Well, I’ve been in NY for 4 days now, 6 to go. Things haven’t been as successful as I’d hoped (in other words, I haven’t found a job or an apartment yet! But I’m still trying… I have interviews lined up all over the place!) But I am having a good time. I’ve learned one thing in particular, though. Do NOT walk around NYC in high heels. Especially with someone over a foot taller than you. That is, unless you like having blisters the size of golf balls on the bottom of your feet! I had two interviews last Friday, and did my whole corporate dress thing… including heels. lurker forgot to mention to me, and I forgot to think, that I might be better wearing tennis shoes and carrying my heels. So, most of the weekend, I’ve been in a state of being barely able to walk! Thankfully, I’ve been several days without interviews, so I had time to recover.
Ok, for those that are interested, things have been going very well (other than the lack of job situation and the little problem at the airport when I left Tampa - they cancelled my flight and I had to fly in to a different airport). lurker’s 130 pound Godzilla dog seems to like me, which was a fear of mine. (She’s even bigger than I imagined!!!) Thursday night was a quiet night for us (long days on both our ends). Friday was a beautiful day spent in NYC, even with my poor blistered feet. We walked around a lot, and sat in several parks. The two that I remember off the top of my head were Washington Square Park, where we had a philosophical discussion, and Union Square Park, where I finally decided that I couldn’t walk any more and could we please take the subway back to the LIRR and head home???
Saturday I made the mistake of meeting a friend of mine in the City and did a lot more walking. I could barely move by the time I got back to lurker’s place, and was fighting the migraine from hell. But a couple Excedrin Migraine, a cold cloth and a 30 minute nap took care of that nicely. Then I had the pleasure of finally meeting Scralden, who spent the night with us on his way through town. He was as wonderful a person as I’d always thought he would be. He also kept his eyes open far longer than I’d expected, considering the drive he’d had to get to us.
Sunday was spent chatting with Scralden before he once more headed on his way and then, after lurker returned home from work, going out to get slaughtered in miniature golf (O, Bill and katie, the game I played in Sarasota? I was 10 times worse. Don’t ask me how, but I was!) And if lurker tries to tell you he can’t play, don’t believe him! Then we went out for a couple of drinks before heading back home.
Today has been spent looking through the paper and calling companies to set up interviews. And tonight I had the pleasure of watching Young Frankenstein for the first time. It was twice as funny as I’d been told. I have about 6 more interviews the rest of this week, and I have two Open Houses to go to tomorrow. I think we have a few other things planned before I head home on Sunday, but I don’t want to jinx any of them happening, so I’ll wait to mention them after the fact.
I don’t know how often I’ll get online to update what the situation is here, but I know I haven’t had a chance to e-mail a lot of people, and I’m sure some people were wondering what was going on, so I thought a post just might do the trick!
In the meantime, wish me lots and lots of luck for these interviews! Being up here and spending even more time with lurker has convinced me even more that this is where I want to be more than anywhere else in the world.
