She started dating this guy shortly after she gave her ex the heave-ho. At the time, we voiced our concerns, and several times since then, we’ve asked fairly pointed questions about him and his ambitions or lack thereof.
And let me say, I don’t dislike him as a person. He’s polite, he treats her well, and I think he’s a decent human being overall. But I can’t get over the feeling that he has no direction in life. He’s only ever had menial jobs and I think he’s got a motivational defiency. But he does cook fairly well, so that’s a plus. And if she’s OK with supporting him, it’s her call. I have nothing against stay-at-home-dads - maybe that’s what they have in mind.
At least he doesn’t seem to be as flaky as her ex. So there’s that.
Well, lunch is way over - time to get back to work…
Very grumpy at work because people are stoopid. I had a grilled cheese with mater and bacon, chips, and a cookie for lunch. I’ve locked my door and put out the “closed” sign. That will prevent the sloth workers from surfing teh intertubz instead of irking.
Thursday’s almost over, so it’s weekend time. Daughter #3 is going away tomorrow for Shabbat, so it will be just the Mrs. and me until Saturday night. It will be nice having some quiet time, and we don’t have anything exciting planned.
I got Nathan home and thought he was going to be okay, but he’s not. He came up to me when I got home after work, and I got his soft special food out, but he won’t eat. He’s just sitting there. I sat down on the floor beside the couch, where I have some blankets so he has a little “nest” and he wouldn’t come over. He’s still just sitting there. I called his name and he didn’t even look over at me.
I stroked his back last night, gently, and when I got down near his tail he yelped. I’m calling the vet tomorrow morning and will ask what I should do. If he needs that surgery I’ve changed my mind and may take out a small loan to be able to manage it. This is the best dog ever and I’ll do anything for him.
Happy Thor’s Day all! It’s a Very Blustery Day, but the clouds are sailing and providing me glimpses of blue sky and even some sunshine. I know that I am the first person to defend the weather here, but last night the weatherguy pointed out amongst his statistics that we have had 5 sunny days since the 1st of the year and we are closing in on breaking the rainfall record, which was broken only 3 years ago. Looking out the window I see that the first two daffodils have bloomed, so I declare it spring!
Is anyone else participating in the (your town/city) Rocks? It began as a way to get kids outside I guess, but it has morphed and I think more adults are enjoying it right now, lol! Basically you paint some rocks and “hide” them around town, and whoever finds it may re-hide it or keep it, and they take a photo and post it to the fb group. I am having fun painting rocks, I need to get some sealer and then I am going to hide a bunch of spring/Easter themed rocks. If you are interested and are on fb search groups for (your town/city) rocks, or just paint some rocks for your garden or a potted plant, I am painting some to keep in my garden. Anyway, it’s keeping me off the streets for the time being, lol!
Oh! Baker! On the off chance that it interests you, your Nathan is what is known in the dog world as a black and tan w/dapple marking, the dapple is where the blue eye comes from as well. He may have some diminished sight in the blue marked eye, but maybe not. He sounds like a beautiful little dog! I hope he continues to improve. I just bought a ramp for my Pomeranian, she has stairs but at 11 she has some arthritis and the stairs were being difficult for her. If he has trouble with the stairs you might want to consider a ramp. If you do I can reccomend a good one; it’s the second that I’ve bought, only because I left the other in Kodiak when I moved down here.
I just saw your latest post Baker, I am sorry the little man is hurting. I am hoping for the best for the two of you, I have spent a lot of money on my Poms with the vet, so I understand. Do you have any pain meds for him, like Rimadyl? Can you call the vet and ask about a safe aspirin dose without incurring an after hours charge? I’m sending the two of you good rest tonight blessings.
I was worried enough that I called the office and the vet gave me some anti-inflammatory meds for him. After a couple days I’m supposed to let them know if he seems to be feeling better. The pills are called Carprofen.
Cupcakes maybe start a general thread with dachshund and back in the title? I know I’ve read some pet threads on the board about similar issues, so I think there might be some collected wisdom out there to share with you. I think that sometimes the issues resolve without surgery, but start the thread and see what others say.
There are stronger meds than rimadyl. Don’t be afraid to ask. Surgery is a big step. No reason he can’t be more comfortable while you figure it out. {{{Hugs}}}
nettie, that weather guy cracked me up with his composure.

Spent a couple of hours with the noob today. He’s asking some interesting and intelligent questions. I see it as a good sign.
Got the counters wiped down and bathroom cleaned. There was breakfast for supper. Saturday I’ll be participating in a heathen mini-con in Nashville. I’m doing the vegan main dish and two vegan sides (the rest of the menu will involve animal products, but we do want something there for the vegans among us). I’ll also staff the sign in / information desk for an hour. The rest of the conference will be workshops, music, speakers and such. This is our second year for it and it was wildly successful last year.
So I never made it to work, my truck broke down. 8 hours and $700 later, I have a new water pump. But I’m broke and I have to work a double tomorrow, so no St. Patrick’s Day shenanagins tomorrow.
{{{{Cupcakes and Nathan}}}} And I know. Maggie Woderbeagle’s vet bill were more than my season tickets.
Both! But just don’t order it in an Irish pub tomorrow.
