Signed up a long time ago for NoMoRobo. But for some time it never seemed to do anything. I chalked it up to spammers using local prefixes not on their list. But people have posted here about how great it works.
Got two (presumably) spam calls earlier. Checked the numbers online and found that they were in NoMoRobo’s DB. So I did their test, I wasn’t protected. Went thru the set up instructions. Everything was kosher … until the very last step. Apparently I did a forwarding thing while on a trip and when I reset it, didn’t put it back the way it was. Did the test, protected!
Already have had one call blocked. Yippee!
(The local prefix issue has died down quite a bit since the latest law went into effect.)
I was able to successfully troubleshoot a problem I was having when ripping some old vinyl albums to mp3. Instead of stereo, I was only getting the left channel, but on both sides. By process of elimination, I narrowed it down to the Windows 10 USB driver that the turntable was defaulting to. Then after digging into the driver properties, I found that it was set to only a single channel for input. I changed it to two channels and that fixed it!
Of course now I have to go back and re-rip about 20 albums I had already ripped…
Been thinking about getting a UPS for the entertainment center, esp. for the DVRs. We get a lot of half-second power glitches.
Found one for cheap at a thrift store Tuesday. (Which is also senior discount day, hence me being there).
These usually only have a dead battery but I was concerned about there being something else wrong so I needed to test it. But without a working battery, it doesn’t … work. Don’t want to order a battery and find out it’s a goner.
I remembered a couple other UPSes I bought cheap a while back. These are those 12V Belkins the cable company gives out with their routers and somehow some of them wind up in thrift stores. Sometimes still in the original wrapper.
I checked and found that they use a similar battery. A really similar battery. Well, basically the same battery.
So I took a battery out of one of those and presto, working UPS. For a fraction of the cost of a new one.
(I got a little voltage converter doodad some time ago. Takes the 12V out of the Belkins and produces 5V with a USB connector. So, emergency charger with a lot of Amp-hours.)
