Anagrams are sort of a hobby of mine. (Yes, I have WAY too much free time on my hands.) I see names, phrases, etc., and I want to rearrange the letters. My “timid ocean” doesn’t always work. (unscramble, you’ll understand…)
Anyway, for what it’s worth (very, very little is my guess) here are a few I knocked off (during lunch) for Cecil & Company. Now of course, it’s always helpful to add words or phrases to what you’re anagramming (to give you more letters to work with), such as: “Cecil Adams, World’s Smartest Human” or “The Straight Dope by Cecil Adams” (which I’m sure TM’s will scramble if this thread continues), but sometimes I like to anagram the goal words only. It’s a bit more challenging, but it’s somehow a purer form of the (ha!) art.
Here goes…
If you buy into the fact that anagrams can reveal hidden meanings (I don’t, but it’s fun), what are we to make of
“Cecil Adams”
becoming
“Acid Camels”?
Perhaps they are what he used to take and used to smoke? More straightforward is
“Aced Claims”,
which I take as a reference to him never being wrong.
“Slug Signorino”
becomes
“loon ruins gigs”.
I don’t happen to believe this one (at least not the “ruins” part) but there we are…
“Ed Zotti”
has so few letters, but still has meaning.
“Edit to Z”
could mean he is very very thorough.
And as for
“The Straight Dope”
itself, well it doesn’t bode well. Perhaps the Federal Intelligence Community at some point will determine that Cecil is doing too good a job dispensing what they are supposed to have a monopoly on; I just hope the following is not a future headline:
“Hipster got death”
I’m sure Dopers will find many more hidden meanings. It’s fun, believe me…
