A Memorial Day MMP

**FCD **is still abed. I had breakfast instead of waiting for him to get up so we could go out for breakfast. Which is fine - he’s the one who really likes breakfast out.

I’ll let him sleep as much as he wants - poor guy is always exhausted. I think work is really stressing him and he refuses to relax at home. All day yesterday, he was working. Make me crazy that he can’t turn it off. I don’t know what he’s going to do when he retires, theoretically at the end of this year.

Anyway, I need to load the dishwasher and clean the critter fountain. Yep, get right on that… :stuck_out_tongue:

I’ll be right over.

Spousal unit got up, got dressed, and headed out for a McBreakfast and a stop at the hardware store. I got dressed, put the first load in the washer, loaded the dishwasher, and I’m thinking *reeeeeeeallllly *hard about cleaning the critters’ fountain. I pulled some poke chops out of the freezer - supper!!

Mostly, I want to just chill today while the achiness leaves my body. I call that a plan!

Blurf.

Got caught up cleaning today- so far, I’ve scrubbed out the upstairs bathroom, 90% cleaned the kitchen (including the cupboard doors, the fridge, and some horrible goop that I’m fairly sure has been on the windowsill since I moved in over 3 years ago), scrubbed the downstairs shower, and grumped at everyone about everything being a total mess.

I should now go water stuff in the allotment greenhouse, but it’s raining, and I’ve already watered myself sufficiently with shower water.

Howdy Y’all! We have deheathenated, had N.O.L., and the kitchen is clean. Chillage and sloth shall now ensue.

The 'maters I got from the Amish farm are AMAZING!!! In case you were wondering…

Laundry is done - time to assume the afghaning position and let my achy body de-achify.

Somebody tried to burn my house down yesterday, and I mean that quite litterally.

About 9:00AM i came home from my mom’s house. I noticed a cellar window had been kicked out and the screen torn away. My tenants saw me and came out to talk. They were awakened around 7:00AM and smelled smoke. After looking around they discovered the broken window, and after going into the cellar found burn twigs and leaves under the cellar window, and a strong smell of smoke on the first floor.

I called the police. The officer came, and after making observations called a fire investigator. The latter was a little peeved with my tenants because they hadn’t immediately called police or fire themselves, but oh well. We all were asked if there we had any arguments with neighbors or folks in the neighborhood, but no. We know our neighbors a little, but no problems we know of.

So the window is boarded up for now, but I’m going to be nervous for a while.

My mom came home Friday and I spent Friday and Saturday night with her, and will go to work tomorrow from her house, but then go home to my own. She’s feeling good, and her cat is happy, wants to be on her lap all of the time.

Then why were you complaining about no spoons? Thank you for explaining about the bottle to throttle.

Butters I have no words that aren’t swearing! I’m glad it’s didn’t work and I’m glad you’re ok. It sounds like kids. Adults would probably use gasoline and do a better job, sorry to say. Still, frightening.

I need me some education on pugs. My son is in love with them, and my husband is convinced it’s cruel to breed them, since they’re faces are al smashed in and they can’t breath, and they have bug eyes. I’m mediating. Those of you with pugs, any insight?

Happy for Doggio

Other than that dealing with the usual summer head cold. Damn my sinuses ---------- too late.

I got the worm bin cleaned out. That’s my big accomplishment for today.

Apparently avocados are a worm aphrodisiac because I threw a few empty shells and pits in over the last three months and I have never had so many worms in the bin as I just did. There were so many I stopped caring if some of them fell into the compost bag because I had already scooped eleven million back into the clean bin. A lot of worms found a new home in the gardens today.

WOW! Cupcakes - how scary!

And I thought my neighbors are assholes.

I don’t know if anybody said something to them, they were playing music again today but at a more tolerable level. I could hear it but not so loud I couldn’t hear my TV or have to worry about any callers hearing it.

Sunny - I like pugs. FCM can tell you more about them as HIggs and Cosmo are pugs. I never had one but I pet sat a few and they are nice, snorty, playful, and affectionate. I think though, you either love them or hate them. They are indoor dogs, because of the short nose they don’t do well in the heat.

Mackie was an ori pei which is a shar pei/pug cross. His parents were ori peis, his grandparents were ori peis, he was like 5th generation. He and his father were more like shar peis in temperament, but his mother was goofy and sweet like a pug.
Anyway, I was debating between a shar pei and a pug and decided on the shar pei because as difficult as they can be, I like their aloof and independent nature.

