A May 30 MMP

There are older threads titled A Memorial Day MMP. When I was a littler kid, Memorial Day was celebrated the 30. I was born the 31 and assumed the holiday was n my honor (as it should be). I am currently in York England and Memorial Day isn’t celebrated over here but the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee is kicking FV so maybe this celebration includes my trip around the sun.

Are youse doing anything to celebrate Memorial Day?

First! Hope you are enjoying York, a couple of my friends are up there this week, they’re doing a trip on the trains to get themselves out of London until the platinum jubbly lunacy is over.

I am at irk, it is irksome. It’s also 10c/50f and cloudy out there. The weather app quite rightly says “It’s overcast and mild. Shut your fucking pie hole and grab your rain coat just in case”. Very apt, since it was drizzling when I left home this morning for my walk to the station.

We don’t celebrate Memorial Day over here, but of course we do have the Jubbly coming up and that’s sending people completely crazy. I got to the University station this morning and it’s completely covered in bunting. Looks horrible

You’re in the United Kingdom, so their Memorial Day happens to be Remembrance Day.

Monday’s almost gone here. Miserable cold, damp shit of a day, thank fark for working from home. Into the office tomorrow unfortunately.

No celebratory plans here. We’ll probably go back to the boat and try to get the last 2 hoses replaced, if FCD’s back and knees hold out. Does FedEx deliver on Federal holidays? I know a new credit card has been issued for us and we paid for expedited delivery. I need to change all my accounts in the next couple of days so they all get paid via VISA.

FCD has another dental appt tomorrow - I may have to send him with my emergency debit card to cover the copay. Dammit. And this week, I’ll go to the credit union and get a “travel only” credit card from them. They don’t call it “travel only” but we will. Can you apply for a card and tell them you only want a $2K limit?

Other than that, just another day in Paradise. Happy Moanday!!

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN 'Tis 66 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 93 and N.O.S. for the day. As I mentioned in the last MMP, we shall have a little soiree out by the cee-mint pond to celebrate the official start of Summer. The slaw has been made and the baked beans are ready to go into the oven when 'tis time to do so. We shall frolic, carry on, and engage in general overall silliness, then feast upon hot dawgs ‘n fixin’s, baked beans, coleslaw and watermelon. Should be a good day and hopefully everyone will be gone by mid-afternoonish. I’m lookin’ forward to this!

From the last MMP, JtC the friend is indeed lucky to have people who care about him the way you and Mr. Cane do. I do not fault y’all for sayin’ he can’t stay at your place, given his behaviors. I hope a place for him is found and that he’ll realize he needs to do the things he needs to do in order to keep stayin’ there. I don’t blame the independent livin’ place for kickin’ him out. They have to worry about everybody there and when a resident refuses to comply, they have to make a choice. Hopefully there is some sort of “fleabag” motel/hotel or roomin’ house option out there for him.

WetOne of course the good people of the UK are celebratin’ your bein’ amongst us as well as the
Queen’s Jubilee!

MOOOOOOM who knows with FedEchs. They deliver on Sundays so they just might.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah,

Happy Moanday Y’all and a Happy Memorial Day to all Amurrkin Mumpers!

Just looked it up - no deliveries today. So with luck, it’ll get here tomorrow.

I generally hate when FB tries to get me to friend the friends of friends… (is that confusing??) For example, it popped up the husband of a former neighbor that I used to babysit over 50 years ago. I know him, and I doubt he’s said a dozen words to my total. But I loved his profile pic.

He’s standing next to a sign saying “Reitred - it’s you r problem now.” I want that on a shirt!!!

Morning all. Going to be a hot one, high of 88F predicted, so the AC will get a workout. Shopping-n-sammich-n-swimming are on the agenda for today, banking will have to wait for tomorrow. Mowage will be accomplished the latter part of the week and laundry needs to be started but I’m not quite out of clothes yet…

Jane the Cane, I also read with sadness your friend’s issues from last week’s MMP. The relevation that he has assets and the ability to get assistance makes it all the more tragic. I think you and husband-unit are doing the right thing–trying to make his last days comfortable but not taking undue risks. Take care.

swampy, sounds like a Holiday plan to me. Enjoy.

