The woman apparently clarified her statement about killing the young man because “his name sounded Jewish”. Instead, he was collateral damage in a race war:

“It’s unfortunate he was a white man, but (the killing) was to facilitate further action,” Grigsby said in a jailhouse interview published by the Appeal-Democrat in Marysville, Calif. “In every war, there are going to be civilian casualties, and he was one of them.”
