A new obscure TV Trivia thread

B1 - Lovey Howell’s maiden name was Wentworth, IIRC

The Addams Family

  1. On “Concentration”, if you drew two wild cards on your turn, you made a third pick. You only got one prize, but revealed an extra piece of the puzzle. BTW, this was my absolute favorite game show until Jeopardy premiered.
Now, a follow-up for you: name the three hosts of the original “Concentration”.

  2. Eileen

  3. IIRC, it was Arthur Godfrey

Nobody answered this question, so I’m reposting it:

Q: Identify the speaker of this quote & what it pertained to: “The only thing red about her is her hair…and we’re not to sure about that!”

And Wants2Know correctly identified three of the four actors who played the Batman villains I mentioned. So -

Q: On the Batman TV series, who played the Black Widow?

Here’s a new one - Q: What original Not-ready-for-prime-time player on SNL quit/was fired before the series went to air (but became a regular on the series several years later)?

:smack: The Black Widow was played by Tallulah Bankhead.

And I believe the answer to the other question is Bill Murray.

Correct.

Sorry. Please try again.

I know Billy Crystal was scheduled to perform on the first show, but got cut out. Is this what you’re referencing?

Billy Crystal? Although I don’t think he quit/was fired; I think he failed to make the cut at the last minute.

Yes it’s who I was thinking of. He did make the cut, and would have given a ten-minute standup routine on the first show (like Andy Kaufman did). But his managers had a falling out with SNL’s folks and he ended up not going on. Up until about an few hours before the show went on air, he was scheduled to be on it.

Four, actually: Jack Barry, Hugh Downs, Ed McMahon, and Bob Clayton.

Thanx

Some unanswered questions:
37. $25.00. (!)
39. Joseph Campanella. (And a giant computer.)
40. They were “a” and “z.”
Yes, 42. was Eileen (Randy Stuart).

  1. **Benson: ** What two left-handed female actors were in the cast?

I will guess Didi Conn and Inga Swenson. This is only a guess. Trivia: Inga Swenson got the role of Krauss because she was the only auditionee who picked up the script (cold reading) and read it in a German accent. Nobody was told to and the writers hadn’t even considered it.

  1. **Major Dad: ** What was the name of the insufferable Marine second lieutenant?

I knew this one but had to look up the spelling: Holowachuk. The same actor played an almost exactly opposite character (cruel, smartass, agressively macho) in Biloxi Blues.
54. And who talked about “walnettos”?

Artie Johnson as Tyrone. One of the funniest things I ever saw on one of that epidemic of blooper and outtake shows from the 80s/90s were “can’t show that on television” excerpts from his sketches with Ruth Buzzi. Johnson always improved his entrance as Tyrone singing some song and the lyrics were hysterical (“Did you ever make love to a pine tree and get yourself caught in the sap” was one that I remember; some were bleeped and invariably Ruth Buzzi wound up on the stage floor laughing.)

  1. **Ed Sullivan Show: ** What was the name of the ventriloquist who had a talking head in a box?

Señor Wences, who was still performing to sold out audiences when he was over 100 years old.

  1. **Beverly Hillbillies: ** What comedian played Mr. Drysdale’s stepson?

Louis Nye.

  1. **Dobie Gillis: ** Where could Dobie usually be seen sitting at the start of each episode?

In front of a statue of The Thinker in the city park.

NEW QUESTIONS:

  1. Benson: how did Governor Eugene Gatling’s wife die? (Hint: it involved horses, but not horseback riding.)

  2. What was the name of Joel Fleischman’s identical twin brother on Northern Exposure and why was he only seen in one episode?

  3. Mama’s Family- what was the name of Vint and Naomi’s High School and, closely related, what was their team mascot?

  4. Bernard Fox as Dr. Bombay made an appearance on Tabitha, the awful and short-lived “spin-off” (not really) of Bewitched. Who were the only other two Bewitched cast members to appear as the same characters on Tabitha?

  5. Hogan’s Heroes: Of Corporal Lebeau, Colonel Klink, Sgt. Schulz and General Burkhalter, who was the only one portrayed by an actor who did NOT spend time in a Nazi concentration camp in real life?

  6. On St. Elsewhere, what mix-up by a stoned employee caused the death of Dr. Craig’s mother-in-law?

I remember Caroline McWilliam (The Governor’s earlier press secretary) and Missy Gold (Katie).

Sgt. Schulz (John Banner), I bet. (I saw him in at least one episode of Perry Mason.)
A few more new questions of my own:
71. **CBS Evening News: ** What CBS correspondent was the son of a famous writer (and had almost the same name)?
72. **Wheel of Fortune, ** B. V. (Before Vanna): what baseball player’s name was put on the board but stumped the contestants, even with only one letter remaining?

Heywood Hale Broun, Jr. ?

Richard Dawson.