I think pugs are great for kids because they are so sweet.

I was surprised at how much pugs cost, more than a shar pei. All the breeders I found wanted between $2300 and $2800 for a puppy.

Pugs are popular, so nobody is going to stop breeding them soon.
I’d just make sure to go with a reputable breeder, but that can be said for all breeds.

Because they were all clean & the rest of the cheesecake batter was baking away in the oven & there was no more to sample/eat. Now the fridge has cheesecake everywhere…& I even gave a few of the little ones away this morning; to rave reviews.
Back from run & a beer. Since they had a popup beer garden & today is the last day in that location, I just had to partake. Up early, lotta activity today, one beer - tis nappage time; then grocery sto.

That’s just crazy!

Yikes baker, that’s scary!

I brunched with the heathens this morning. We had a good turnout. I took a roasted tomato/spinach quiche using farmer’s market tomates and herbs from the patio. I’ll make a ham and mushroom one this evening for supper.

I need to get breakfasts/lunches prepped and fold the load of towels and sheets from yesterday, but first, I’m going to chill here on the patio.

For the record, Higgs cost about $400, but she didn’t come from a formal breeder - rather a family who had a couple of pugs that they bred.

As for the squished in faces - yes, it can be an issue. My daughter’s pug is much more smashed in, and she has to pay special attention to the wrinkle above his nose because it gets infected. But I don’t think she’s had to deal with any respiratory issues.

Higgs isn’t as smooshed-in, and we’ve had no issues with her at all. Pugs are people dogs for sure - they like to be around people and, at least in our house, they develop a favorite - luckily, it’s not me. She’s smart, stubborn, and perfectly content as long as she’s got someone to hang with. She’ll also rassle with the cats and she gets along with other dogs once she gets to know them. Frankly, her worst feature is her tendency to bark at anything and everything she perceives as a threat. Like school buses, squirrels, passing vehicles, falling leaves, and wookalars. Her bark is particularly piercing and annoying, but a squirt bottle helps.

When you walk a pug, you need to have it in a harness rather than a collar - they don’t have much of a neck, plus there’s the whole breathing thing. And ours is a mutant - she HATES going in the car. My daughter’s pug, however, loves going in the car with her.

Biggest thing to be aware of - they ALWAYS act like they’re starving, which is why you see so many fat pugs. It’s really important to feed them the correct amount and no more. Higgs gets half a cup of kibble in the morning and in the evening, and a few little dog treats during the day. But she’d eat constantly if we let her. Daughter’s pug managed to get into the kibble bucket and he just about ate it all. She said his belly was so full, she thought he’d explode! And, of course come supper time, he was looking for more.

So there’s my pug opinions.

**Baker **- YOIKS!!!   That’s beyond scary! Hope the perpetrators get caught!

Poke chops are soaking in teriyaki marinade. Supper will be yum!

Speaking of pugs, just saw thison my FB feed.

If I ever decide to get a pug I’m talking to you first.
Four hundred is a whole lot better than $2300.

I dusted, vacuumed, swept the porch and sidewalk ,and went on a beer run. Enough adulting for one day.

:eek::eek::eek:
Glad it didn’t spread, Cupcakes.

sari, I’m just hitting the County Animal Shelter, when I get my next dog. $95 is better than $400.

CupCakes  Hope they catch whoever did this. Maybe the tenants will be more alert and think if it happens again. Glad you’re mom is happy at home. Glad kitty is happy to have mom home.

It has rained a little off and on all afternoon. ‘Tis been an afternoon of sloth and chill. Any need for food happens via foragin’. I foraged popcorn.

My last two cats have been shelter adoptees (the bird was a stray who adopted us). Mixed-breed animals seem to be generally healthier than pure-breds, and there are a LOT of shelter residents who need forever homes.

Baker – same kinda hopes from here. Fire is one of the few things that give me some fear.

Mucinex is slowly kicking in and I got some stuff for the F&I event done. Our garden isn’t doing as well as usual; some of our pepper plants just didn’t take replanting. I think it is root-shock due to how wets its been. Some replacements have been secured. If that doesn’t work I’ll probably switch to chickens ---------- I just have to check on how deep to plant them.
