Why is he gonna be on a broth diet for a month?
All this talk about Mennonite cake is reminding me that soon I will have to buy my yearly Moravian Sugar Cake for Detailed AGM. Mama Bear won’t be getting one since she left us to be GM at another property, but Betty (the assistant exec housekeeper) has expressed interest. And Culinary Boy has never had one.
Boy I hope the Moravians have their kiosk at the mall again. I can only afford one trip to Winston-Salem this year.
Back from TJ’s. I have my Tofurky and gravy and I also bought sweet potato pie bites, a brie en croute (because you never know when you’re going to need one!) and vacuum fried pineapple chips. These are crunchy pieces of pineapple, which are delicious.
The shopping center was a madhouse. No more Target or TJ’s until after the new year.
I’m grateful to rosie for reminding me to post what I’m grateful for.
I’m grateful for having a job during this economic downturn.
I’m grateful for this big, fuzzy bathrobe that’s keeping me warm.
Most of all, I’m grateful for those who make things better just by being there. That means YOU my fellow mummpers!
Well today was my last day at the office until after the holiday. Funny, I was the only member of my team there today. Did I miss a memo?
Bri2k
The good news is that I do have insurance. I still can’t print my card; not for another 1-3 days but the dermatologist’s office is satisfied that they can bill before the end of the month.
I have made the difficult (hah!) decision that I am NOT going to class tonight. I’m wicked tired and I’m worried about my mom. My step-sister’s husband is at my mom’s house to help my step-dad install a shower surround. My mom is very grateful but she’s turning into a panicky mess because of it. She gets very nervous with guests (other than me) because the state of her house is not good. She knows that I don’t think badly of her for it but she worries about how other people think of her. She has called me over 10 times since yesterday afternoon and last time she left a message, it sounded like she was crying. I’m guessing that I’ll be stopping by there in an hour or so to help her relax.
For now, I’ll just sit here and wait for her to call me back.
I really wish someone would cure all mental illness. I also wish someone would invent contacts for .5 or lower astigmatism.
Pies are bakin’ and collards are simmerin’ away. Smells good in da cave!
<snerk>!!!
Boy, I’m good! I made 2 punkin pies, and while they were in the oven, I threw together supper, we ate it, and afterwards, I built a peach streusel pie with 30 seconds to spare! The punkin pies are out and cooling and the peach pie will be done in about 15 minutes. Meanwhile, I got the dishes done. Go me!
**
FCD **got his xrays done and we’ve got an appointment at his surgeon’s Good Samaritan Hospital office at 10:30. We’ll probably leave early enough to have breakfast enroute and still get there early. Then afterwards, we’ll go to the clay supply store so I can get some stuff.
Speaking of clay stuff, idiot Taz broke the nose off my snowman, so I guess that’s shot. No biggie - it wasn’t all that great anyway. And I’ve decided how to deal with the penguin with the broken flipper - I’ve asked **FCD **to make a teeny tiny crutch to fit under its flipper. Tiny Tim Penguin!
Tonight is definitely a melatonin night. I need to sleep since we have a *looooooong *drive tomorrow. So I guess I’ll knit till I can’t keep my eyes open. And I probably won’t be back here tomorrow till later in the afternoon.
Oh yeah, one more thing. I got an email from a former coworker - they’ve cancelled the RIF for 6 months, which tells me someone figured out that cutting our workforce was STOOPIT!! Which also means I probably could have stayed on and not cost anyone in my group their job. But I think I’m still OK with being retired, altho I’d have preferred to wait till the end of the year. Nothing I can do about it now. But it was a surprising bit of news.
I have just figured out that there are no deviled aigs on the menu for turkey day! This must be rectified. How can one have turkey day without deviled aigs! The Horror! The. Sheer. Horror.
Aigs are boilin’. Crisis averted. Turkey Day is saved.
pokes head in waves
Did y’all miss me? It’s been a crappy month all around, Cable shut off & car accident (no one hurt) so I’ve had a lot on my plate. Speaking of plates, we’re going out on Thursday and cooking Friday.
Turkey
Stuffing
Mashed N.O.T.
grean Bean casserole
Cranberried fruit salad
Biscuits
yams
sweet potato cassarole (yes, these are 2 different things)
Deviled eggs
& three kinds of ready made pie.
Missed you guys. I will try not to be so scarce!
HUGS ALL AROUND
(PS I am thankful for all my loved ones this year, including da mumpers!)
{{{Pearl}}} of course we missed ya! Glad nobody was hurt in the accident. Hope stuff settles down soon for ya.
Pies are done and coolin’. Tomorrow evenin’ when OYKW is spendin’ the night I shall have to deploy the spatula o’ doom to keep him out of 'em.
Oh and we did cut the Mennonite Lady Pound Cake. [sup]TM[/sup] NUMMY!!!
AMMAAAAZZOOOOOOON!!! Excuse me while I alternately shake my fist and thump my head… Oookay. Amazon has sent me another tea kettle. If anybody’s keeping track, that’s three nasty ugly green colored tea kettles when I didn’t even want to keep the first one.
Ah well. The water heater’s in and my mom and sister are doing fine. That means a qualified thankfulness. The Thankfulness Troll had better watch it, or I’ll take it back.
And you know how Thankfulness Trolls need thankfulness, what with living under bridges and in swamps. It’s the only way they manage not to get the blues, and there’s nothing worse than a Troll on sax.
Mr Jackal just started with Amazon last month. Would it help you to know that things can go even more spectacularly wrong there than you could possibly know? No? Ok then never mind.
I picked up a cheap Le Cruset teapot a couple months ago. Really pretty blue color. I’ve never been able to find it online. Maybe they messed up the color and that’s why it was only $20.
Worked, knocked off early(13 hour day). Up at 0500 tomorrow, then hockey and tailgate. 40 hours till Thanksgiving dinner with my “just friend”
swampy, no deviled aigs? : swoons from the vapors :
gotti, hope DH survives the broth.
All the crazy people are out today. I had three near collisions while running errands today, all because people were driving 30 mph + in parking lots. I’d clear traffic, start to back up, and vrooom, some idiot zooms past me. Or I’d have my blinker on for a spot, start to turn in for it, and a truck - previously 40 yards away - just has to get past me before I can pull in.
Jesus, people, it’s Target, not Mad Max!
Fight my ignorance. N.O.T equals potatoes, I guess. But what does it mean?
It means Not Our Taters. Taters is a mumper so it means we ate taters but not OUR Taters because that would be perverse.
and illegal in many states
But not all?
Up, caffeinated, off to irk. 14 hours, 15 minutes till puck drop. 21 hours, 10 minutes till Thanksgiving dinner with “just friend” ;). Not that I’m countin’ or nothing.
