A crumby jelly MMP

Starting the week with a rant - deal with it! :stuck_out_tongue:

When my MIL makes toast, she’ll use the butter-and-crumb covered knife to dig into the jar of jelly! :open_mouth: Who does that?? Don’t civilized people use a spoon to extract jelly, jam, or preserves from the jar? So I’ve now got 2 jars (one grape, one strawberry) with extra, shall we say, gusto mixed in with the fruity goodness.

We’ll be taking them home in 3 more sleeps. Then sanity will return to my toast toppings.

Yeah, yeah, Happy Moanday.

First! It’s good to be juvenile!

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 66 Amurrkin out and foggy with a predicted high of 95 and mostly N.O.S. for the day. Cleanin’ lady comes this mornin’ and we have men’s night over to the church house this evenin’. Thus is the excitatement on a Moanday in southwest Jawja. I am sure we will manage the usual sloth as well,

MOOOOOOM that’s it! We are no longer a civilized society. It’s all toast crumbs in the jelly, jam, and preserves! No one cares. Chaos descends! All decency is lost! Plus, toast crumbs in the jelly, jam, and/or preserves is just ICK!

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then I suppose I shall make myself presentable before the cleanin’ lady comes.

Happy Moanday Y’all!

Don’t forget the crumbs in/on the butter!

Good morning, everyone. I’m having a bit of a nervous day, because I’m already fretting over the dentist appt., tomorrow afternoon. It’s only for a cleaning, but, still. I’m NOT looking forward to it. I have no idea why I get so worked up over a silly cleaning, though.

Not much is going on around here, today. I need to fold some laundry, and get it put away, and maybe think of something to make for dinner. Nothing sounds good. Whatever.

Have a good Monday.

Yeah, that’s the other thing - instead of taking a pat of butter, she scrapes along the top of the stick, leaving crumbs along the length.

FCD has a dental appt today to fix a crown that popped off while we were driving here from Indy. He has a cleaning in June, I have one in July or August. It’s not my favorite thing, but I never really had issues with going to the dentist. Maybe because Dr. Hoffman (my childhood dentist) was a pretty chill dude who never made me nervous.

We may take the inlaws to the marine museum today, just for something to do. Maybe we can have lunch out after?

I just put half and half in my coffee and it went bad overnight. Blech. Got a new cup and have to use milk in it. Skim, no less. Double blech. Getting my second COVID booster today.

I used to have a housemate who’d leave crumbs in the honey. My honey, if I left it out the cupboard. Especially annoying, as I very rarely have honey on toast or bread, but use it as a drink sweetener. Crumbs in one’s drink is just not on.

Afternoon, mumpers! Clearly you lot live amongst savages! Blokie does sometimes leave toast crumbs in the tub of spread but fortunately he doesn’t like marmalade and jam so I am the only one who eats them. And I know better than to use a crumby knife in there, it’s a spoon. Interestingly, he does use a spoon when he’s having Marmite but possibly because it’s hard to use anything else and not end up covered in goo

That’s all kiinds of disgusting!!

Showered and dressed. Dishwasher emptied. Kitchen floor vacuumed. Household garbage collected and ready to be hauled away. And I found Roxy’s sneakers.

We may go to the marine museum and then to lunch, assuming FIL is up to it.

My mom is constantly leaving bread crumbs all over the butter, which is kind of a mystery to me. She hates bread or toast for breakfast, so it’s like she’s manifesting these crumbs out of thin air! To add insult to injury, instead of starting at the end of the butter stick like civilized people, she scoops it off the top. Some people…

That’s too bad about the half and half, wet one - I usually use heavy cream if I’m not drinking my coffee black; I don’t know how I’d handle myself putting skim in my coffee. It might actually make me cry.

Today is hopefully going to be relatively quiet. Tomorrow was going to be my first day to work at the office; however, everyone just got home from a large in-person conference that lasted all week last week (all the higher ups anyway) and over half came back with The Big C. So, I think that’s gonna be a no. If I go in, I’m pretty much guaranteed some sort of exposure and I can manage that on my own, thank you very much.

Oh, well - must waddle. I’m doing a spin class tonight, too, so I’m going to waddle slowly, mostly to clear my brain. I ate garbage over the weekend and my brain and body are paying for it today.

My folks are leaving today. It was a good weekend. We went and explored some places that I hadn’t been to, the Women’s Rights Park in Seneca Falls, a couple of cool nature preserves, that sort of stuff. Fortunately, the guest room is too small for them, so they typically stay at an AirBNB nearby, so’s we have some time apart during the visits. They’re gonna stop by my shop of the way out of town.

Then I get to prep for my brother showing up tomorrow.

Good wishes for everyone! May the week treat you all well.

Took a personal day off from school because…(drum roll)…the landscapers start today! The entire front of the property has been junky for a while - grass growing through the rock, wild roses, untrimmed trees, etc. Didn’t think I could get it done until late Summer, but the combination of a healthy tax refund and a good crew with an opening this week means everything is getting done NOW! And I mean everything. They are stripping the yard, installing new heavy duty lawn fabric and replacing the faded red rock with new grey river rock. They are removing a stump, building a circle under the palm tree and mulching so it gets water to its roots, relocating the bird feeder onto the mulched part so the seeds splatter doesn’t show, pruning the palm, pruning the orange tree by the garage and clearing out and mulching its bed, removing the dozen roses in the front bed and mulching it well, and even prepping the planter that wraps around the corner of the garage that hasn’t had anything but dirt in it in 30 years. I might even get a dwarf pomegranate tree for the pot by the window from the crew! Real good price and they work pretty fast. Whole thing should be done by Wednesday. Huzzah!

Happy Monday!

