Better than the other way around.
The circle of life ![]()
Howdy Y’all! I did the things and then we slothed away the day as is our wont. We enjoyed quality cee-mint pond time, nappage, and day drinkin’. The chikin nachos were nummy. Now we continue to chill, but inside in the a/c as 'tis hawt out.
Oy! I’ve spent the afternoon battling traffic around wrecks.
Remember three weeks ago when there was a tractor - trailer half way across my street with two wheels dropped off in a culvert (I was able to go around that one)? And two weeks ago when my street was closed for 4 hours (I couldn’t go around that one easily)? Today’s big wreck was out on the main drag. I got behind it when I went to pick up a prescription (tractor-trailer AGAIN!). I figured that it would be clear a couple of hours later when I went to pick up supper. Nope. To top it off, a half mile up the street, there was another wreck. Whassamatta with these folks who can’t drive?
I did get some tasty fish tacos and street corn from the taco truck for supper though. ![]()
Evening all. Got a mile of backstroking done in about 61 minutes, so along with the 25 minutes in the sauna I got a good day’s workout. Managed to stay awake all afternoon too, so should sleep well tonight.
Messed up my reservations for Antarctica (who know January had 31 days!!) and had to talk to hotels.com (made an overnight reservation to make sure I catch the international flight). I had bought it as non-refundable, so I wasn’t expecting much, but the lady on the other end found out I had a ‘free’ night from my previous stays with them, so not only am I getting a $0 room they are refunding my room cost! So that was a nice surprise. Now if I can get Aerolineas Argentinas (airline) to work with me just as well (their website in English doesn’t help much, and I don’t read Spanish). So only thing left is to decide on 2 nights hotels in Buenos Aires (never ever been there so no idea). Still have 7 months to figure it out, so not too worried.
red, is the road narrow there? Can’t figure why so many tractor-trailers are having difficulty.
JtC, ah the Valley of the Sun; it can be a “female dog” at times (but remember, it’s a dry heat…
Seanette, shooting for a pizza job? Sometimes I think human intelligence is an oxymoron, but then I come here where it is obviously not. And hope DH is drinking about a gallon of water.
Bumba, sounds like the internet company and not UPS screwed up, hopefully all will work out.
wordy, hope the girl’s night out goes well and daughter-unit has a successful meet.
Alrighty, need to finish up my triple Sudoku and be thinking about bedtime. All y’all take care.
Irked all day. I’m taking Monday and Tuesday off, so the four-day weekend has started.
I asked the Spousal Unit what she wanted for dinner. She said yoghurt. So I said I’ll go for a walk and get some exercise. But first I had some computer things to do. She said she wanted to go to dinner after all, so I had a shower and a shave. We went down the beach. She had fish & chips, and I had carbs & carbs (fish & chips). We’re settled in, with The Wizard Of Oz on TCM.
She thinks we might go paddling tomorrow. Tides don’t look good, but we can go down to the state park, which is free this weekend. The weather looks dubious, though.
metal mouse, my street, along with the offshoot side streets, is two lane with very few shoulders. On the end by the main drag, there is an industrial park that has a lot of truck traffic. More than the infrastructure can handle, I fear. ![]()
I sloshed down to the gym. Holy moly, BUCKETS of rain! The parking lot was one giant swimming pool, so my feet got soaked. Just as I got home, a friend called to say she’s stopping by later to give me a little gift. I’ll have showered and will be in my PJ’s, but she won’t mind.
red, so sorry about the crazy drivers, but yuuum on the fish tacos and street corn. I love street corn.
MetalMouse, I can’t wait for your trip so I can see photos. SO cool! And congrats on getting the well-deserved free night!
I took a nap, with feline assistance. At least twice, I became aware that Buddy, who is not a large cat, had somehow gotten to the exact center of a queen-size bed, causing me to contort around the edges. I’m a lot bigger than he is, how did he push me around like that?