Wet one, I’ve only seen York from the train platform en-route to Edinburg, Scotland, hope you are enjoying your time there. Oh, and happy (early) birthday wishes.

OK, onward into the week. All y’all take care.

Warm here and gray. Will probably rain a bit off and on today. Have a bunch of suddenly urgent admin crap to attend to, so of course it’s a 3-day weekend and none will be doable until the relevant offices open tomorrow. Sigh. Otherwise I’ve not got much to accomplish.

My cold (or whatever it its) is slowly subsiding under the onslaught of a second course of meds. With Dayquil on board I feel mostly normal except for needing a Kleenex box more than normal. Still, it’s amazing how tired I get after just a couple hours upright.

Been back here a week now and am already spending too much time Doping. Hope I recover soon before this turns into a habit that overstays its welcome. Again.

Cheers all!

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off today. I have no clue what to do with myself, as I suck at slothing. I don’t want to go out because A. the 'Rona is picking up again, B. I don’t want to reward TPTB for making people work extra. Maybe I’ll alphabetize the junk drwer.

I’ll celebrate WetOne Day. As far as the Queen goes, “Supreme Executive power derives from a mandate from the masses, not some farcical aquatic ceremony!” - Dennis

I’m sorry about your friend, JtC. Sounds like a no win situation.

Feel better. And feel free to keep a litte Mumping on your schedule, post recovery.

We are getting together with kids and grandkids today for the first time since arriving in Mipples. A happy occasion, but also somewhat sad, as June 1st is the fourth anniversary of my son’s death. His absence looms over most all family gatherings.

Mornin, all. No definite plans for the holiday here. I’m thinkin some back porch/book time will be involved.

Good morning everyone.

It’s damp and gray here. This has been the wettest May in 74 years.

JtC, I also read about Tony’s problems and think you and the hubby are wonderful people. You have rightly set limits. I would do the same.

I don’t have any plans for today. I’ll probably stick close to the house and do laundry. I lead such an exciting life.

Nothing Memorial-Day-related, but I’ll be going to D.C. tonight: some great local jazz musicians/friends will be at Blues Alley, with special guest Janis Siegel (of The Manhattan Transfer). I’ve been looking forward to it; I’m glad Bailey is recovered enough for me to feel comfortable going out for a few hours.

First thing this morning I went out and sprayed a bunch of Roundup on the gravel driveway, which tries to turn into an extension of the front lawn every summer. I was too lazy to open/set up the next pump-n-go container after I emptied the current one, but I’ll go out again one morning next weekend (or sometime) to finish spraying. It’s good to wait, anyway, so I can move the car in the meantime and also see if I missed any spots today.

Right now it’s nearly 11am, and just about time to relocate to the living room. My plan for the rest of the day – until it’s time to shower/head out – is to focus on becoming one with the couch. I think I can do it if I try hard enough.

Add me to the “ugh” chorus about Tony, JtC. :frowning: It’s so true that you can’t help someone who doesn’t think they need help…mental illness can be quite insidious in that way.

The Spousal Unit said a few weeks ago that the Roundup pump container was empty a few weeks ago. The other day, I actually emptied it on the gravel beside the house. I managed to spray about 20 feet by for or five feet before it ran out. I did buy another container Saturday.

Wifey, RN has patients today. I don’t have any definite plans.

Mornin’ all. Just another Humpday for me. Well, a Humpday with about four times as many people to deal with than usual.

Yesterday was a lot busier than Sattidy, with a lot more Stoopids. It never fails to amaze me how many people there are who have no concept of how tickets work, or can’t figure out how to work a credit card reader, or… the list goes on.

But I got to spend about half of yesterday driving the train, which always makes the day better. Should be up there for at least a couple hours today, hopefully more.

Oh, and thanks to bein’ a Teamster, I get 2.5x pay today, so that makes it a little easier to take.

Then it’s another 5 weeks til the next 3-day weekend.

Hello. Checking in with “confirmation of life.” Charm, Pretzel, and Monkey are all still kickin’ as well.
ETA: also ratties.

Checked when my next car payment is, Capital One says September 3rd. Screw that, I’ll probably have Carmen paid off by that point(1 year early).

Yay! And I’m sure Charm. Pretzel, and Monkey are glad that the back up fuuds are alive and kicking, as well.

Apologies for being redundant and saying things twice.
