Grrrrrrr. [Warning: Rant ahead]
So we have a LOT of data here. One of our 1 terabyte servers regularly fills up. So they created a process to archive stuff onto cheaper, slower disk. We put the files into a folder called, appropriately enough, Archive and then a (supposedly) daily process picks up the files and moves them to the archive disk. Except that the daily process doesn’t actually run. So the 1 terabyte disk gets full about every two days. Today the idiots email everyone who uses that drive and said “There’s a folder out there called Archive that contains 266 G. That really needs to be cleaned out.” :smack: Um… YOU’RE supposed to clean it out by running the frickin’ daily process. ARGH! Why is this so hard?

Thank you for reassuring me that I don’t sound like Fran Drescher. I like the Helen Hunt comparison. I think in reality my voice must be a bit gravelly and that’s where the “Do you have a cold?” thing comes from. But I don’t really know because I can’t stand listening to recordings of myself. I say “um” and “uh” way too much and sound like a ditsy teenager. I don’t normally worry about this stuff, but when someone says something, it brings out all my insecurities. Thanks for reassuring me.
Good luck, rigs. I never drive in Boston under good circumstances (I love the T.), and I don’t envy you having to deal with traffic this weekend!
I used to live in Westborough, MA, so I know Framingham, too, **pugs **and vor.
Rollerblading last night was fun, but I was sooooooooooooore when I got home! I need new blades too if I’m going to do it at all regularly. Maybe I’ll try to hit up end-of-season sales.
All this talk of the Boston area brings me out of the woodwork, too. I learned to drive there! (lo, too many years ago…)
Rigs, it’s always sad to lose a pet like that We had a cat who did something similar – a black cat named Zorro, who came home one day after running away (long story) and died later that night – we’ll never know, but apparently he got a glancing blow from a car or something, and the internal hemorrhage killed him
**Bobbio **-- stay safe!
**Pugs **-- great news!
**Boo **-- good job on losing the kilos (pounds? stones? Eh, whatever… :D)
Pthbigididogothrhpgergt. Mr. Lissar is down with flu, and we’re fighting packing chaos. Less than one week, and also less than one week until we see our very best friends, who will be in town for a conference. They are very kindly bringing me a big bag of Trader Joe’s stuff. We’re going to spring their being godparents to the new kidlet on them.
We just watched the Torchwood Children of Earth specials, and I feel all cranky and depressed. It was really good, but not cheerful.
Oh, my, taxi, that would be frustrating! One of our vendors used to have Operations staff that would forget to run stuff from time to time and/or forget that there were really simple procedures (i.e. “call account manager” or “call lead developer”) to follow if something went wrong . Drove us crazy.
::waves at SO::
Hope the moving goes smoothly, LiLi. Do the future godparents suspect anything?
I’m forgetting someone/something…will catch up later, I hope.
I did not kill any of our customers today. It took great restraint.
Am contemplating what to have for dinner. Have already consumed some restorative chocolate. Low on pronouns.
rigs, hope your weekend isn’t too insane. But if it is, I hope you remember all the juicy details and share in the next MMP!
Go me!! I was the first member of my team to get my product thru Tech QA! YAY!! Take that, butthead who’s trashing me! So it was a good day at work.
**FCD **bought a new battery for the lawnmower, so I got the grass cut at last. We’ll be taking the mower in for service as soon as the mowing season is over - it needs the usual oil change and filter changes and the blades need to be sharpened. I figure it’ll be easier to get it done quickly in the fall than in the spring.
I’m watching Danny mainly because of winds. If it’s going to pass close, we’ll need to add some docklines to the boat. **FCD **will probably do that on the way home from work tomorrow - it’s just a small detour for him.
Just rushed in to say hi and bye. Yay on pugs for the good news! I still have to pack (and Daughter says she needs “some” of my suitcase). I just realized fully that I am going to be sleeping on the floor of a dorm Saturday night. I didn’t do that even in college and wasted out of my mind (and no matter how drunk, I always took off my makeup and put my eye cream on. Vanity is a great motivator!).