Just back from a convenience center run - two big bags of garbage, three bags of recycling, two buckets of cat litter, and half a dozen cardboard boxes. Whew!! Glad it’s all gone - time to start on the next load! I didn’t get the party trash, tho. Daughter still has cleaning up to do there. So that’s next load.

FCD just stopped at CVS (I got a notice of a charge on our VISA.) Inlaws are watching TV. It’s way too wet to mow, so chillage for me till we leave.

Mooom, ah, the joys of having houseguests! You know, of course, that MIL will be going back home and telling her friends, “Can you believe my DIL dirties two utensils just to make jelly toast??” To some people, like Mrs W’s depression-era grandmother, thinks like this are of paramount importance. And WetOne, you will use the rest of that half and half. A little sour taste never hurt anyone. Mustn’t waste, you know!

I’m not a big fan of dental visits, as I’ve always had a very sensitive gag reflex. I’m sure its psychological, but I haven’t been able to overcome it. Some days are better than others, so its always a crapshoot regarding how tortuous a cleaning will be and how much I annoy the hygienist.

Our house contracts have officially been finalized and signed. We over-shot our budget target by all of $43. Not bad.
Now its all about waiting for mortgage approval, as interest rates continue to rise :face_with_symbols_over_mouth:.

When I make a Vegemite sandwich, I butter the toast. Then I wipe the knife clean with a paper towel before I dig into the Vegemite. Then I wipe it again before I put Vegemite on the other slice.

In other news, we just had a meeting. It looks like we’re getting a 2% 401k match, and a 2% Cost of Living raise. I had my camera on, and Abbey jumped down from the kitty shelves behind me. One of my cow-orkers laughed.

My sister-in-law is here. And so is her stuff. Everywhere. 10 more days. #sigh#

Hey, y’all, my name is Nellie.
I live alone. No crumbs in my jelly.
I drink my coffee with plenty o’ skim
Cause it means 10 minutes less at the gym.

Yes, I’m that much fun. Having a party? I’ll thrill your guests with my unused dental floss collection; bring my date, the narcoleptic actuary; monopolize the conversation with a long monologue about my pen rolling under the refrigerator. I can’t understand why I don’t get more invites.

FCM, my sympathies on the irritations. Did you find Roxy’s shoe?

quietly, the landscaping sounds wonderful. I’m intrigued by your big planter. Also, yippee for a day off as you head into the final stretch.

nona, as a child, I hid under the bed when I had to go to the dentist. He was a mean guy who didn’t use novocaine and acted like you deserved to suffer. He clearly hated children. I was shy and sensitive and cried if someone said “molar” or “filling.” Then one day he was being particularly brutal, I…bit him. I didn’t get in trouble because, as mom said years later, if anyone deserved biting, it was him. Our next dentist was much nicer but eventually ended up in the trunk of a car at O’Hare. (I’m innocent, I tell ya, innocent.)

VanGo, sounds like a nice time with your folks. I bet they were impressed by your shop. Hope you have a great time with your brother.

My husband reports that there may be crumbs in the Nutella, but it’s his Nutella, so he can do as he wants.

And he knows that only a dedicated utensil may be used for jelly, jam peanut butter and butter. He was brought up in a household with crumby butter and prefers his butter without.

Now I want scones. Might make some on Saturday, when it might cool down a bit. Today’s high was 22°C/72°F , and it’s supposed to get warmer each day until Friday’s predicted high of 31°C/87°F. We had a lovely thunderstorm yesterday evening, with lots of wind and rain. So today’s task was to stake the tomato plants in case we get more. Currently there’s some rumbling, but no rain yet.

It’s after 8 pm - time for some scotch.
Could also have toast with jelly. Except we seem to have some ants, so I don’t want to encourage them. Bought some new granules, so I hope they do something - I really don’t like ants inside. The ones outside can stay outside.

My mom’s kinda bad about the crumbs in the jelly thing too, but we don’t eat jelly or jam often so we don’t keep jars around. I take the little tubs of jelly that restaurants give you with toast and keep them for when Mom visits.

Aren’t you glad you didn’t start a working day like that? I need to get my second booster pretty soon as well, let us know how it went, OK?

quietly Hurray for the landscaping! Happy plants seem to cheer a home up just be being there. Are you going to make your pomegranate a tree or a bush? So far, mine has proven to be very easy to care for, but I haven’t made the tree/bush choice yet.

I have a little cloth basket I use to store my project stuff. When I am putting things away at night, everything goes into the basket and I cover the basket with a tea towel and then put my patterns on top. Despite all of my precautions, last night GG got into my basket, found a brand new spool of pearl cotton and proceeded to have a ball with it. Thankfully he just snarled and snagged the thread, he didn’t swallow any but he’s still a jerkface kitty kat who’s on my black list for a while. I guess I’ll have to start putting the basket in a drawer. GG doesn’t grock doors yet, he’s never going to figure drawers out.

I hate it when this happens. Almost not worth drinking the coffee.

Moomm did boat trip get cancelled?

VanGo I’m glad you’re having family time without too much family time. It’s much more civilized, I have to say.

That all sounds wonderful. I can’t wait for the pictures! (Hint, hint.)

:astonished:

I am going to do the paperirk today. I promise!

I slept until 10am. I don’t usually do that. It was weird but nice. Now I have to figure out what I’m doing for food. That’s always a challenge… Maybe just a protein bar.

Happy Monday everyone!

Got my second jab. I didn’t cry. Now I have to take pictures of my vaccine cards and my traveling companion’s card and upload to the airline website. The travel agent issued both our stuff on one invoice which annoys me to no end. Stopped at Aldi to do recon. Needed to see if the they have the fuds I need. They have most of the stuff and I left with some good junk food to get me through tonight cuz I plan on being crabby.

The sour half and half went down the drain. I got new half and half at Aldi.
