How about offering a search link for Cecil’s columns from the forum pages, and a search link for the forums from the home page? Right now if I want to include a link to the Master’s words as the definitive answer to any question, I have to back out of the forum to the home page, search for the column, go back to the forum, find thread and add the linky.
Ditto if I just want to do a quick search for a particular thread or topic – I can’t look for it while I’m on the home page.
Just as an FYI, though it’s not entirely relevant, I only noticed recently that there’s a link to the main page at the bottom of every forum page. Way down on the right, in the blue bar, called “Straight Dope Homepage”. Can always right click on that and say “Open in new window” to make it easier.
Yes, I find opening another window (or tab, if you have the browser supporting that) is easy, quick, and gets the job done without the need for adding new links from pages all over the place.
I’ve mentioned this before in threads on similar topics…I an active poster here for well over a year before discovering the link to the ‘main’ page. Anybody who thinks that the entire populace of this place are here because of Cecil is mistaken.
