I received this message from VLC today:
“No suitable decoder module:
VLC does not support the audio or video format “undf”. Unfortunately there is no way for you to fix this.”
Is this true? Can it be fixed?
Jake
The word “undf” means “undefined”. VLC can’t tell what format the video file is in. This generally means that when the file was moved or downloaded it either didn’t finish and so it’s incomplete or it’s otherwise corrupt. You’re probably not going to be able to fix it.
If it’s an AVI file and it’s saying the FourCC (four character code, a piece of metadata in the AVI container which tells the playback software what codecs the audio and video streams are) is set to “undefined.” So VLC has no idea what decompression library it’s supposed to use to play the file. If you know what compression format the audio and video are, you might be able to use an editor to correct the 4CC.