Sorry. and our system doesn’t update your address until after you update your address with the Post Office. sometimes not even 25 years later. ![]()

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 71 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 91 and partly N.O.S. for the day and it might or might not rain. TWPTB are bein’ all willy-nilly once again. It will be a day of high sloth and uselessness in da cave. Maybe some quality cee-mint pond time will be had. Any need to feed will be via forage as we have plenty of sammich makin’s, chips and so forth.
doggio Gordie possibly eatin’ Fred made me think of this.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah!
Happy Sattidy Y’all!
What’s that? Hope it’s not like the road apples that the Amish horses leave on the shoulders here… ![]()
Had a pretty good sleep, but I always wake early. Critters have been tended and I’ve ingested breakfast, tho caffeination continues.
We’re going to the boat to try to figure out why certain circuits lost power, and I hope we figure out the fresh water pump issue also. There’s a chance of rain much of today, but that shouldn’t affect what we plan to do.
My only other chore for the day is cleaning the critter fountain, since I did 4 loads of dirties yesterday. We’ll see how that goes.
Happy Saturday!
Afternoon, mumpers! I meant to come and post yesterday but the afternoon got away from me a bit, although it wasn’t exciting so you didn’t miss much. Today it’s 18c/65f and mostly cloudy which explains the bright shiny sun thing! Weather app says “All the clouds are dirty, lurking bastards”.
I’ve had a busy morning as usual - went to the gym for bootcamp and spin as usual, then straight from there to the hairdressers to get a trim. I had to move my appointment for next month as we’ve been shuffling a BA flight to Dublin around because they cancelled it in April, we re-booked for May, they cancelled, we re-booked for June…what do you think will happen in June?
After the hairdressers, I had to go to the petrol station as the fuel light’s been flashing all week and the display said I had a whopping 46 miles left in the tank. There’s a petrol station on the way home from the hairdressers but they are notoriously expensive(!) so I diverted a bit and went to Asda as they are usually a bit cheaper. Even so, having done the maths, I paid the equivalent of $9.85 per gallon. I stopped at £40 and that was only half a tank. One of my friends posted on farcebook to say he paid the equivalent of $11 but I think he uses diesel which is still more expensive than unleaded.
I need a cup of tea and a lie-down after that! Off into town soon for lunch at the good Chinese place, then a few errands and home, avoiding the nasty event stuff happening in the town centre. It’s a free music event but the bands are sh*te as far as I’m concerned, and the gym music has already done significant damage to my head ![]()
seanette, I know what you mean about the critters taking up prime real estate on the bed. I’m still amazed how much of a queen sized bed a 17# dog can occupy. ![]()
Mooooooom, this is Mexican street corn. It is a yummy thing, not too hard to make at home if you have a grill, but about three steps above boiled / buttered / salted sweet corn (and that is pretty good too).
Up, caffeinating, breakfasted and fixing to do KP. On the agenda today is to mount my new license tag (not just stickers this year), make some veggie broth and take some donations to Goodwill. I also need to do the Sunday chores, since I’ll be heathenating tomorrow. One of my fellow heathens messaged me to say that we were going back to masks and the potluck would be cancelled because of the increase in Covid numbers. Will this plague ever be over?
Stay safe and healthy y’all!
Morning all. Made it to Sattiday, nothing much on the agenda so probably sloth like swampy. Weather is supposed to be nice and hot, so maybe do a thing or two outside if I can motivate myself.
Boo fae, why all the cancellations? I’d think Dublin would be a fairly popular route. Hope this one takes. And yikes! on the gas prices.
OK, onward into the weekend.
*ugh*
Why can’t I sleep past six? Halfway through my first cuppa joe.
Well, poop! I forgot to turn off the alarm on my phone so it got me up much to early this morning. I had no reason to get up. The big plans for the day involve mowing the lawn, if it doesn’t rain.
Ok, still not raining, and getting on towards a reasonable hour to start up a mower so’s to not bug the neighbors.
Stay safe, y’all!
