A little bit of info about me...

Due to the fact I have been flamed several times over the last few days over spelling/typo type errors I would like to get somethings clear with everyone.

First off, no I don’t have a learning disorder. I don’t care enough to read over my posts on this board because I never really thought that stuff mattered to the other posters, but it seams it does, so fine. Due to this great need everyone has to grill me on trival things and ignore the my OP I just won’t give them anything to use as ammo, therefor I will watch the typos with greater effort.

Secondly I’m sorry to have started out on the wrong foot with many of the posters on this board. I’m sure alot of you people rock, and I’m sure once you get past that little skirmish we had I belive you’ll realise I’m not to bad of a guy either.

As for my choice to take weight training, P.E here is REQUIRED for at least 1 year, meaning if I did not take any I WILL NOT pass high school. I needed a P.E credit and second peroid was the only time I could do it. The thing was only weight training was left open, so I took what I could get. Belive me, I would of went to another class if there was anything open, but when you are in a school of 1700 that was designed for 1000 you loose alot of free choice. :frowning:

Last but not least, my handle “CandyBoi” is not a error in typeing or spelling. In the gothic subculture (at least around here) “boi” refers to a gothic male, while “girlie” or “giRrrRl” refers to a gothic female.

Glad we could get this cleared up…peace
Mike

Listen CandyGoth, what on earth makes you think we care?

You have less than 50 posts, you pop into the pit for an incoherant rant about the jock vs goth stuff, and THEN you start another thread about more of this juvenile crap.

The Marilyn Manson quotes are WAY cool thought…really.

I have heard a little bit about goth. As long as you are giving us a little info, would you mind saying a little more about what goth is? Thanks.

Well you read the thread so you must of had a reson to do so right? Was it another chance to an asshole? Your post would make me think so, it adds nothing positive to the OP. Why did you go out of your way ONCE AGAIN in a attempt to be disrespectful to me? What puropose does it serve you besides making yourself look bigger and badder all of your little poster friends? Tell me that, I’d love to know whats going on in your little head.

CB, it’s one thing when you have a few words misspelled. It’s another when some of us get headaches trying to noodle out what the fuck you’re trying to say.

In a forum where we rely on the written word . . . if you can’t be clear with that, you’re sunk. Not our problem if we’re raised, some of us, on proper English and can’t figure out the ramblings of someone who doesn’t bother to check his spelling to make sure he’s understood.

You can find spelling errors, your so cool…

Uh, this is the Pit and all, but couldn’t we cut this kid some slack? C’mon, he flubbed a post, but came back, apologized and tried to do better.

Can’t really fault him for posting his rant in the Pit, either, because it was the logical place for it. His means of posting just needed some polishing.

Dude, it’s not about being able to find them, it’s about being able to form a cogent thought and have people understand.

And if it’s going to take Demo, kelli and myself proofing your posts until you bother to make intelligent statements, then I, for one, have no problem with that. We are not your parents or your teachers. I, for one, am not about to tell an asshole like you how you make yourself more intelligent. Go read a book on how to spell and not sound like someone half your age. Okay?

Could we, perhaps, have some sort of literacy test people have to pass before they can post mindless drivel with no attention to whether or not anyone can actually understand it?

You’re… as in you are. Your denotes possession.
And while you might be possessed, your is still
not appropriate.

I weep for our education system.

I feel like saying, “Back off, with yuh?” to some of you. But, this is the Pit, and someone’s bound to tell me to go do something involving the word “felch” and/or “squick.” Particular with our grammar and spelling we may be, but creative in our cursing and flaming…well, not always.

But sheez, folks, give the kid a break. He’s willing to play by the rules, so what’s the deal? No, his spelling and grammar still aren’t perfect, but few but the seriously anal among us really care about perfection (at least, in others…I am admittedly a bit of a perfectionist when it comes to myself). He’s coherent now, and that’s what ultimately matters.

I personally welcome you aboard, CandiBoi. I wasn’t a goth myself in high school, but I was close. I lived in black–skirts, shirts, tights, hats, jeans, pants, shoes, boots, etc.–and bright red lipstick and mounds of silver jewelry were a regular part of my wardrobe. Sometimes I’d have fun with the black eyeliner and draw stuff on my face, too, but for the most part, I was a pseudo-goth. My friends were the real thing, however.

