When I was working in Jacksonville, there used to be a Navy Exchange snack bar near the office and they made a burger that I just loved. Ordinary boring white bun and beef patty, but add swiss cheese, grilled onions and mushrooms, and a dollop of sour cream. OMG, it was WONDERFUL!!! I’ve been thinking of asking Red Robin to add it to their menu.
Daughter got power back about 10 last night. Turns out she’d gotten the wrong story. It wasn’t caused by a wanna-be lumberjack. A transformer blew. And since it only affected the houses on a few streets, it was pretty low on the list of priorities. But they’re good now, except for having to replace whatever food they lost.
Meanwhile, I’m in the office wearing the glasses that hurt my nose because I broke the nose pad on my preferred pair. Gonna be a long day. But it all pays the same. Happy Moanday!
Farm Burger has a chicken burger with weird hippy ingredients. It is amazingly amazing.
I graduated (twice) from Pirateville University, so I talk like a pirate every day.
Today I plan to make all the cats hate me by giving them hairball gel (done), pee in a cup (later) and work on a couple of stories (when I get back from the urgent care).
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN 'Tis 64 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 91 and mostly N.O.S. for the day. Plans today are to spiff da cave and tonight is men’s night over to the church house.
I prefer to make my own burgers. I just think they’re better than anything I can get in a restaurant. I like bacon cheeseburgers with a little ketchup and a lot of mustard. Don’t care for mayo, pickles, 'mater, or lettuce on a burger. Also fries are the perfect side. Chips will do, however.
This week will include laundry and grocery shoppin’ for sure as well as many other chores/errands that will no doubt arise. Woo and Hoo.
Now I need more caffeine and rumbly tummy demands sustenance. Then I suppose I should clean up a bit and get started on cave defilthyfycation.
Foggy Moanday, with rain coming (tropical storm-soon-to-be-n’oreaster-Jose’) for the next two days. Was awakened to a cat going “hork hork HORK gaaaak” this morning. I get my quarterly dose of migraine Botox on Wednesday. Survived the workplace quarterly planning last week and didn’t go mental, despite one coworker texting to ask if we “still” had planning. I don’t know why she thought that something the entire company was involved in would suddenly be cancelled. Something that we’ve had like clockwork for the entire time she was there, and never cancelled.
So anyway.
Burgers! OMG, I haven’t had a really good burger in ages. Preferred burger:
[ul]
[li]Slightly-more-done-than-rare meat, but not quite medium-rare. Though medium rare is fine. And FFS, drain the burger when done. [/li]
[li]Sauteed mushrooms seasoned with salt and fresh-ground pepper, with melted Swiss cheese over. [/li]
[li]A-1 steak sauce and catsup. [/li]
[li]If there’s a hunk of ice-cold iceberg lettuce, that’s yummy. Otherwise, no veggies. If I wanted lettuce and tomato, I’d have ordered a salad. [/li]
[li]A not-huge bun. Those giant artisnal buns that are in vogue now? I can’t fit them into my mouth. But also not the squishy white bread buns that fall apart.[/li][/ul]
If the fries suck, I’m not going to bother with them, but fry preferences are another MMP!
Great. Now I want a burger. We can add that to things I want because last night, tacos came into my mind. Mmmm, tacos.
I only managed to defilthyfy the upstairs of my cave. The downstairs still needs to be hoovered.
Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off today. I shall clean the bathroom and do a load of laundry. And it’s (preseason away) hockey tonight!:D[sup]11[/sup]
I like going to Char-Grill. Lettuce, tomato, pickles, onion, mustard on my cheeseburger, please.
Spidey, I look forward to ITLAP Day. Found out pillaging the ABC Sto for rum is apparently frowned upon by the authorities, though.
SurlyRabbit, I keep the place defithified, in spite of having a roommate who is the unholy love child of Pigpen and Marjory The Trash Heap.
SSR: “That’s my secret, Spidey; it’s always Cheeseburger Day.”
Although I don’t have it on the menu for today, may have to get one now. Mine are dressed with lettuce, tomato, pickles and mayo only. 5 Guys does them that way with fries that are nearly an addictive substance.
No rain in the forecast before Wednesday, so may have to get out and mow the lawn, or defer until 2Day. Other than that, coaching soccer is my major activity for the week (every day of the week).
I’m a big fan of Steak 'N Shakes double cheeseburger with pickle, mustard, and ketchup. I would love grilled onions but they don’t do those. Unfortunately I can only eat a little bit of fries because I get heartburn. But chips are a fine side. There is a local burger joint called Burger Local (catchy name!). I can’t remember what burger I got but it was the best ever. Their meat is locally sourced (like down the road). Truly excellent. I’m sure it had a combination of cheese (perhaps Brie) and sauteed onions. YUM.
I like my cheeseburger with let, tom, onion, ketchup and mayo. There is a golf course restaurant close by called Mulligans. I think I shall walk over today and have a cheeseburger.
