A Lake Effect MMP

Aw, poor baby. I’m sorry your job sucks so bad when it snows. Just remember, you’re keeping the kiddoes safe!

Love the shoes - in red - Haze! I’d take 'em in black, too. Too bad I can’t wear much of a heel.

We’re getting a cold front in and it’s thundering and lightning. Soothing sounds to me, actually. I’m getting sleepy just listening to it.

See y’all manana…

ETA: First on three! :: happy dance::

Huh. It’s snowing. I didn’t even realize.

mmouse, good point about the versatility. Hm. Maybe I’ll order both and return a pair afterwards.

Home and hurting agqin. I’m going to have to sack my assistant manager.

Haze, that dress is hawt!

Glad the Vunderlair isn’t singed, BBBobbio.

Get better all you sickies!

I started this sweater last night, got a couple of inches in and realized today that it will never look good on me. Hey, an extra 15 pounds! Just what I need! At least I didn’t keep up the knitterly denial until it was finished.

Work was chaotic, because my manager was out sick (she creates much more chaos when she’s out than when she’s in.) It will be a challenge to pull it all off, but I’ll manage. She’s on vacation all next week, and she actually takes vacation, so it should be calmer next week.

Shadow, that sweater is all sorts of lovely though!

My goodness! It’s not quite midnight yet, and we’re already on page three! Geeze, I’m sorry I skimmed over a lot of the posts. Great OP Soapy, I don’t know much about New York, but living right next to Lake Michigan I can say lake effect snow can suck at times.

We had a snow day today! I took the opportunity to get the girls in the kitchen and we made their Valentine’s Day cards. Nikki tired of it after about eight, and I helped her finish. I think if there is another project like this in the future, I should pre-make some finishing things to make it easier. We did have a lot of fun though.
Last night Brandy and I made avocado ice cream for her report on Mexico. They had to have an authentic Mexican recipe. I don’t have ready access to much of the ingredients, (not wanting to drive to Elkhart or the southwest side of South Bend) so that looked easily enough. I’ve never worked with avocados. Slimy things they are, and they don’t have much of a taste either. But we have something that resembles ice cream, it’s green, and somewhat sweet.

Tonight I made my very first apple crisp. It was divine. Yum!

It is a lovely sweater, isn’t it? But it’s in bulky yarn and hence, bulky, even if it is lace. Here are some of the projects I’m contemplating for “next.” Comments, yay and nay, welcome.

Madeline
Marta
Wool Peddler’s Shawl
Juno Regina
Spirit of the Southwest
Knitted Ruana

Shadow, I am in love with Madeline. The Wool Peddler’s Shawl and Spirit of the Southwest tie for second, but Madeline takes the skein and runs away with it.

Wow, page 3 already! And now it’s Tuesday to boot.

Very nice OP, Soapy. I’ve never been to Buffalo, that I recall that is, although my family did visit Niagara Falls when I was around 7 or so. That’s when we lived in western Michigan, so I know all about lake effect snow. It does sound like a great place to visit, especially to have a beef on weck!

BBBobbio, I was reading about those fires on pilotonline today, and wondering about you. Whew, glad to hear that the Vonderlair is okay. Sorry to hear about Freya’s jealousy (and it’s aftereffects!).

I started to read the posts earlier Monday night, after I got home from work, but was really wiped. After I got off of work, my daughter and I went to the local post office to mail off my SDMB valentines and we were there until after 5 PM (there was a -long- line in the PO!). They are all in the mail, though some may not reach their destinations before Valentine’s day, unfortunately. Mea culpa!

One day closer to Firday … and a long weekend!! Unfortunately, it’s the last long (holiday) weekend until the end of May!

Howdy all. I am still all kinds of lazy and Don Wanna today!

Haze, I like the shoes but red patent leather says lots of things that you may not mean!!! Me, I’m trying to figure out some way to justify buying these! Ooohhhhh, purty!!! Ouch, expensive! Sigh, maybe after I start my new job in, oh, 2 more months! Double sigh …

**Haze **-- nice shoes, wanna … ? nevermind
Oh and…

this, I initially read as FCM shoes…  :dubious: :stuck_out_tongue:
**Doggy **-- we’re talking about shoes, now; not dresses. Presumably the dress is… no longer relevant.

Rap – of course you’re not 100%; you’re only 99.44%! :stuck_out_tongue:
Oh, and Vodka tonic with a twist sounds nice… and I know you’d never encourage a married man, perish the thought! At least not before you’ve had a drink or two… fill 'er up?

I’m blind! Can’t find the MMP! Ah, there it is, phew

Haze, didn’t you mention somewhere that your brother is a US citizen? Can he sponsor you?

gt, good on you guys for not letting yourselves be railroaded (is that the right term? haven’t had breakfast yet)

The Lent resolution is painful. I can’t really do much work-wise until K (the person I’m replacing) leaves. At least the boss is supposed to come in today, which means I may finally get introduced to the client, which K doesn’t want to do on grounds that “it’s his job”. First, I love that attitude (not); second, I’m reasonably sure that she just doesn’t want to tell the client she’s leaving. It’s so much easier to just up and disappear! Yesterday I poked around in the system for several hours, finding out what things had been set up and how; there were several things that can be done in much simpler ways but I’m not explaining it to K. I asked her whether she had any kind of documentation on some incomplete items I found: she treated me with the same kind of fluff she delivers to the client, finally said it’s incomplete because it’s not defined yet (argh?) and then told me to spend my time poking around in the system to see how she’s set things up. OK, I realize you’re not a very good listener… but how do you think I found the incomplete stuff, from the grafitti in the bathroom? :smack:

I’m trying to decide if I should buy a new laptop. There is an offer in one of the big chains here that looks real pretty: 800€, 4G ram, good vidcard, large HD… either whomever wrote the price had been smoking something funny, or I’m not seeing the catch. Similar systems with only 1G ram (who the heck wants 1G ram? my old laptop has 2!) go for about 1400€. The 2yo laptop has been giving signs of age, it’s not like I don’t use it; I’d like to have a “work” laptop and a “me” laptop but the thing is, for the current job I don’t need a laptop. And by the time the next project rolls by, these prices could be normal or even high. My logic says “don’t”, my fingers say “waaaaannaaaaaa…”

Blech. It’s almost 4 a.m., I’m awake and I feel like puking. (Green like puking smiley)

{{{Cutie}}} :frowning:

I can talk – here or privately – if you need an ear.

Thanks. Nothing much to say, though.

MamaT, in case you hadn’t noticed, someone in GQ wants advice about whether the Furminator works!

ETA: Before I potentially embarrass myself publicly in GQ, can anyone here tell me why men’s and women’s shirts button differently, i.e. why are women’s shirt button on the left side, and men’s on the right?

Nice shoes, Haze, but I’d only wear them in black and without the strap. But what do I know? These were the last boots I bought online!

Nothing much to report from here, busy day again and lots of work coming in for our next programme approval panel meeting next month. Up to my eyes in bits of paper as usual, and TK is being her usual idiot self. Job interview tomorrow though, so maybe this time I’ll be lucky.

Hugs, yays, boos and appendage crossing all round - just take what you need/want!

Great OP Soapy! Interesting, especially for this west coaster. I have been as far east as Mentor-On-The-Lake Ohio, but then I turned around and came home.

You’re not alone with the Raynaud’s, it’s one of my “issues” too. Sending you warming thoughts. On preview, warm thoughts to you too, rosie.

Heh, picu, I so totally understand what you mean about Seattle and snow! I missed the road trip plans, where ya goin?

Haze the dress is beautiful, and so are you in it, it’s such a beautiful color. I love to see indigenous dress, the Alutiq regalia is so pretty, and I have plans to make a set for the two younger kids. I should begin on my daughter’s as she has stopped growing, but my son’s will have to wait as if he sits still enough you can almost watch him get taller by the minute!

That was some story VBob, good on you overall, but especially for your Good Samaritanism with regard to the couple who just wanted momentos of their late daughter. As for the bologna with French’s on white, when I worked the Exxon oil spill cleanup I remember ingesting similar food and finding it, at the time, divine. I’m also glad that your home was safe from fire, you have my empathy with regard to the dog poo.

Mmmmmmmm…Toffifay!

taxi I have a friend here who’s from upstate New York, he’s funny to listen to when he “talks Noo Yawk’ish”, but it sounds like a pretty place. I am working my way through your photos, I am stuck looking at all the flowers at the butterfly place, so much nicer than the snow outside my windows. I’ve been keeping you in my thoughts, seems like every time I cruise through here of late you seem to be having less than a wonderful time at work.

Haze those shoes are teh yum! Since I got all gimpy I have had to give up heels. :frowning: And I used to be such a shoe whore. Those shoes in silver would have been perfect with the silvery dress I wore for my friend’s 25th anniversary party…sigh

Shadow I really like the Wool Peddler’s Shawl, the Spirit of the Southwest and the ruana, and I envy your knitting speed and knowledge of different patterns. Once upon a time I did a bit of knitting, even figured out how to knit Fair Isle patterns, and then I had kids. Now it’s carpal tunnel and arthritis. I enjoy the projects that you share.

What the heck is a “beef on weck”? Hi herbs!

Oooh Dotty! Sexy boots!

Now that I have worked through the MMP it’s such a long post I almost don’t want to add anymore! I am still sick, but not dying-sick. Now I am just coughing, but it’s the coughing-spasm-until-I-choke kind of cough. If I wake up with it still hanging around in the morning I am gonna call my p.a. and see if I can talk her into a script for robitussin ac without having to come in the office. If I have to go to the office in two more weeks I’ll be sick again, and that would make me very cranky.

The blizzard wasn’t too stormy, there was one death, other than that the wind blew the snow around so that in some places it’s ankle deep and in others it’s in three foot drifts. Two more months of winter, only two more months of winter…

Hi everyone else!

I’m gonna shut up now and take my meds and so to bed, hopefully to sleep. Stupid cold, grumble grumble…

I’ll bet kaiwik is probably asleep right now, but the beef on weck is a roast beef sandwich on a “weck” which is a roll that (apparently) you only find in Buffalo–I’ve only seen pictures of it, mind you, so am not sure exactly what the distinction is, but it’s a Buffalo tradition. It looks like a big hard roll.

Up and caffeinating; not feeling that great this morning. Hence I’m running a bit late. I’m also looking for an e-cards site that doesn’t require registration and payment -or- try to pass on malware! GAH! I’ve used Hallmark.com for years; I registered years ago, but don’t pay - I don’t -think- they try to pass on malware, but I could be wrong about that. Anyone know for sure? Thanks in advance!

And I’m hoping that someone from Buffalo or environs will explain further what the weck roll is.

Up, caffeinated, and off to work.

Up. Should be ready for work already. Don’t wanna. There’s snow out. Happy Tuesday!