If I may interject a bit here…

Spider Woman, you can do a quick search on just about any search engine for Goth stuff (I’ve done a small amount of research into this, since it interests me a bit). Primarily what defines the subculture is the music (Bauhaus, Sisters of Mercy, the Cult, to name a very few ‘Goth’ groups). Unfortunately, there is a significant drug element as well.

One thing I have learned, though, is that Marilyn Manson most defintely is not Goth (no offense, CandyBoi)…

And, if I may interject further…

I, for one, have had no difficulty trying to decipher CandyBoi’s posts. Yes, it may take more effort as a result of the grammar / misspellings / etc., but I can still do it. And so can many of the rest of you, iampunha included. If you couldn’t make it out, you wouldn’t be able to post a “clarified” version, now would you? If I were to go off on all of the silly little misspellings and grammatical errors I see on this board (by just about everyone), it’d be a full time job. Let it go already.

Goth? Well, it’s not quite a gopher and not quite a moth. I have an infestation in my basement.

Everyone else find something else to do. I hate having a great thread overrun by the grammar police. And I really can’t bear all the superiority that is held over the heads of newbies by “regulars” because of their tumid post-counts. I’ve been lurking here for anout 6 months-- and have enjoyed posts by regulars and the newbies. Call me a newbie if you like–but back off and enjoy the SDMB for what is was meant to be-- a forum for discussion.

And I love the pit, discussion is more realistic here than anywhere else. But if I want to hear (read) name-calling (“Your spelling sucks!” “You can’t spell you’re right!”) I’ll go hang out with some 15 year olds (threads about 15 year olds).

Have fun, kids, and chill out. :::mom hat off:::

Mike, you sound swell to me. Spelin isnt al its craked up too be. (Usually it’s just tired fingers typing.) You sound like a lot of fun. I’m looking forward to learning more about you.

I hated PE too!!

Nothing to add. Just wanted to acknowledge Greyson’s joke. Damn, that was funny.

I have to say that while I appreciate that CB has apologized, his posts do make me cringe. I wonder how he made it into high school with such poor writing skills. If this is really what the schools are churning out, I weep for our future. I can’t help but think, when I read his posts, “here is someone with a very low intelligence” or “here is someone who never paid attention in class” or any number of other things… and it DOES get in the way of trying to pay attention to whatever point he is making.

“would of went” ??? Dear god.

Don’t worry so much CandyBoi. Don’t think that because some don’t like you that most or even many don’t as well. How many people have you interacted with on this board? And there are probably 500-1000 or so reasonably-active people here.

And FTR, I only point out spelling or grammar errors if they make an especially funny statement. My typing is terrible, and I have wrist problems, so I mis-type a lot when I’m in a hurry.

About your comment of:

Realize that even the most beautiful song falls flat if you are off-key. Try typing your longer posts in Word or something, and after checking them Copy and Paste into the reply box. Just a suggestion, that I myself don’t always follow…

Many “younger persons” (please, don’t be insulted) do not regularly correspond much with “older persons” except in the medium of something like this Web Board. You can also look at criticism of spelling and grammar in a positive light, as a way to improve your ability to communicate with older persons on a more formal level. And in general, the people who frequent this board are pretty damn smart relative to general public. Chances are if you can write a good post that no one here can criticise on spelling, grammar, and content, you can write a professional letter or work that can be appreciated by a wide range of intelligent peers as well.

Oh, and FTR, I neither like nor dislike you. I’ll wait and see what I think after you post more.

BTW - is black Armani considered goth clothing? I really like wearing it - maybe I’m goth and don’t know it.

CB, don’t feel too bad. I don’t blame you for having your feelings hurt a bit by the rather blunt way people corrected your spelling. It must sting.

You sound like a smart kid (sorry, I’m entited to call you “kid”, I’m old enough to be your mother) and I don’t think you sound unintelligent. However, your spelling does need improvement. PLEASE spell check it. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE. With spell-check programs being so common, there’s no reason not to use one of them. And you need one, m’dear.

None of us have perfect spelling or grammar, and we all let something slip through the cracks. I have less than perfect spelling/grammar, and sometimes cringe at the mistakes I make. Yet no one here has (yet) picked apart an entire post I have written. People here are not so totally ruthless that they will nitpick all the damned time. When your spelling errors ease up, so with the spelling/grammar police. You’ll see.
