A May 30 MMP

My local NPR affiliate mentioned this when I was on my way to irk this morning:

People Aren’t Stopping For Washington State Police (motorious.com)

The claimed reason is that new laws discourage high-speed pursuits and people are taking advantage of the situation.

But that’s just what reminded me of what happened this morning. I’d just gotten through Mount Vernon, a town where I do watch my speed in the mornings because they have a pretty good State Patrol presence. I pushed up to 71 or maybe 72 mph using my cruise control after the 70 mph speed limit sign. A dark grey Dodge Charger was getting close to my tail – not annoyingly close; just close enough that I could tell he wanted to pass at the earliest opportunity. As soon as I was safely past the garbage truck in the right lane, I moved over. The grey Charger passed me and moved into the right lane because there was a burgundy Charger that was getting close to his six. The grey charger widened the distance between us gradually. I don’t know; maybe he was doing 75 or so. Then the burgundy Charger signaled he was getting into the right lane.

That annoyed me. There wasn’t that much space yet between me and the grey Charger. And the left lane was clear. He could have easily passed the grey Charger. That’s when the lights came on. Yep, the burgundy Charger was an unmarked State Patrol car. He pulled the grey Charger over. I moved left and slowed down until I passed, per state law. I’m not sure why the grey Charger was pulled over. I didn’t think he was going especially fast. I didn’t think he was tailgating me. He moved over when the burgundy Charger was close to him. I’m guessing maybe he had been speeding earlier, or some other thing.

I may be getting a two-fer tomorrow. Roxy was kept home from school today with a cough and a slight fever (no more than 100°) and tylenol helped her feel better. If she’s still sick tomorrow, I’ll keep both kids, because SIL does not need to miss any more work. We’ll just hang in the basement - it’s cooler, there’s a TV and all her toys, and Toby doesn’t care where he is… at least not yet.

Supper was good - a did a couple of poke chops sous vide, pulled out a couple of twice-baked spuds, steamed some broccoli, and mixed up some leftover brown gravy with the last of the white mushrooms. Higgs got all the gravy leavin’s, so she’s happy. And it’s all about keeping the puppehs happy, right?

Chillage shall ensue.

ive had a hellova week since my computer adventures …injuries and colds to cousins and aunts… people with colds … just bleh…

bumba, even with the leaky eyes, seeing Vinnie’s doppelganger puppy had to warm your heart. Hugs.

nellie, I also include the vets who came back as train wrecks and were never the same on memorial day.

Happy birthday wet one!

I hope that FCinLaws decide that Texas is just too far Mooooom. Or they forget about the trip. I worry a little bit about dementia too, as my mom and her dad both had stroke related dementia.

Irked, came home, walked Nelson, et and will do KP shortly. I learned how to flash Samsung phones at irk today, so perhaps I’ll just be one of those Jills-of-all-trades. :stuck_out_tongue:

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Well, them and the grandbabbies.

Happy Toosday!

Happy Birthday WetOne!

Nice morning at the park. No drama today. It was only Barky mom and me. Later a woman who was driving through stopped in with her two (one chocolate, one black) labs. They were sweet, but timid, nice dogs. There were a few pile-on when Barky and Humpy would get one of the labs alone and surround her barking. I called Echo back (and she listened!) because I think 3 on 1 is scary for a new dog.
Urban can handle it. He often gets 4 or 5 on 1. When he has had enough, he’ll come sit on my feet and I’ll protect him.

Babies in strollers aren’t too bad. At least they stay put.
There was a woman who would bring her twins in a stroller, and my dogs are leery of strollers. However, she would give her kids cookies and crackers, which the dogs would take from them. Even my Echo got up the courage to grab a few. At least she licked it out from between the babies’ fingers.
Toddlers running loose are the ones I worry about. They are going to get knocked down, that is a given. One day a toddler was chasing Ripple around, and while I know neither of mine would attack a child, getting cornered by a child is different.

I’ve seen grown adults walk into the park with food, McD’s or KFC. They come close to being knocked down, and they get pissed when they sit down to eat and every dog in the park is trying to grab their food.
The sign on the gate says no food in the dog park.

