the little travelling ones, for the simple reason that I have so many friends who are Serious Performer types that my standards are a bit high… I’ve been to a couple because a friend was performing, but not often.

I go to a lot of circussy shows though (not to mention the multi day conventions several times a year), especially juggling, and hula hoop, because that’s what I (badly) do, but all the juggling events wind up with aerial acts and the odd clown and stuff. We have a circus school locally, so I’ve been to quite a few events there, because I wind up knowing students and teachers through the juggling scene.

Admittedly, the juggling/circus event I’ve been at all week is the laaaaziest one in the known universe. I actually did less circus related stuff there than I would have done if I stayed at home, and most other people were doing about the same. We all just went to the seaside at one point and bought ice creams. It was jolly nice and extremely relaxing. Almost relaxing enough to make up for having to brave the M25 during Friday rush hour on the way there (I timed it better on the way back).

I’ve never seen Cirque du Soleil, but I once gatecrashed one of their backstage parties

OYKW is tied up at irk for a little while longer, poor thing, so I told him I would not start dindin until he called or shows up. Won’t take long to cook and all the prep is done. Meanwhile, I had three ‘nanners about to go bad so I decided to redeem them from their wicked ways via turnin’ ‘em into ‘nanner bread which is bakin’ away and smellin’ nummerific as I post.

Everybody at work is sick or on vacation, there’s a flood watch, a tornado watch, and the cops keep driving through my neighborhood(I’m good as long as they don’t have SCMODS. ). Also, Tir Na nOg is closing again.:frowning:

Actually, I was thinking of getting a metal goalie mask, and going Mad Max on 'em with the Zamboni.

I stopped at Food Lion on the way home and, among other things, got a rotissed chickie. It made for a good supper with fresh steamed broccoli and judgement-free instant smashed N.O.T.s. The dishwasher is doing its washing and shortly, I will assume the position in front of the TV.

It was a drizzley, cool day - didn’t get above 60!!! - and tomorrow, they’re promising t-storms and the possibility of hail. Yoiks!!! It’s supposed to get to mid-70s tho, so there’s that.

My sis is home. I understand she’ll be getting home visits by therapists for a few weeks, then she’ll go to therapy somewhere nearby. I don’t think she needs to be told to do her therapy, especially since her job requires her to be on her feet.

One more work day, then a 4-day weekend. YAY!

I’ll tell y’all why thinking about knee surgery pains me.

Some of you have heard this story…

Niece2 used in the area of Baltimore known as Curtis Bay. Curtis Bay is on the water, but not in a good way. The area has a smell all it’s own, kind of like moldy cereal and there is a lot of coal dust in the air. She had a pitbull who if wasn’t watched would hop the fence and go running.
One day he came home with a bone in his mouth and my niece looked at it and said OMG! That is part of a human leg bone. The police were called and the area was cordoned off, more bones were found and nobody knew what was going on. All very exciting because this is the kind of stuff that happens on TV, not in real life.

Not so exciting it turned out to medical waste that had been improperly and illegally disposed of. The bone my niece found was a human knee bone, probably from a knee replacement surgery.

I always knew that when a person has a knee replacement that the knee is replaced, but I had never thought about the details of how it is done. I think somewhere in my feeble mind I thought they just covered the old knee with a mechanical knee, not that they are cutting out a third of your leg bone. Picturing that leg now all floppy with no support inside just twists mu insides, and the thought of them cutting away at the bone, with a saw and/or chisel - makes me cringe.

spidey, the nursing home where I worked in college tended to have juuuust enough help if no one was having issues. If there was someone who required much more attention, they did get shipped out so that everyone else could be cared for. Not the best situation, but I can understand it.

bumba, I tend to confuse folks too. I’m a politically [del]liberal commie pinko[/del] progressive atheist, but have a CCP, a tattoo and ride a motorcycle. My sister refers to me as the renaissance redneck. :stuck_out_tongue:

Irk was irksome today. I spent a lot of time spinning my wheels. It’s chilly here too, adding to the gloom.

**sari **- when it comes to the choice between agony and surgery, bear in mind you’re asleep while they do whatever they do to fix the knee. I don’t want to think about the process, but if it meant continued mobility, I’d go for it. And that’s coming from a real pain wimp!

The [del]puppy potty place[/del] back yahd is mowed and has been inspected by the puppies. I’ve got a load of towels, and my yahd mowin pants, in the washer and as soon as it is finished I’m gonna go wash my body. Not in the washer however.

I think I’ve remembered what I needed at the store. Laundry soap.

In my previous life I was a senior programmer analyst on mainframe and midrange (mostly IBM) computers and went to great lengths to ensure that my programs acted in a rational, logical manner, so naturally I have no idea whatsoever how to make FB do* anything* I want it to do, but I will look into that.

An appropriate Good Idea/Bad Idea. Am I crazy or is that Tom Bodett doing the voiceover?

All this rain is making me gloomy. :frowning:

Dindin has been cooked and ingested. Plus the kitchen is all cleanded up. OYKW had a rough day, poor thing, and is preparin’ himself a soak in the tub. I swear if it were not for him that whirlpool tub would never get used. I have a few times but mostly I prefer to take a shower. He lurves the tub!

It’s been rainin’ off and on all day. We had one sorta tstorm as in there was some lightnin’ and thunder but not much. Lots of rain though which is good except for the fact that da yahd now needs mowage. Maybe sometime tomorrow after my appointment with the doc. It’s routine checkup time for da bear.

Yeah, but then you wake up
Although I suppose it’s worse if you don’t wake up.
But when you do, it’s gonna hurt.

I’m going to go think about puppy names for a while.

I had a hip replacement when I was 40. It hurt before it was replaced, not much afterwards.
My advisor in graduate school built a “knee machine” in which could move a cadaver knee about. A physician could damage and repair a cadaver knee and learn how to do it so that he would know what he was doing when he worked on a living one.
I saw a cadaver knee on the machine once. It smelled really, really bad.

I thought that such medical waste was incinerated.

It probably is supposed to be, but if a hospital contracts that out and the contractor is sleazy, who knows where it could end up?

They gave me morphine. Morphine, with a button on my chest that I could press for more. Understand, I am not advocating drug abuse, but if you can do it under adult supervision…

I attended a kid’s birthday party on Sunday. My knee hasn’t been the same since.

Or a damn good imitator.

I’d go for a hockey name. Walker, Sutter, TIMMAH!

My knees have survived coaching and refereeing pretty well this year, but my back has begun to give me problems. My brother had a hip replacement last year that seemed to do well and he recovered pretty quickly, so good luck on the knees, Sari.

Had my second window contractor over this AM, the third stops by Thorsday, but both estimates to date have been much lower than I budgeted, so I’ll be talking about new front and back doors with the last two contractors.

Watched soccer (Europa League final) and went out and got my hair cut, then decided to dine out at Golden Corral, so head is lighter and belly is fuller.

I’ve got this rebuilt and suped up 410ci motor that’s been looking for an interesting second life ------- count me in!
