You need a doctor, dude. I don’t know if it’s an optometrist you require (for extreme myopia), an ER doc (to help you get off this acid trip) or a psychiatrist (as you’re obviously delusional), but you NEED A DOCTOR. Kate is among the greatest beauties of our time. She should be kept by law away from naval shipyards, as her face is the sort that launches a thousand ships.
I did, right up until the first time I saw the swimsuit scene in High Society. Bones on a stick. Yuck.
And as for the OP: Kate Winslet is one of the most stunningly beautiful women of all time. The whole package: face, body, voice, brain (as best one can tell from this distance). So yes, A Great Beauty.
Paris Hilton…pretty…Those words don’t go together. The best you can say about Paris is that she’s not ugly.
And I know this is not about guys, but a few years ago, when Hugh Jackman was in his first wave of X-Men 1 fame, I described him as “beautiful. Not the way a woman is beautiful, but the way the Pathetique is beautiful, or Stonehenge at sunset. Not only flawless, but intriguing.” Similarly, I was reading a thread about Lost elsewhere on the net, and someone said, “I don’t understand all the Sayid love. I don’t see what’s so hot about him.” I sat stunned, and finally decided not to even try to reply. Naveen Andrews is another of those beautiful-but-not-in-a-feminine-way men, but I honestly can’t explain how or why. I can’t say, “Well, his nose is like this and his shoulders are like that…” There’s just something that draws the eye; something more than the sum of the parts.
Kate Winslet would fall into my “great beauty” category. Grace Kelly looks too generic to me to qualify as “beauty”. For me to really find someone attractive they have to have something distinctive about the way they look.
The most beautiful woman currently on screen anywhere in the world is French newsreader Melissa Theuriau . If anyone dares disagree, it’s pistols at dawn .
I was thinking this over last night and realized why I can’t consider Kate Winslett as one of the great beauties. She’s too young.
Let me explain, for me to move someone (in my mind anyway) from the beautiful into the great beauty catergory they need to have also aged well or been recognizable as a great beauty for many years. That is why women like Sophia Loren, Catherine Denueve and Isabella Rosselini make that list for me and women like Kate Winslett and Tyra Banks who are unquestionably beautiful women do not.
I’m reminded of something I heard once, though I forget where. When you are beautiful young, it is expected and is an accident of nature. When you are beautiful older that you have created yourself, that is beauty you have earned.
I understand your point, but i’m not sure anyone really “earns” beauty. That said,I’ve known who kate winslet was for about ten years now, since Heavenly Creatures, and thought she was heart-thumpingly gorgeous all that time.
I just followed your link, and Ms. Theuriau, though very pretty, isn’t even as lovely as Campbell Brown, much less Kate Winslet. Draw your pistol, and I’ll see you at sunrise.
Of course I’ll be accompanied by my usual horde of flying fire-spitting howler monkeys, but y’all knew that.