I got almost everything done last night.
I didn’t move the plants because I figured they weren’t going to get any sun at night. All of them won’t fit on my table under the window anyway, so I had to decide who gets put outside. I put the prayer plant and the pre-bonsai jade plant out there.
I didn’t water the outside plants and I felt horrible when I saw my Peace Lily this morning. All the leaves were draped over the side of the pot. According to the care instructions, it should only need to be watered once a week. Maybe because it’s outside, it needs to be watered every 2-3 days. Mike the palm is growing back, but he still looks sad.

What bothers me is that in the time I’m sitting there thinking about what to do first, I could have gotten everything done. It’s not like any of it is hard or time consuming.
I’ll blame it on stress.

I handled my son’s health insurance renewal today. I’d been putting it off, but it was easier than I expected.

In the I want to wring his neck department…
He told me his shoe had separated from the sole. I got online and ordered him a new pair from da jungle. The kind he usually wears was out of stock, and it took a good while to find another suitable pair that would be here in time for him to go to irk today. In the meantime, I told him to get the gorilla glue and glue his shoe back together just in case. There was no way I was going to get him to a store to buy a pair.
I don’t know what made me go back out and check the order, but I saw I had ordered the wrong size. To get the shoes in the correct size meant having to wait until next week for them. Back out to look for a pair in his size, that are suitable, and will be delivered in time. I ordered two pairs just to be safe.
One pair got here Saturday. There is no way he would wear them. I didn’t look at them closely enough, they were running shoes that have a blade type attachment on the soles. He couldn’t wear them if he wanted to, he couldn’t get his feet in them.
The other pair were supposed to be delivered today by 10PM.
So, when does my son decide to try to glue his old shoes back together? This morning.
The gorilla glue is old and like rubber. He tried wood glue and that didn’t irk. Then he tried Scott’s glue and it irked
Fortunately, his new shoes got here early today, so he is good to go.
Now I have to take the other ones to da jungle locker to return them.
And order him another pair of shoes, because he should have two pairs, even though he doesn’t think so.
You have to be prepared, and have a spare, and not wait until the last minute to fix things.

Happy Scooping Sunny
which even though I know it is scoping, I read it as scooping, and that conjures up very strange images.

I hope everything is okay with Bailey, Ooopsie.

Maybe you should try calling the MAB (Medical Advisory Board) or whatever they call it at the Florida MVA, FCM. They will call your FIL in and test him. If he fails the test, they will take his license. I’ve done it, and while I felt bad for ratting out somebody, I’d feel even worse if they killed themselves or somebody else.
It’s frustrating, but could be deadly.

We had a huge thunderboomer this afternoon. Very unexpected.
I’m so glad thunder and fireirks don’t bother my dogs, or cat. All three of them were sitting on the back porch during the storm.

Howdy Y’all! We have a spiffed up cave and clean laundry. I call today a win! We also managed sloth and nappage. Sup got fixed and et and the kitchen cleanded up as well. Thus was the day in swampland.

Oopsie hope Bailey is feelin’ better, poor baby!

shades hope things get less sucky for ya.

So my current dilemma is, how do I tell my neighbors that their new puppy has separation anxiety and barks constantly when they aren’t home. I don’t mind the barking, but I feel bad for the dog. I don’t see them often to interact, the set up of our houses has me on one side and them on the far side. Leave a note on the door? Feels weird. I’m friendly with them, exchange christmas cookies, that sort of thing, the oldest son retrieved his drone from my garage roof, with assistance, about a month ago.

My best wishes to Bailey!

Happy birthday, wet one

Is it possible that she is having separation anxiety issues? Whatever it turns out to be, I hope that it get resolved quickly.

shady I hope the rest of the week is better from here.

VanGo it sounds like a note is the way to go. It might be a good time to exchange phone numbers, so you can text or call if you need to in the future.

I took my son to irk, and then drove to da jungle locker to return the shoes.
My son said the new shoes really hurt his feet, but he wore them anyway.

