If their goal is to spread terror then mission accomplished.

Or maybe they intend to kill children.
I suppose they’ll justify it because shes Ariana Grande.
to be honest, I’d actually feel bad if it was Sting or Simon Le Bon however I don’t believe Ariana or her fans ‘deserved’ it more. I still feel quite bad. Though I refuse to condemn the attack as ‘cowardly’ since that’ll give them more power.
Do you think an attack against governments is more justified provided it’s not towards civilians? (inb4 someone says that government workers are innocent civilians…not necessarily in my opinion)
It has long been held that the military and government that you are opposed to are fair targets. Civilians not so much.
Of course the “rules” for this are always malleable with a gigantic gray area. In the end both sides are able to rationalize their position. You kinda have to be able to rationalize it before you blow up a bunch of kids unless you are a literal psychopath.
Why would that justify it (in their minds)? I never heard of Ms. Grande before last night, is there some reason ISIS would have a particular reason to target her concert?
I doubt Grande is the target. Her concert is just a convenient gathering of people to target. Could have been Taylor Swift or Adele or anyone really.
So not terrorists, just overzealous music critics?
WTF are you ever talking about…???
WTF?
So do I, but that’s probably because I was in MIDDLE SCHOOL at the time.
Oklahoma City comes to mind…
DAESH would claim credit for a snow storm, if someone died in it.
Maybe this was them, but their piggybacking on every malcontent and homicidal asshole whom comes along is lame and sick.
Alex Jones thinks the victims deserved it.
I missed the part where he said they deserve it. Will you point it out for me?
Thanks!
You probably remember it because it also caused outrage.
Or do you remember other previously unknown people that long ago who were being joked about ?
He’s saying that the people who were attacked / killed were most likely those who would support open borders, and bringing in as many refugees as possible, regardless of vetting.
And, since the attacker’s parents were refugees, they (in some weird roundabout way) brought on this (and subsequent) attack(s) themselves.
Kind of the same thing “preachers” (Robertson and Falwell) said following the 9/11 attack. It’s always the same damn thing, from the same damn rightwing nutjob animals.
They’re not trying to protest oppression, or call attention to a cause they feel is just. They’re trying to do their part in advancing the narrative that the planet does not have enough room to house (what they see as) ISLAM and Western culture. Therefore, EVERY Muslim must fight the “infidel.”
But, since most Muslims get along fine with “infidels,” that’s not going to happen, unless they (DAESH) can persuade us infidels that Muslims can’t be gotten along with. Unfortunately, there is a highly vocal minority among us infidels that is only too happy to make common cause with DAESH in advancing THAT notion.
But if this was motivated by Islamist ideology, are there specific elements that might have influenced the choice of target? Was the notion of a crowd of predominantly young women acting “immodestly” or “inappropriately” a factor?
Was all, Grande seems to have more younger fans, as she started on Nickelodeon.
Nah, if it was that, we’d be looking for a group like Boko Haram (although they tend to target fellow Muslims). Pretty sure I got it right in post 36.
Isn’t the goal of ISIS to drag the west into an endless civil war in the middle east, bankrupting them?
If so, this would probably help with that. Making people enraged until they declare war on you fits into their plan.
But the world seems to have learned from Iraq not to engage in a large scale land invasion. The WoT seems to be best fought with aiding local anti-ISIS groups, special forces, drones, etc. rather than trillion dollar invasions.
If the UK and NATO wants to step up strikes on ISIS, have at it. Just don’t get involved in a land war in the middle east.
