Having leftovers for lunch. My office is a wreck.
We bought plants for the Luau the other day and I get to nurture them so we won’t have to buy them again next year. We repotted the palm trees and a couple of crotons and planted in the ground 4 more crotons. They are my favorite plant and the iguanas do not eat them. So, I have been gardening today. If only it will rain now.
Got an email from Big Navy that there is a hiring freeze effective the 22nd. I am fully staffed but there are depts that are not. I think HR is doing some creative work on behalf of new hirees already in progress. I told my folks no one can leave.
Hauled a little better than a 1/8 cord of wood home in the Outback and got it stacked. Now to clean out the car. Good wood for the smoker and I got to basically pick what I wanted for $25; you don’t pass up deals like that waiting for someone to lend you their truck.
butters, I have 'mater envy!
nava, your hand smelling like noodles may be your subconscious telling you that you’re hungry for more.
Mooooom, I’m sorry about your cousin.
Emily, a former boss had a cat named Mr. Fluffy Pants. The six year old of the house named him.
I need to stop for allergy meds and to pick up the drapes from the cleaner this afternoon before heading home. Otherwise, just another day in Paradise.
Howdy Y’all! I’ve been somewhat productive. I bought provisions for da cave as well as stuff to donate. I even went to :eek:Wally*World:eek: and bought some gift cards to give to our Deacon Joy (we love Joy!) to distribute as needed. She knows the needs better than anyone I could think of that would know. She told me that gift cards such as those, from grocery stores, and gas cards are among the most appreciated items for those in need. In a while I shall head down to St. Paul’s to assist in makin’ sketties and whatever. I have some non-perishable food items to take down there cause I know they will get put to good use.
{{{MOOOOOOM}}} so sorry about your cousin. Even if you weren’t close it’s still sad to hear about a relative’s life endin’ that way.
Howdy y’all. We have settled into a 100% flu house. Daughter to the doc this afternoon.
I started Tamiflu yesterday. 'Beamer is starting to feel better now, and doesn’t quite get what why we’re lumping about. His doc excused him all week, which I’ll probably stick to, unless he drives me batty. I’m picking up his school work for him to do at home though. evil, weak, laugh
That is all.
I’ve been thinking about my cuz most of the day. It’s so strange. She was only 5 when I enlisted, and I bet I haven’t seen her in 35-40 years. I have only the vaguest of memories of a skinny little blond girl. I wonder how much of her issues were due to her age when her folks got divorced as opposed to other things in her life. The path she chose was so foreign to me - I just don’t understand. And even tho she was never really a part of my life, suddenly, there feels like a big hole just opened.
Ah well…
Moooommmmm Giant hugs to you. We never know why some choose the wrong paths. Even though you were not close it is still a loss and a waste too. It is hard to accept especially when it is so preventable. May she rest in peace.
{{{Moooomm}}}. You never know what life will deal, and your cousin good handed a bad hand…it’s sad, though, any death is a tragedy for someone. You take care.
Sunny, sounds like fun…not. Take care of yourself and stay away! (I never get a flu shot).
You’re a better man than I am, Gunga swampy.
ruble, never had a wood stove/smoker, I find other ways to mess up my car.
Butters, looks like the hiring freeze is Government-wide, we’ll see what develops…
Drae, good luck on the job market. Hope the right one falls your way.
Spent the afternoon with TurboTax and both Federal and State returns have been e-filed. Last year I had to pay mucho bucks due to selling mutual funds and moving them into an annuity, this year I’m getting $1600 back, which will pay for the bulk of the cruise I’m taking so yeah me.
Rain was in the forecast but right now the radar shows it passing by, so we’ll see.
Tried the new “Grand Mac” at Mickey D’s and “meh”. Same sandwich, just slightly bigger patties that you still can’t see in an oversized bun. Not worth a special stop, IMHO.
For a dollar more than a Beef n’ Cheddar, Arby’s will sell one a “Beef 'n Cheddar Mid”, which is a Beef 'n Cheddar that has the amount of beef that used to be on those sandwiches.
Home - not sure what/if we’ll have for supper. I’m hungry but not really. It may be a bowl-of-cereal night.
Mom, I’m sorry about how you feel, re: your cousin. I can’t honestly say I’m sorry about your cousin any more than I would be sorry about anyone else committing suicide, 'cause I didn’t know her. I hope that makes sense.
Anyway, {{{{Mom}}}}.