I got home and BB&W cat was laying in my parking pad. He got up when I pulled in and ambled off. Both of my dogs saw him and went off.
I couldn’t see him anymore and ASSUMED he went into the neighbor’s yard. Good thing I waited because he was beside my truck.
The little beast walked slowly, very slowly, by my truck, stopped to take a piss by the side window, and slowly walked the entire length of my truck while staring down my dogs.
Ripple was barking his fool head off. Echo was doing her shrill whine that ends in a gurgle.

I wish I had had JtC’s hose at that moment.

Fair question, but she’s almost 14 and has been going to the same daycare/kennel for about 10 years and has never had separation anxiety (or this kind of GI issue) before. That said, I can’t rule anything out at the moment. Whatever it is, I wish I could fix it: she hasn’t been this sick in a long time, and I forgot how hard it is to see her so uncomfortable/unhappy. Of all the times for my magic wand to be broken…

I hate hiccups. I started these shortly after my last post, so like, two hours.

It was a regular heave today, but lots of rewraps to do.But Blueberry the cat was running around, and startled a few of my co workers.. Having a Manhattan. I don’t have a history of on dementia in my family. We’re fit and healthy till we drop dead.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY WETONE!!!

Alex Catt uses the back of the sectional as one, and not the scratching post.
And sorry about the whole family medical drama.

The few times I could get Gordie into the dogpark, he stick his head in the stroller and give the kids a lick.

I have 3. It gets 100+ degrees in the dumping station, so I like to give them time to air out.

{{{{Oopsie and Bailey}}}}

Evening all. Shopping was done and banking completed, nappage taken and files re-arranged on my computer, so some activity was accomplished. Did not make it to the gym as I had planned, I really need to get back into that groove again. Tomorrow I have a car appointment at the dealership, nothing is wrong with it but I do need the standard work done at around 50,000 miles, so it could be a long morning. We’ll see.

Sari, kid should order his own shoes, IMHO, since it’s his feet and he’s bringing in at least some cash. And that cat has an attitude that’s going to get him in trouble one of these days.

VanGo, agreed that a note (very neighborly-like and not accusatory) is probably the best thing to do.

Flyboy, cops here tend to hang out near the schools and churches, but usually the 2-3 lane streets (3 lane has a left-turn middle lane) so usually not much chance to speed. And my allotment has a long straight avenue that they installed a couple speed bumps in, so you don’t go fast to get home.

Oopsie, hope the Hospital and Insurance sort this out so you don’t have to pay for it. And {{Bailey}}.

OK, computer is telling me the current deletes on my stick will take a day to complete, I’ll give it to 11pm and then do the rest tomorrow. All y’all take care.

I’m usually sound asleep by now.

Got a text from my niece, she got my mother’s test results and they are not good.
For the CA19-9 protein, normal is 1.2 - 35.0
Her count was 2000+ in April
Now it is 5000+
The tumor is growing.
I called my mother and she seems unconcerned about that.
She had to go to the doctor today though because when she woke up her legs were red and one was swollen. She’s fine, but the doctor thought it might be blood clots.

Then OAOASO called, which had me concerned because he would never call me this time of night. He knows I go to bed by 9 and am up around 5-6. It was an accidental call.

Then a friend called to let me know her husband has covid. She needs to test herself to see if she has covid.

I should have gone to bed at 8:00 as planned.

MetalMouse, I don’t know if he could figure out how to use da jungle. Well, he could figure it out. He will be paying for them though, kind of, sort of, as in he gives me his paycheck anyway. Sometimes I feel guilty using some of it, but then the house is in his name so there is nothing wrong with him paying part of the mortgage, or pitching in on utilities and food.
Part of me thinks that as a parent, I should be taking care of him. The other part thinks he is an adult and if he wasn’t living here, he’d be paying a lot more to live somewhere else.
I do need to hand off some of the responsibilities to him, like he should order his own shoes, and he needs to start ordering groceries and paying bills. Although, most of the bills are auto pay, so all he has to do is keep money in the accounts.

I’m sorry the news about your mother isn’t better sari. Honestly, given all that you have going on right now, I’m not surprised that it takes a minute to get started on your to-do list. {{{ hugs }}}

Happy Birthday wetone, have another pint for me!

