I can’t tell you how deeply your warm welcome back affected me. Much sobbing. Let’s leave it at that. Thank you, thank you for being so kind.
On my way home from the gym yesterday, I was once again almost hit by a car, this one exiting a parking lot way too fast. The driver slammed on the brakes and stopped about 18 inches from me. She looked shocked and appalled and mouthed, “I’m so sorry!” at me. I waved and mouthed, “It’s OK” back, but truth be told, I was shaken. If she’d come straight at the exit, I’d have waited for her before walking past, but she turned a corner fast, and until she did, I didn’t think she was exiting. It’s amazing how vulnerable you feel when you’re not surrounded by 4,000 pounds of metal and plastic.
Today I had my monthly injections. I walked two miles and caught a bus that took me .5 miles from the place. But I missed the bus on the way home and thought maybe I could walk the 5.8 miles. However, I eventually ran out of sidewalk. Most of the US is constructed for drivers, not walkers. I tried to get to a bus stop, but I had a big, hairy traffic circle to navigate where all the pedestrian signals kept saying, “Use caution! Vehicles may not stop!” No sh-t. I eventually gave up and summoned an Uber. Then I walked to the pharmacy to get Rx’s, so I did get to my 7 mile minimum.
I’ve said my son gets daily migraines. His sister has only had two migraines in her life, but the one last night brought aphasia so bad, her husband–the calm-in-a-crisis type–got alarmed and took her to the ER. I’m retroactively worrying.
nut, hope you’re feeling better.
BooFae, thanks for explaining. What a horrible thing that he fell while trying to protect his neighbors. Because we know the ending, it’s so easy for the rest of us to forget how harrowing the future seemed to people back then.
shoe, HAPPY BIRTHDAY! I’m so glad you were born and that you’re part of the MMP. Please tell us how you’re doing when you get a chance. Are you looking for a new job? Taking some time to rest and get your feet back under you? We need to know because we worries, we do.
FCM, your in-laws are lucky to have such a devoted son. I guess you’ll have to decide whether it’d be worse to go or to worry about him while he’s gone without you. Either decision is right. Darn, I wish his parents would move into independent or assisted living. It’d be so much better than they think it would be.
sari, I’m so sorry circumstances dictate preparations for a funeral and that you’re basically in those circumstances alone. FWIW, I think you’re brave and doing the right thing. I hope things turn around for your mom, but if they don’t, I know you’ll be there for her, and we’ll be here for you. {{{{{{{{{sari}}}}}}}}}}
Bumba, I read the article. Holy frick. I’m glad you lived through it but am so sorry for the horrific memories you must have. Were you injured? (Please feel free to ignore the question if the answer is too painful.)
JtC: Well, GG is brave even if he’s a derp. He must’ve thought he was making the world safe from Killer Rabbit Slippers.
VanGo: I got the “What’s a cubit?” reference.
Boo, hugs right back atcha. How’re the grands?