Good morning one and all.
I have been largely absent due to the fact that my router decided to up and die on me and then the motherboard on my desktop computer all decided it was time to shuffle off this mortal coil.
I went out and bought a router what should have been basically a five-minute operation turned into a nightmare. While I got the wireless to work in the house, I still did not have an ethernet connection to my desktop. My son came down on Wednesday and that’s when we discovered my motherboard had died. Fortunately, I had a brand new desktop computer ready to go. I hadn’t set it up yet because I was going to buy new desks for the den and had never gotten around to it. At any rate, I’m back up and running.
I got everything set up Wednesday evening, but on Thursday morning, the computer required several updates and restarts, by that time I had to go upstairs to my work computer to work. On Friday, I had to go to the office to take care of stuff, so no time post in here.
Yes, I could have posted from my phone, but I HATE posting from it. I would rather have my keyboard and a large screen in front of me.
At any rate, it’s been one hell of a busy week between work, my connection woes, and several other things that have been going on. I’m bushed.
I’ve read, but retained little…sorry.
We’ve had torrential downpours for the last few days, but today is supposed to be partly to mostly cloudy. The rain returns tomorrow. The commute home yesterday was long and bad. At points it was raining so hard that we all slowed down to around 25 miles an hour just to be able to see. Then there was a 10-mile back-up to slog through and I don’t even know what that was about. After that was the usual slow and horrible traffic.
I’d like to get out in the yard today, but I’ll have to see if dries out a little first. It rained this morning and everything is still soaking wet.
Hugs and boos as appropriate. Need to get my kitchen cleaned up.
I expect a really busy weekend at the Zoo. The weather will be nice, and still a little too hot to the north and east, so a lot of people will be heading to the City to escape the heat. If all the employees show up we should be fine though.
And, I only have a four-day irk week and then I’m on vacation!!!
My annual Baseball Trip is coming up. Meeting my buddy in Charlotte NC Wednesday morning (after the Tuesday night red-eye) for a tour of minor-league ballparks down the Carolina, Georgia, and Florida coast.
Cat magic
Actually, it’s pet magic I think. Pixel used to take up half a king-sized bed, and he was a 9 lb Chihuahua.
I thought of this.
Time for another airline? Why do they keep cancelling on you? I think we’re catching up with you on fuel prices, at least in California. We’re inching towards $7/gallon, but there are stations here that are $10/gallon and higher. If it makes people more careful about how much they drive, then I’m all for it. Attacking climate change one step at a time. ![]()
taters Computers can be a right pain in the ass sometimes. I’m glad you’re back. I admit that I haven’t even tried reading the Dope from my phone, let alone post from it. I don’t blame you for not doing it.
wheelie What day of the week is the best day to go to the zoo? I’d like to head over there with the family. We used to go almost every month, but we haven’t been in awhile. Have fun on your trip!
Metal Mouse I think we’re buying a house this year instead of going to Antartica. I’m sad about that, but I will be following along with your adventures and enjoying things vicariously.
Akiko has almost mastered the dog door. She gets a Beggin’ strip if she goes through when we call, and yesterday we caught her trying it on her own. This is very exciting (to me). Playing dog butler (heh) gets old, and summer is here. I’d rather not leave a door open for her in this heat.
I’m not sure I’ve told you about my mom’s porch swallows. She has one nest on her porch, and the swallows have come back this year. There are 4 chicks in the nest and they are almost fledged. The strange part of the story is that we think one of the parents flew into the nest and died there. We don’t know what happened exactly, but there seems to be a dead swallow in the nest with the chicks. We thought that was it for the babies, but the other parent has continued to feed them and it looks like all 4 will successfully leave the nest in the next day or so. Nature is weird and amazing.
I’m off of bed rest, but plan to take things very easy. I plan to mostly read and watch For All Mankind for most of today. Maybe we’ll watch a movie, if I can get the kids to join us.
Take care everyone and Happy Saturday!
