I closed on my new house last week Thursday, the day before the Great Chicago Debauch. I’ve been moving in bits and pieces all week. This weekend, starting in just a few minutes, I will begin the Great Move. All the furniture & stuff is going today, and we will continue to move little stuff for the rest of the week.
I hate moving, but hey, I’m only moving about 5 blocks from where I am now, and it’s in to a house that I actually own. Cool.
I’m almost positive that I arranged for the phone to stay on at the new house, so I should be able to have the computer going tonight. But if I don’t it will only be off for a few days. You won’t even notice that I’m gone. If you ever noticed before.
Right up until the first disaster (pipe breaks, roof leaks, etc., etc., etc.)
I used to own, and now I’m renting. Having a house can be a lot of work. On the other hand you don’t have to listen to your neighbors through the floor/ceiling/walls either.
I’m torn as to whether my next address will be ownership or rent.
As usual, someone else got to the thread before me and posted what I wanted to post! (Thanks, Kricket!) Hope everything goes smoothly! Good luck and congratulations!
Many, many Congrats, Christi! We just bought our house last year. I won’t tell you what to expect from a 30yr old house. Yet. What is the age of the house you bought? New? Well-broken in with love? Either way, I’m sure you’ll be happy.
Sorry EvilBeth!
OTOH WooHoo!! I finally was first at something, and I guess I owe it all to you Cristi!
See how your new house is an advantage to everybody!
Oh, and if you need to go out and get power tools you better bulk up. My sister-in-law went to a hardware store and they wouldn’t sell her a power screw driver because of her petite size. The guy actually told her he was scared it would get away from her! Start lifting weights.
I am moved…sort of. I’m living in my new home, and I have most of the furniture here, and enough to make me comfortable, but there’s still a bunch of little crap (like my son’s crib, that we couldn’t fit through his bedroom door) that isn’t here yet. We brought the crib mattress, though, and propped up some pillows around it, and that’s working just fine. But seeing as how my son is only eight months old, he couldn’t care less where he sleeps.
No, I have not done a house blessing. Not yet. But I am definitely going to, as soon as I get my damn candles and books over here!
I didn’t mind renting, really, especially from the landlord I had. He is a wonderful guy, and he saw me through a lot. In the eight years I’ve been renting from him, he’s seen me go from a nearly brain-dead young single woman working for minimum wage at a donut shop to a respectable married lady with two children and a really good job. Well, okay. Not respectable. But the rest of the stuff is true.
I’ve also decided to start a “home repair” fund. Right now, nothing needs to be fixed, but I know that in the future, something will break, and it’ll be my problem. So I’m just going to sock away a little money for emergencies, just in case.
Thanks again, and everyone please send good vibes to my house in the hopes that my central air doesn’t give out this summer…
