No such luck. One, sales reps are parsed out by territory. The company that needs the upgrade is in LA, the LA sales rep gets it. And even if that weren’t the case, we’re web-based – go out to lunch with them? Hell, I’ve only seen my boss maybe a half-dozen times this year. In my eight years with the company, I’ve shaken hands with maybe two of the sales reps.
I guess that should be the consolation for me in this – the sales reps are schlepping from sales meeting to sales meeting, monkey suit every day. Meanwhile, I’m in my office on the third floor of my home, and if I didn’t have to bring my daughter to day care in the morning, I’d probably work naked every day.
I suppose it’s possible, but when you’re in sales, you better keep a close eye on your humor circuits. I don’t have the option of directly telling her to fuck off and get out of my office – clients do.
This was a really good rant. In my day (or in my location, maybe), they were called inside sales and outside sales. Nothing sucked more than being stuck with a shitty outside salesman.
Wasn’t there, don’t know her, don’t know you, never spent any time in sales, really, never worked at home, haven’t lived in a house with a third floor in more than two decades – oh! I have a daughter! In fact, I have two! And they both used to go to day care!
So here’s my opinion on your OP:
When I first read it, my original reaction was a twinge of sympathy for the poor boob (would adding an ‘s’ make it the feminine form?) who, it seemed, was obviously self-conscious about the plain fact that you made her extra money and, outside of tipping you (pretty insulting), she didn’t know what she could do to make things right, and felt that at least she could say something to acknowledge that she knew the truth of the matter, and what she said wasn’t enough and just left you feeling worse and there wasn’t any pre-programmed script in her brain to deal with that, and that doesn’t give you a single reason to forgive and forget, does it?
Salespeople are tactless boors, mostly because the profession still rewards it. They should never be allowed near the people who do the work, but sometimes they are, and it’s not completely their fault. She’s an ass, but her limitations may have helped the company pay a percentage of your salary once, too.
