A general thanks to folk that replied to my GQ thread...

A week or so I initiated a thread in GQ about depression and quitting dope smoking and got some replies that I haven’t had a chance to properly thank folk for.

JillGat, Hodge, Ned, Derleth, cornflakes, and last and most certainly least, Dani Filth for adding an element of humour.

The thread was closed, (my first closed thread, thanks Jill :)) and I didn’t think it’s be appropriate to post this in GQ, so voila. Thanks all.

Well I didn’t have anything to add, so I didn’t post to that thread, but I am hoping you’ll keep us up to date with your friend’s  progress.

BTW, how is the move coming? It took forever to close on my house (3 postponements - 1 near screaming hissyfit) but mine is a done deal - whew!

Best of luck to you!

Hey Lost!!! Long time no read. Super glad you managed to close your house! Mine is nowhere near selling. We had one couple come back three times and on their last trip they brought a ‘friend’ engineer who told them not to buy. Soooo… 4 months later and there’s a still a sign out front.

We are moving anyways, however. There is an animal shelter about 45mins from here that we are going to caretake. We get the house (and 60 acres) in exchange for our presence. This will allow us to renovate our current home and increase it’s likelyhood of being sold.

Friends progress:

No smoke yesterday. First time in about 15yrs. Horrible insomnia, but at least there was half decent tv till 4am. Tonight, ‘he’ will try massive amounts of chamomile tea.

Thanks for asking.

Oh, how I envy you!

That is a fantastic deal!! I found that I couldn’t get much rolling on the house until it was empty also - after that things went really fast - until time to close anyway.

Congrats on yesterday!! One day at a time - and every day is a triumph. Try Red Zinger by Celestial Seasonings - my fav. By giving yourself little “treat” rewards of nice tea, hot choc, stuff like that, might help keep your mind off it all.

Anyway, I am solidly pulling for ya - keep up the good work & I want to hear all about the new place when you get there, ok?

er… well… not really. Part of the deal is that I volonteer 3 days/month work at the shelter - which basically works out to a reasonable rent so far out in the boonies. But the killer will be travel costs back to my ‘market’ of fences and decks… if I continue to do that.

I’m sure having the house empty will promote a faster selling. This house is HUGE, well maybe only huge, but we have so much crap we make it look small.

Red Zinger’s an afternoon thing for me. Right now we’re talking double bagged chamomile.

I’ll post an update on the shelter thing when I get a chance. It’s quite the tail (excuse the pun) complete with neglected and abused animals, horribly unsanitary conditions, politics and plots and commitees. Machinations behind machinations; the likes of which I’ve only read about in Frank Herbert novels. Right now things are insanely hectic and I don’t get to post much. (Plus, being at the computer makes me want to smoke)

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention the condition of the house at the shelter.

Lets just say that instead of cleaning certain parts of the house, it was decided that gutting and replacing would probably be easier. Hence (and this is the good part) brand new kitchen and two brand new bathrooms with new appliances. Nonetheless, it still smells worse than anything I’ve ever smelled before, except for the shelter itself, which defies description.
