A Crisis of Unbelief or Can I Be A Christian Without the Bible?

Now now, Beadalin. Maybe Tito’s not much of a bible scholar, but he has a point. How can one just pick out the goodies about Jesus, and dismiss the rest of the bible? There’s not a lot of non-bible info about Jesus out there, is there? I don’t know what other “accounts” could lead a person to follow his teachings.
Peace,

Hmmm… Once again: Jesus the Son of man.

Debatable on the whole none of Jesus’ desciples thing:
James
1st 2nd Peter
Matthew
You seem to ignor the the main thrust of my opinion. Rather than coming up with any decent counter point to my assertion that I thought grounding one’s religion on no ground at all was silly, you just told me a bunch of half truths and insults. It is no crime to disagree with me, but I find it really obnoxious when people avoid explaining their own opinion as they attack mine. Your definition of religion is askew. I would say that most people define a religion in broader terms. I suggest you be right on the facts before dismiss other’s opinions. In the future you also might not want to sign your name “putz”, people might start to beleive it.

I should link to The Witness to JayJay over on the Pizza Parlor, since it was started in response to his comments here and on another thread there. {Anybody who visits, don’t be afraid of the OP comment about no posts from the general membership – that got changed in midstream. And JayJay, you need to pop over there and post to get that thread back on target as you wanted to review it – it’s been hijacked! Finally, full disclosure to avoid accusations of spamming: I’m a volunteer moderator on that board and that particular forum, as Gaudere and David B are here – no interest (financial, etc.) except the desire to see the board succeed.}

Matt, I think as a fellow ex-Apathist, I can handle that one – it consists in a sheer lack of interest in things metaphysical: if God will do me the honor of ignoring me, I’ll be glad to return the favor! (Fortunately, he didn’t! :eek: )

Beadalin, Also try not take statments meant to be generalization ( Jesus and his crew) so literaly. Note I never said disciples specifically. I also meant apostles, early church leaders, and the rest of the gang. And if you want to discredit John’s writing of John, you only further aid my original argument of “Then what do you stand on”. At the end of the book the writer of John (probibly John himself)says in chapter 21 of the king james version and I quote
[21] Peter seeing him saith to Jesus, Lord, and what shall this man do?
[22] Jesus saith unto him, If I will that he tarry till I come, what is that to thee? follow thou me.
[23] Then went this saying abroad among the brethren, that that disciple should not die: yet Jesus said not unto him, He shall not die; but, If I will that he tarry till I come, what is that to thee?
[24] This is the disciple which testifieth of these things, and wrote these things: and we know that his testimony is true.
Hmm that seems to shred your whole “Among other things, you might learn that Jesus and his disciples did not write their own accounts” to bits now doesn’t it. Of course they could be lieing in the bible, but that only seems further suggest you have no ground to stand on.
