Baker, go with your leanings. If no one else describes the arrest of Cowd, I’ll do it in a little bit. Getting kind of tired of waiting, but maybe everyone else was waiting on me…
Hmmm… Let’s figure out a way to blend those two posts.
On second thought, let’s just go with Baker’s post. It was first, after all. And it advances the plot to the same place as mine would have, namely, Cowd in custody for clearly evident crime.
Work forward from Baker’s post.
It took me this long to realize I left out a word in post #109. In the paragraph in which the simian is telling Darson about how he will be smuggled off planet, the one line should read “since no Tharn authority is looking for you now.” Leaving out the “no” might confuse matters.
ivylass, I hope the way I worked with the Darson storyline was satisfactory to you, since you were the one who introduced the FFISH concept. Since I killed off Gr’Vinnia I wanted to see at least one person have a “happy ending”, or at least not be killed for something they can’t help.
Lute, I hope the way I had Sten act is the way you had envisioned the character. I hate screwing up someone else’s concept.
Close enough.
A minor note for everyone:
Just because we are moving into a court scene with Council doesn’t mean we are limited to only court scenes. There is always stuff going on ‘behind the scenes.’
Like what Corn is setting up. Welcome back, Mr Kotter.
:::wipes a tear from my eye:::
Good bye, Grivvy. May the Great Mother comfort and hold you…
That’s a cool idea, Corner.
Two nits, though…
Primal fear doesn’t seem to fit with the cold, calculating Xol who seems to be manipulating a region wide political/religious conspiracy for his own as yet unknown aims. Shucks, he was once friends with Open Mind. He’s not the joykilling Kel Tag was. And two, I need both him and Cowd in Council, please.
With that said…, man I loved your imagery. That is going to tie in the crystals as life forms idea you came up with so nicely!
The primal fear thing is just an instinctual reaction to something shocking. Like when you had him stumble in the hallway (post 72).
Xol is coming to Council in just a moment. He’s trying to kill Danielle and Soren and there is no way to stop him - unless he promised that he would appear in Council and the gong is sounding…
Maize
Yeah, never mind the nits. That actually gives his character a little more depth than just being a mean killing machine. I’m just trying not to merely anthropormorphise my violent rages into another hapless Kel. This guy has a plan… A cunning plan.
As for the when of Council, the Summons is for three days from when announced. Plenty of time to engage in some detective work or a little violence.
To make the simulpost fit, read post 117 as being before 116. It works that way, and I don’t have to lose another perfectly good post, esp one that deepens a major character. Sound good?
Sorry about forgetting the “You will present your cases before Council in three standard days.” I was thinking of a fix whereby the experiments happened three days hence and Xol summon’s could then be directly to Council. Other posts could then be a “Meantime, back at the ranch” kind of thing.
However, you put in a good save (though I hadn’t meant to have Xol incommunicado for so long). I’m thinking Xol’s surprise could be due more to his experience that - technology in the past often developed more slowly, so when a civilization started to connect to that other realm, Xol had more forwarning.
So, that’s how I did it. Allowed for some further insight into Kel and Forsetti, too. I’m sure that somehow, Wayre is going to be brought up in the Council’s Assembly. What with all the other religious stuff, it only seems inevitable.
Corner, I tend to think outloud a lot. Don’t let the nonsensical ravings of a lunatic mind bother you. I’m very glad you joined the secret society we have. Oops!
You know? I think you need to start and guide the next story. We’ve all done our stint as director execpt you. We can even set it up in the denoument of this one (like how the others were done without us even knowing we were doing it). Think about it.
Actually, confining Xol is going to be good for me. I’m now forced to write about something other than action. I’m wondering if the Voss are all united in their fatwa or if there may be dissenters.
Also, the simians, plants, and lights all seem to know something we don’t know. And no, I don’t know either.
I was also thing of having Han Solo* as transport for one or more of the Summoned. It’s not absolutely necessary, but it would cool to have him along somehow.
*you know who I mean.
Guide the next story? Oh man! I like playing off all these other great ideas - but actually starting and guiding one. Man, what if I screw up? Or flounder? Or just run out of ideas? Well, at least they haven’t noticed that I keep to my characters and don’t usually mess with theirs for fear of messing them up. At least they don’t know all these thoughts of mine. What to say; What to say …
But NoClueBoy, you’re so good at holding the story together.
YOU DARE REBUFF THE WISH OF LOKI OF KEL!?
Sorry, so hard to keep planes of existence straight, got a bit of a cold…
You’re wish looking a littele tarnished? Need it buffed do you? Or is it just the cold? Please step through here. Yes here, the door marked “Muspelheim”. You’ll be right as rain in no time.
Well, can’t get any experience without experience. Even though I’m nervous, I guess I can give the next story a shot. I’ll just let 'em stew for a bit.
Corner Case, at least I had it easy when I started FTSFS#1. All I did was throw it out there. And now, over a year and a half later, some of the same characters still exist. I never dreamed it would get this involved.
All you have to do is think up a good first post. It will take off on it’s own from there. You might have some vague plans for an outline. But as a military officer in a story I once read said, “No battle plan ever survives contact with the enemy.” The same thing will hold true for the story, because the other authors on board will surely end up taking it in directions you hadn’t thought of. If you have any ideas and need a sounding board, the rest of us authors would, I am sure, be glad to listen.
Read the first post Lute Skywatcher did for FTSFS#2, and NoClueBoy did for FTSFS#3. See how many things got set up in those episodes? That’s how it’s done. It doesn’t have to be long either, just leave 'em wanting more.
There’s plenty of time. We’re coming up to the holiday season, and I wouldn’t start one for a few months, folks won’t have the time. But January or February say, that could be good.
I think the idea of a seperate thread for discussion was a good one, I’d keep that.
All I know is that if and when we do another one, I am going to name a female human character with my grandmother’s first name. Grandma has her *100th * birthday in December, and besides, I like the name.
Corner, very much in character for what we’ve evolved Xol into. Love the condescending attitude!
I split off some of the Voss. Perhaps not all of them are such fundies, eh?
Isn’t it funny how our story is being shaped by our own beliefs and ideals in the real world?
Well, somewhat… (I wish I were a Kel. Or at least a courrier.)