Cannot think of cheeseburgers yet…ugh…The lil’wrekker got on the road back to school earlier this morning…I can’t believe it’s already half semester exams already…She’s ready and studied up…math is her only concern!! Mr. Wrecker has many projects planned this week…I am staying away from him, lest he tries to involve me! My volunteer work is on back burner…So I have an easy week ahead…YAY!!
I like burgers with sauteed (caramelized) onions, cheese (all types except bleu), bacon, lettuce, tomato, bread and butter pickles, a touch of mayo, a touch of ketchup, and sometimes a touch of mustard. Meat has to be pink in the middle. I like brioche buns.
I prefer onions rings to fries, but the batter on the onion rings has to be the tempura type. I hate that crumbly batter. It always tastes weird to me. However, if there aren’t decent onion rings, I’ll settle for fries. Best fries are double fried so they’re crispy on the outside, but nice and fluffy soft in the middle.
Blessed, blessed rain started falling yesterday. The air quality due to all the wildfires out here has been awful; to the point that we had ash falling and everything smelled like a big-assed campfire. The snow level actually dropped down 4,500 feet overnight, but it’s going back up to about the 5,500 foot level. Welcome fall! We’ve gone months without any rain and I’m sick of the heat and fire danger.
I did my drug test, gassed up and *washed *Polly Subaru (the car wash has been closed for [DEL]price hikes[/DEL] renovations), turned in a library book, and took a walk. Now it’s time to write.
I only eat veggie burgers snooty sniff, or better yet, just give me all the cheese.
First proper day of classes today, which were pretty interesting. Gonna take me a little while to get used to the whole thing, but it was a nice start.
What was less nice was getting home, going to double check how much was in my bank account after my rent had gone out today, only to discover that no, there was the rent money still sitting in my account, and there was no record of there being a standing order at all.
They actually set it up for me in branch, because it was before I got internet connected at the house, using the ready-filled out form they gave me at the rental agency, so it definitely wasn’t my screw up. I’ve just had to call the landlord, apologise, get the details off him again, send a lot lot of money into the aether out of my account and I’m now keeping my fingers crossed that it winds up in his.
Now I’m going to be all worried that I’ve misheard his account number over the phone and sent my rent payment to some totally random account. Stoopit bank. I can’t even make it into the branch to go ‘What the hell?!’ at them until Friday, by which point I’ll be more bothered about the car getting its MOT that day.
Home at last. Got one pair of specs fixed and the other pair adjusted. And I got another little bottle of lens cleaner. Yay!
Nice surprise in the mail - a check from FCD’s retirement fund from when he was at NASA. We keep forgetting about it - for some reason, they wouldn’t cash it all out at once, so for the last 3 or 4 years, we’ve been getting money from them. At first, it went right into his annuity, but this is the first time we got an actual check. So it’ll go into the bank and we’ll forget about that fund till this time next year. And that’s on top of a refund from his orthopedist’s office for an overpayment of a copay - a whopping $28 from Aug 2016!
Car goes in for service tomorrow - actually Weds, but we’re dropping it off tomorrow evening. That’s the extent of today’s excitement. rah.
It’s raining down here too. Had a serious thunderboomer going on when I got up this morning. The air smells so much cleaner!
The only bad thing is, I’m having to wear long pants, and shoes and socks, for the first time in over 4 months. Good thing I cut my toenails the other day. :o
I told Wifey today was national cheeseburger day. She said “nein”.
We had chili verde empanadas for lunch. She wanted fish tacos from the Mexican taco truck down by the pawn shop, but they were closed.
When we make burgers at home I usually just have a little mayo on the bun and a thin slice of onion and a slice of cheddar. If we have any fresh-from-the-garden tomatoes, I’ll have a slice, and maybe some crispy lettuce. I don’t like mustard or catsup on my burgers, which we both eat medium rare. Sometimes we’ll make chicken burgers with cilantro-lime sauce though, then all bets are off. Then I like mild green chilis on mine.
We have a really good ice cream parlor/burger joint in town, Jem 100. They make the best burgers anywhere around here. But when i get one of their burgers I still go basic: meat, cheese, maybe a little mayo. The ‘tomatoes’ burger joints have on offer are almost universally tasteless and slippery and leak all over your hands. I doesn’t like 'em.
And I only eat mustard on sausages, and catsup only goes on fries.
And steak sauce is an abomination onto the lord.
Yes. I’m weird.
Somebody somewhere, possibly here, mentioned Humbolt Fog bleu cheese recently, and I ran across some at my local Kroger store and bought a little piece. Wifey opened it last night to put some on our salads. Let me tell you; if you don’t like bleu cheese, this stuff will probably convert you. If you do like blue cheese, this stuff will make you throw out all that [del]nasty crap[/del] other bleu you’ve been buying. Be warned; it’s expensive, but worth it.
