Oh, hey - I wondered where Jack had been lately. What a shock to find him here, practicing his own unique brand of dickishness. Where there’s a woman to cast slurs upon, rest assured we’ll find Jack. Like Superman and crime, only the asshole version.
From the Washington Post:
“Under rules of evidence in Pennsylvania, prosecutors can introduce allegations brought by the other women if those allegations establish a mode of operation or pattern of behavior by Cosby.”

And, wow, a million dollars bail (with 10% bond having to be paid). And he surrendered his passport.
I wasn’t expecting such high bail for this kind of offense. Does bail change depending upon the financial status of the defendant? The idea being that a $25,000 bail is not an incentive for someone as rich as Cosby.
Yes.
The modus operandi stuff is exceedingly difficult to bring in. It has to be extremely specific (“he gave me a glass of Chateau Briand '71 with what was later identified as GHB in it, then penetrated me anally” or whatever, versus “he spiked my drink and felt me up.”)
Actually, without comment on any specifics of Pennsylvania, I am not sure I agree. We’re not too far removed from the old “lustful disposition” 404(b) evidence that seemed to equate any prior sex offense with any instant sex offense.
In my view, it’s enough to be able to say, “Quaaludes, wine, invite to his private room, said he’d help my career,” and have the allegations pass the 404(b) test.
I think he’d have some chance in arguing that the prejudice outweighs the probative, but in my opinion these are specific enough to get in as prior bad acts offered to show a common plan, scheme, or motive.
I heard on tonight’s news that one woman was “urged” by him to take some pills. Since people generally don’t just take pills that are handed to them in someone’s house without knowing what they are, I wonder what was really meant by “urged”.

We’ve heard a version of that story several times. If the woman was feeling unwell, he told her that it was medicine. Other times he said it was something to help her relax or have fun.
That makes more sense. Now that you mention that, I’ve heard it too.
Most informative piece I’ve read so far when it comes to analyzing the case…

True, but I would say your example is closer to “he gave me a glass of Chateau Briand '71 with what was later identified as GHB in it, then penetrated me anally” than to “he spiked my drink and felt me up.”
I haven’t been following the facts of the Cosby case closely enough to know how similar the accusations are, except that they all involve drugs.
*mumbles something about Chateaubriand being a steak dish, not a drink.
Chateau Briand is also a Bordeaux wine.
Fucking well is not.
Fucking well is. And it’s got cigar ox aromas, too! Moo.
Jesus wept. What a stupid fucking name for a Bordeaux. Even one that retails under US$15.
Well, bugger me. Not an invitation
Your point, for the record, was well-taken. Next time I’ll use Montrachet. ![]()
Could you one-percenters go rent a banquet hall or something? This thread is about Cosby.
Fine.
Which goes better with quaaludes, Bordeaux or Burgundy? Discuss, my one-percenters, discuss.
Sorry, dear fellow, but can that wait until after the brandy and cigars? One simply mustn’t rush the good things in life.
Tibbetts, bring my special H. Uppmans, would you?