I don’t think I’m going to like this–I’ll prolly be a grumpy Rigs when I return.
At least Kennedy is already in Boston. And we leave for the Cape mid-day. Saturday morning traffic shouldn’t be too bad getting to BeanTown, but once there–may God have mercy on us all.
Have a great weekend, all–this reminds me that last year I did the MMP just after I got back from moving Daughter in the frosh dorm. It’s been a helluva year, no?
I hope you already have good posture, Puggy. That’s what I remember from vestibular rehab… Sit up straight! Hold your chin properly! Blah, blah, blah. Seriously, though, vestibular rehab was a tremendous help for me. I had been unable to drive for about 6 months before starting rehab and they ‘fixed’ me.
not in pic # 3, but yeah, a bit in pic # 4
In other news, my new pants, same style as the old ones, but a size smaller, are already too big - and I just took them out of the package this morning. Losing weight can get expensive!
I’m trying to use a program which sadly appears to be The program for its line of work. It can open files in many formats, but apparently it does it by treating other programs as plug-ins. So, it’s refusing to open .xls files cos “Excel is not installed.” No, but Open Office is, you idiotic piece of corporate software!
And they’re probably not even getting kickbacks from Microsoft…
Doesn’t The Program have some section under “Options” or something where you can tell it where external programs reside? (Like most or all web-browsers do)? Try looking for something like that.
Rigs, so sorry about Simon - he looked a bit like MrBusGuy’s Cuervo. Good luck in Boston. And good news, Puggy!
I’m a day or two behind, forgive me. Hope everyone enjoys their Friday. Good to see you too, SpecialOne, even if you and others …Dotty… are a leg up on the rest of us! Ok, I just about mistyped that as -keg-! LOL
Time to go … I’m abusing the smileys … where is Swampy when he’s needed?!
Mmmmms, good for you on deciding to lose weight. I do not belong to Weight Watchers, but essentially I have been doing the same things that they advocate, keep a strict count of calories. This can be fun, though, as if I want to eat a McDonald’s hot fudge sundae* for dinner, I can! (Or whatever thing that is a secret indulgence for you, as long as you know the calories, or points, you can plan it into your day.)
This morning at about 1 a.m. my dearest Gizmo Schnoodle woke me with a blood-curdling howl and started barking madly, apparently at nothing. I never got fully back to sleep after that and now I have a headache.
Ohhh-kay. I’m a bit freaked out right now. I just went to open the house and garage doors and I find that I forgot to close them last night. Perhaps Gizmo was barking at something after all, this is what freaks me out the most. :dubious: it doesn’t look like anything is missing, though.
Today’s rude awakening was brought to you by hubby’s unattended alarm clock and two dogs howling in unison. Ernie especially does not like the tone of Mr Rebo’s alarm clock! I did get back to sleep for an hour, so that’s good.
Going to the doctor at 10:00, followed by lunch after that. Sometime today I’ve got to swing by the office and pick up my glasses that I left there last night. Grr…
Happy Firday! I have been largely unproductive all day, for various good reasons.
I got a lie-in this morning because I had a follow-up appointment with the eye doc at the horsepickle so I was lazing at home for an extra hour and didn’t get into work until nearly 11am.
Then I had to go out and forage for lunch because we didn’t have any food in the house and I’d scoffed all the salad stuff I bought earlier in the week.
Then my friend came up to the office and I had tea and a natter with her - she bought the wrong type of dry food for her cat and he won’t eat it so she gave it to me and I will pass the three boxes onto another friend who helps out at a cat rescue centre.
Now I’m going to spend some time finding a home for bits of stationery as two people are leaving today and are busy clearing out their offices.
It never ends, does it?
ETA: That reminds me, remember the discussion earlier about whether to go on holiday to Barbados or New York? Well, unfortunately Barbados lost so we’ll be flying into New York on 17th Sept for five days. Better start looking for things to do/see now!
