I’ll be starting Finish the Western III: A Murder in the Gulch around MLK Day. I recently got to thinking about giving the characters a “look”, like we did with the SciFi story. That’s what this thread is for, until the main story starts - at which time we can use it for continuity questions.
Here’s my thoughts:
Gus Anderson - Keenan Wynn in The Absent Minded Professor
Will & Paul Anderson - similar but with the personality of John Astin in “Night Court”
Jake Anderson - like Gus but nicer
Sam Anderson - Jeff Goldblum in Silverado
Slim McLeod - Patrick Swayze
Hank Poole - Brian Dennehy in F/X
Zeke Clayton - Michael Clarke Duncan
Judge Cotton - John Cleese in Silverado
Mose Doubletree - Lou Diamond Phillips, about 25 years older
Charlie Charging Bear - Brad Garrett
Sheriff Wilson - James Tolkan in Back to the Future Part III
Doc McCaulley - Paul Williams
Well, Gus is dead, so he can’t be in Episode III. And if I’m thinking of the right actor, I didn’t see Zeke as black. I mean, Gus was his grandfather.
I see Jesse as a younger Harrison Ford. And Belle…some stunning redhead, but nobody comes to mind. Will Santini, aka the Schoolmaster, Noah Wyle, maybe? (Has anyone heard from the real Will Santini?)
We’re setting this about what, five or seven years after Episode II? Sally Charging Bear should be a-courtin’ now, much to her father’s dismay, and Jesse and Belle’s daughter and Charley’s son should be inseperable, being born about six months apart or so. Jesse and Belle’s horse breeding ranch should be coming along just fine (are they into racing? Could be!) and Zeke should be settling in just fine with the sheriffing.
Thanks for the links…I need to catch up on everyone.
I envisioned Zeke’s grandmother as being at least mixed-race, which is why the relationship between her and Gus was so rocky. Zeke doesn’t have to be as dark as MCD but, in my view, the heritage is there.
I’d envisioned Slim as rather slender, not quite as buff as Patrick Swayze.
I like the idea of several years having passed, we could have some short backstories to fill in the time. But it couldn’t be much more than five years, if you want Sally to be courting. I think she was supposed to be fourteen. So much more than five years and she’d have made her choice I think, or at least not be under her parent’s thumb anymore.
I like the Zeke idea.
As for the women’s looks, well, I have pictures of them all in my mind, but no “names” to go with them.
Belle is a red-head of course, and I think she was supposed to be tall, according to early descriptions. Except for that, I must admit I “see” her with the same face as Kathy Channing, nee Swanson. Kathy is petite I think.
You know, I don’t think we ever mentioned her age. I’ve started composing the backstory for the past few years and gave Sally a boyfriend. Zeke’s new teenage apprentice, who moved down from Solace
I went back to the first story, and in post #15 it said Sally was “teenaged” Put that at just barely thirteen, then add a year or so for the second story, and Sally would then have been just fourteen, barely, maybe. But ages can be worked out. Maybe the apprentice is more of a journeyman, looking to start a business of his own? Good idea, though, a guy in town with a steady hand. Sally wouldn’t fall for a lazy guy I don’t think.
 Whoa! Good thing I saw this post. But, the 16th birthday thing in the story opening should’ve clued me in, huh?
So, I assume this will be the control thread? Anything you want to avoid or are eager to include at or near the start?
