A Course Miracles?

Over the past thirty years, I’ve been working with A Course In Miracles (google ACIM). Let me say first that I have been an indifferent student, thus, the thirty years. Someone with dedication will complete it one. Nonetheless, my time was well spent; in every instant in every day I now see nothing but miracles.

I’m interested in finding out how Dopers perceive the Course.

  1. Yes, Love is all there is.

  2. I’m a dedicated student.

  3. I see it’s value but most often pick it when I’m in despair.

  4. I’ve looked at it a few times and moved on.

  5. ACIM?

All comments are welcome. For the record, I started in 1985 at 3), moved despairingly into 2) in 2005 and got super serious when I moved to Kauai in 2011. Yes, Love is all there is.

mods: I looked around a bit but couldn’t find out how to make this into a real poll. If you will do that for me and tell me how to do it, I’ll not bother you again. John.

You can only create polls in IMHO, I believe.

Put me down for #5, though. The name is faintly familiar but I have no context for it.

Quite so. Mods please move.:o

I have a copy of the book. It is blue.

You’re on your way.

I just read about it on wiki. Sounds like yet another a load of crap.

4, I would say. Aloha

More like a 4.5. Any evidence that it deserved more than that?

 After I saw your post I was actually thinking of revising the poll to 6. But, wtf, at that rate, I probably end up with a dozen. 4.5 is fine. Try reading the intro to the Manual For Teachers right after The Workbook (1+ pages). 5 minutes might change your mind and your life. Aloha

No evidence there at all, just blather. I figure you owe me 5 minutes.

I have a dime. Aloha

I had never heard of it until this thread, looked it up on Wikipedia and now I wish I had never heard of it. Call that aloha if it helps you.

And to you. Aloha

Mods, please: Either move this to IMHO or close it. Mahalo.

I was enrolled in an ACIM course back a dozen or so years ago. It was run by the therapist I was seeing at the time, and held in a local church’s basement.

I got more out of it when we went around the room reading passages from it than I did reading it on my own. Then we’d discuss it. It reminded me of Bible study in that way.

The other thing that struck me strange at the time was that most of the people there had already taken the course. Many of them found ACIM via whatever therapy they either had been in or were currently in. My therapist – the one who led the group – was quite well known in local ACIM circles. There were people who came from 20 miles away to attend this particular course.

But do I remember much of it besides its central tenets? No. I still have the book though.

Bet it’s blue.

If you want the mods to move something, either hit the alert button or email them directly. I doubt they read every single post of every single thread.

Oh, and as to the original question posed?

No, thank you. Not my scene at all.

So was this a religion that targeted people in therapy? What were the central tenants?

+1
“Spiritual transformation” huh. :dubious:

As was mentioned above, polls cannot be created in MPSIMS. I’ve shifted this over to IMHO and added the poll options for you.

I’d suggest hitting the “new thread” option in IMHO and clicking the “post a poll” box just so you can familiarize yourself with the option for next time (you can always cancel before actually posting it). Enjoy!