I am so sorry this is happening. Dealing with dementia and death just fucking sucks. It’s even worse when it’s family.

Cats usually don’t like citrus, maybe spray some lemon or orange extract on your recliner. It will make it smell good and might make Ziva avoid it.

As claws clicking on the floor
so are the dogs of our lives…

Or: As paws through the door flap
so are the dogs of our lives

I haven’t decided which works better. Yes, Mom did watch soaps, why would you ask?

I don’t want to hurt kitty, he’s just doing what cats do. I get far too much pleasure out of managing to actually spray him with water though. He’s welcome to hang out anywhere else in our yard, I don’t want him close to the bird feeders. That’s not fair for the birds. (I haven’t ever even considered doing anything about the hawk that likes to come by for breakfast cause not the same thing in my mind.)

Really? You are just going to drop that there without links or descriptions? And here I thought you were a nice guy :frowning:

Bumba I know all about the eyes watering thing. Shamefully, there are times when I look at GG and think “I sure do miss The Best Cat in the World.” and get all watery because GG isn’t TBCitW and nokitty will ever be TBCitW, but I love our happy idiot too.

Phone, finish later.

Tony has been moved to an assisted nursing care home. Hubs said that he was doing pretty poorly yesterday and I guess he hasn’t improved. It’s bad enough that hubs had to verbally tell them that Tony did want hospice care and will have to drive back over the mountain tomorrow to put pen to paper because without that, they were going to have to send Tony back to the hospital. Tony isn’t very responsive and Hubs is all he has left.

Kitty is here and out in the catio. Kitty has always been an inside cat but back when Tony was Tony, he built window cages so the cats could sit “outside” so kitty does have some idea about the outside world.

We’ve put kitty on shelter waiting lists and he has a place to stay for as long as it takes.

Someone asked me if Tony really wanted to live and I didn’t answer because that’s such a hard question. Tony has never been actively suicidal and has never said anything about wanting to be dead that I know of.

Tony moved into a small place with cleaning and meals, and promptly stopped cleaning (but didn’t allow the cleaners in). He got a walker then thought he needed a wheelchair. He got an electric wheelchair and thought he didn’t need to walk anymore. He went into hospice and got a portable potty to have next to his hospital bed and thought that meant he didn’t have to bother using the bathroom anymore.

He seems to be willingly embracing every single thing that only seriously ill folks need and stops even trying to attempt to do anything but resist medical advice because they are all quacks who are just after his money.

After giving that hard question a bunch of thought, I will have to say the answer is Yes. Tony doesn’t want to live anymore and probably hasn’t for a while. He just won’t see that for himself just like he never sees anything that might suggest he is at fault or wrong.

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave.

{{{{sari and sariMom}}}}

Sorry about Tony, JtC. :frowning:

Morning, mumpers! It’s 12c/54f out there today and mostly cloudy. Weather app says “Imagine if you were riding a horse and all that horse wanted to do was eat grass. That’s like this fucking weather. Boring”. That just about sums it up.

{{{{{sari and mum}}}}} I’m sorry the news isn’t better too.

JtC I am sorry to hear about Tony’s continued woes, but glad you and Hubs were able to get him into some kind of care facility, and also ensure Kitty is cared for. It does sound like he has lost the will to live, and that is a very sad situation. He is lucky to have the pair of you in his life though, and you have most definitely done right by him.

Oopsie I hope Bailey is feeling better soon, it’s such a pity they can’t talk to us and tell us what’s wrong.

We have two elderly mogs at home, Ophelia is nearly 18 and recently diagnosed with hyperthyroidism which she now has medication for. That’s improved her condition although she is still quite thin and looks like a proper old lady.

Shadow is at least as old as her, possibly older. He’s had cystitis in the past and now has a daily supplement to help keep him comfortable. He sometimes has down days, and has recently been off his food a bit.- the vet said he had some inflammation in his mouth but couldn’t tell what was causing it. A course of Metacam sorted him out, and I found some soft food in broth that he seemed to like. Now he’s off that again, I gave him tuna which he ate but again, he’s losing a bit of weight so he may have to go back to the vet. I wish he could just tell me if he’s sickening for something, or just bored with that food!
