A guessing game: What does Skald the Rhymer do for a living?

Do you work in an educational institution (as in, a school, university or college)?

Do you wear a uniform or other Special attire for your job?

No, dear one. By the way, hijacking my own thread, did you get married yet?

No.

Do you work for a company that produces periodical publications?

/grin.

Not yet. Date is set for January 16th! Then after that, we’ll both be doing a show on a cruise ship for four months. How sad, a 4-month honeymoon.

Thanks for asking! It’s been awhile. How are you?

…Oh, right, back to the thread.

Do you work primarily behind a desk? (Since this was never specified).

Yes, I work primarily behind a desk.

So far as I know my company does not produce such publications (not counting things like company newsletters). Certainly my job involves no such activity.

are you a translator / interpreter?

In a sense.

Do you translate/interpret into ASL for the deaf?

Do you work for Language Line or a similar company?

Or for my followup, do you coordinate TTY style communication?

I must say to the OP, Skaid the Rhymer: This is fun!
I’ve wasted a whole workday trying to figure out what you do. Good thing that my boss loves me.

I’m going to throw out a left-field question: Do you work in the legal profession in some capacity?

You and SternVogel got it!

Woohoo! Go us! Do I get a pony?

No, dear, no pony. 17 gold ingots for you, though, which I will teleport to you as soon as you get your teleport unit online.

Cabin_Fever, I’m glad you enjoyed it.

As for the rest of you…who wants to go next?

What the deuce does that mean?

Relay service so people can place phone calls to deaf people, (or the other way around) right?

Hey! I was sorta right! I guessed translator from all the odd words he was using. I guess I don’t get a pony but could I have a goat, please? (Um, an UNfelched one, thanks! )

Right.

Actually I should say that there’s at least 2 methods of doing so: TTY, as was guessed above, involving a typewriter-like device attached to a phone line; and also IP relay (which can be used either on computers or wireless devices like Sidekicks) which obviously uses the internet. With the former, the disabled person can either initiate or receive the call; with the latter, the disabled person can only initiate. Also I should say that Relay service is used by speech-disabled persons as well has hearing-disabled/impaired. I thought about starting an ‘Ask the’ thread about it, but I didn’t think anybody would care enough.
