A new obscure TV Trivia thread

Harvey Korman

What state was Bilko’s base in?

The joke was funny because John Amos (who played James Evans, her husband) played Kunte Kinte as an adult. IIRC, he left the series somewhere around that point to pursue a movie career or was gone for an extended period to make the mini-series.

  1. Joan Collins
  2. Ethel Merman
  3. Carolyn Jones
  4. Liberace (also played Chandell’s evil twin brother “Fingers”)

And one more chance at my unanswered ones(with hints):

W1. On the final season of “Coach”, what was the name of the NFL team Hayden Fox coached? (City does not have an NFL team)
W2. And who played the owner? (Veteran of 2 other successful sitcoms on the same network)
W3. On “Blackadder”, which episode did Hugh Laurie guest star in the season before he played Prince George? (2nd season, one word title, “goblins”)
W4. Who played a recurring character on The Brady Bunch and The May Tyler Moore Show ? (and probably helped both shows jump the shark)
W5. On Comedy Central’s Sports Monster , which MLB team did Joe Bolster formerly play for? (No longer exists as that team)?

The Orlando Breakers, and Katherine Helmond played the owner.

Based on your hint, I’m going to take a WAG and say Robbie Rist. He was Cousin Oliver on The Brady Bunch, and I have a vague recollection of him being on a few episodes of The Mary Tyler Moore Show, but I can’t remember who he played or anything about him.

Robbie Rist (Cousin Oliver/The Baxters’ kid)

Right, right and right!
Robbie Rist played Ted and Georgette’s adopted son David. He was actually good in one particular ep–when he was being a total brat and Ted decided to spank him–and of course went to Lou’s office for advice:

Ted: Lou, I need your office, I wanna spank my kid!
Lou: No, you don’t.
Ted: Yes, I do! You got a hairbrush?
David: What would he be doing with a hairbrush?
Lou(after angry pause): Go ahead, spank him!

In a recent interview he said he was basically fired. (For 25+ years he’d let it be said he quit.) Norman Lear basically got tired of him constantly complaining about the character and the show and threatening to storm off if they didn’t let James catch a break and stop making JJ such a buffoon, and he let him go. It didn’t greatly hurt Amos who has never stopped working, and I think he was totally justified in his complaints about the show (as was Esther Rolle who left of her own accord when her contract was up but came back a year later due to $).

What long running BBC series about a black barber did John Amos star in several unsold pilots for in an American version PRproduced by Eddie Murphy?

W3 “Chains” He played the German Master of disguise, who wound up displacing Miranda Richardson’s character.

I like to pretend that this is why the Prince Regent looks so much like him.

There’s no pretense necessary–how do you think the royal line suddenly became German?

And, for the record, I had forgotten about that one. I was thinking of “Beer”, where he played one of the guests at the drinking party (“sounds a bit…RUDE, doesn’t it?”). So I guess you got me on that one!

The “Sports Monster” question is probably too obscure–the answer is the Montreal Expos.

Follow up: who pretended to be Homer’s father in one episode?

Grandpa’s lab and the dragon.

A bicycle horn (I think- I can almost see it but not quite).

Comet.

b. the circus fat lady

“And now, here’s that Oscar-winning rabbit, Bugs Bunny!”

This was driving me crazy! Was it Eileen?

Thing was the hand character on The Addams Family. Spot was the name of the Munster’s pet under the stairs.

Spot, their pet dragon

And Grampa Munster’s lab was accessed by a trap door in the parlor, not by the stairs under the stairs.