I knew someone in college who named her cat ‘Two Cats’ 'cause she always wanted “two cats in the yard” (life used to be so hard), but the place where she lived only allowed her to have one cat.
Black Bear Diner just opened a location within a mile of us and we’re gonna try to get in there tonight. I looked at their menu online and now I have a craving for their fish and chips. It was a real purty picture. Friends who have gotten in there are giving good reviews.
The onlyest thing I ever get at McDs is their salads. However, I do remember fondly when Arbys used to have their ‘5 for 5’ deals. i would go there for lunch and get 5 beef sammies. I could always count on folks at the office to buy the uneaten sammies from me for a dollar. I coulda got more for them, but I’m just not a capitalist, I guess.
Maybe there’s a gummint hiring freeze 'cause they’re still setting up the panels to ensure that any new hires are prepared to tow the ideological line. The ‘death panels’, (ryan, mcconnell, et.al.) are already in place and operating.
{{{Mooom}}}
As I was leaving irk today, Miss Q got a news alert on her phone about Mary Tyler Moore’s death. Ever since I’ve had her theme song stuck in my head. Only it’s not The MTM Show song, it’s the Animaniacs parody.
Who can turn the stove on with her smile?
Who can take a bubble bath and suddenly fill it with crocodiles?
'Cause it’s you, Dot, and you should know it
Put nitro on a bridge; go ahead and blow it.
Mud is all around; I guess it’s spring
Name another crooner, other than Bing
Don’t throw your hat up in the air
'Cause what might land is a Frigidaire.
Dot!
**Bumba **- I doubt that my cousin deliberately OD’d. She’d been an addict for a lot of years, and I suspect she just screwed up. But we’ll never know.
The thing that I hit MickeyD’s for is usually a cold drink. For a buck and tax, you get a large soda or tea. They’re doing that with coffee now too.
I got a pleasant surprise when I got home. There was a sheet from the apartment management saying that I had a $39 credit for this month’s rent. Yay! Evidtently, one of the fees that I paid was refundable after six months.
The drapes are picked up and all I need is a rod for the bedroom so my cow-orker can hang them.
Mia Culpa. I have the short-term memory of a goldfish. Sorry.
Howdy Y’all! Home from consortin and suppin’ with a vast hoard of Whiskypalians, a smatterin’ of Luteruns, and for all I know a few other flavors. There had to be a couple hunnert folks there, especially big crowd for a mid-week service that got put together in less than two days. The offerin’ for the night went to victim relief. Forty-one hunnert dollars was raised! WOW! I mean, OYKW and I figured out how we could be a little more generous than usual, and apparently so did a lot of other folks. Plus we et good.
Swampy good on all y’all!
Mooommm sorry to hear about your cousin. Life takes strange twists and turns sometimes.
I got home from taking 'Beamette to the doc, who put her on the flu meds, and picking up the flu meds, and getting gas, and getting some food, and came in the door and found that my [del]idiot[/del] clever doggies had discovered how to take the double stacked trash cans apart and gotten the “good” trash all over the floor. I hope that we got here before they ate too much of it, or it will be a long night. 'Beamer looked at me at one point and said, “Mom, you sure are swearing a lot.” I usually do not do this around the wee chilluns. I guess the flu has removed the brakes. I looked at him and I said, “you do it when you’re mad.” He considered that a bit, and then said, “I guess I thought grownups were supposed to know better.” :smack:
I guess I’ll have to have a talk with him. He’s my literal child. I should watch my mouth. Fluffy-duckling, sweet-cheeked, marshmallow-freckled dogs! And, me, of course. Need a new trash system. :o
Well, the rain showed up just to spite me, but it has departed the area (checks NWS radar map to be sure).
Bumba, I just looked up the menu for that Black Bear Diner and I may have to get myself to the West sometime…that looks like pretty good eatin’.
Sunny, the kid sounds like he has his head screwed on straight…even if he messes with yours…
Going to put a bunch of green stuff in a bowl along with chopping up a red thing and then I’m going to eat it. All y’all take care now.
You are a good man, Swampy.
I gave sedaka to a Muslim woman with her kid in a stroller, holding a sign that said, “For My Family”. You do it because you are a good guy, I do it out of guilt.
Jack Elam is in the episode I am watching of Richard Diamond, Private Detective.
The program has had Deforrest Kelley, Joey Bishop and the late Mary Tyler Moore.
Jack Elam is most famous for his role as side kick in Support Your Local Gunfighter, starring with James Garner and Suzanne Pleshette.
