Bye, for now . . .

Hubby was transferred back to our hometown. We’ve only been here 8 months, having bought a lovely home, which we’ve had to sell at a loss to be able to move quickly. We’re not able to buy a home on such short notice, so we have to temporarily move into my grandmother’s house until we can buy a new one. An apartment isn’t an option, because no one will take my large dog. (I begged and pleaded. I offered a thousand dollar damage deposit, but they still wouldn’t rent to us.) Grandma doesn’t have internet access, so I won’t be able to Dope for at least a month or two.

I’m a bit depressed because we’ll be “homeless” for Christmas. Instead of wallowing in self-pity, however, I think I’ll work in a soup-kitchen on Christmas, and through one of the local churches sponsor a family for Christmas, buying their dinner & gifts. I think it will make me feel a little better, knowing that if I can’t have a great Christmas, maybe I can make some down-on-their luck family have a wonderful holiday.

We’re moving this weekend, putting all of our stuff into storage. We found a house that I fell in love with, but the owners are in the same boat we are. They have to find a home to move into before they can vacate the one we wish to buy. It really is a great house, old, with high ceilings, hardwood floors in some rooms, and large, airy rooms. However, the people living there have the most awful, horrifying taste. The carpet is pea-green shag, orange wallpaper with pink boarder. Astetically, every room is a new and excreble experiment in color. It’s comically bad, and I wouldn’t have believed that someone could have THAT bad of taste had I not seen it with my own eyes. Needless to say, I will have to re-do the entire house, including a new kitchen, but I’m actually looking forward to that part. I think it will be alot of fun. My family has all of the help I’ll need. Grandma is a professional wallpaperer/painter, my step-dad is a carpenter, and my mother is an excellent decorator. When I’m finished, the house will be gorgeous. I can see it in my mind’s eye.

So, wish me luck. I’ll stop by a few times before I leave. Everyone have a happy holiday!

Love,

Lissa

You don’t know me, but try to have a merry Christmas!

Thanks, tiggeril, I guess you’re the only one who cares. Happy holidays to you, too. ::sob::

Hey, hopefully you get the new house. I bought a house a year and a half ago and totally redid the bathroom and kitchen and remodeled the rest of it and had a blast. While you are waiting for the house to become available, you can watch HGTV and gets gobs of ideas.

I guess I don’t understand why the company your hubby works for didn’t pay the loss from selling your house. Did you ask?

I like the way you are turning a negative into a positive with the soup kitchen.

Enjoy the Holidays, and hurry back!

If you get desperate for a fix, don’t forget that lots of libraries have internet access and college towns have “internet cafes” where you can get some time in.

Oooh, an ugly old house. You can have so much fun! Old houses have great “bones”; the cosmetic stuff is all superficial. Even if you find you have to do some other stuff first, you can still picture how wonderful it will be. We have a pale orange dining room and a kitchen with 37 shades of green. And we have lived with it for 3 years (while we replaced the heating system, the roof and 34 windows-it had been somewhat neglected) because we can see the possibilities.

Good luck!

Remember, double hung windows are a way of life!

PS: Good luck with the mutt.
