You know, people, the straight supremacists aren’t really worth arguing with. They know, deep down, that their arguments make no sense whatsoever. They’re aware of their hypocrisy; it only makes them angry at the world. They’re closed, tight wads of flesh, desperately clinging to any ideology that will make them feel superior to someone, anyone. Otherwise they may have to face themselves, and the hateful, fearful bigots they really are.
Arguing with them can be entertaining, granted. It’s fun to watch them trot out the same dreary arguments every single freaking time, and then act all martyred when their bizarre reasoning is shot down with alacrity by rational people who’ve heard it all dozens of times before. But there are other tools to use; ridicule, I think, is going to be big for a while. Anger responds to anger, but doesn’t know how to deal with being laughed at. And you gotta admit, these eejits are funny.
I’m through treating them as if they have anything worthwhile to say on the subject of gay rights, just as I’d never get into a political debate with a five-year-old. They’re not going to understand your arguments, and they’re not going to change their minds. Contempt is the only emotion they rate, and they barely rate that.
They live for your outrage; like a monkey flinging its feces at passers-by, they hurl their excrement all over the boards to get your attention, to make them feel as if they have affected you. Arguing with the monkeys just makes them fling more shit.
I advocate a program of ridicule. Point, laugh, and make fun, and maybe, if we’re lucky, they’ll head back to their little lairs and we’ll be left to love each other as we will.
Well, depending on how literally one wants to read the Bible, you could use 1 Corinthians 14:34-35 as an example.
If one wants to know what the Bible (read literally) says about homosexuals, one can pick up the thing and read it. It doesn’t need to be posted constantly.
It might help to be tactful when you’re trying to spread the Gospel.

I hate to break it to you, but God gave your post a C-. You really need to work on your coherence, as well as your bibilical interpretation skills. You can, however turn in some genuine caring for your fellow human beings for extra credit, if you want to pull your grade up.

I wouldn’t bet on it. You’d be surprised what people are allowed to post; the mods are (thankfully) pretty big on free speech and open debate around here. A thread that said “All [whatever] must die!” would be closed in a New York minute, but a thread that opened [whatever – racism, homophobia, the inferiority of women, the superiority of the Tug Ahoy[sup]TM[/sup]] up to debate would likely be allowed. That’s because the Teeming Millions do a credible job of exposing bullshit when they see it.

No one ever said this. No one.. What THYCALINE asserted (wrongly, IMO) is that homophobia is tolerated here when racism is not. She never said H4E had anything to do with racism; she said H4E’s statements about homosexuality are akin to statements a racist might make about persons of another race. This is twice you have totally misrepresented what other posters have said regarding H4E in your zeal to defend her. This puzzles me. I know you’re a smart guy; why do you do that?

How interesting that you cite only part of that powerful passage from Mark – and not, IMO the important part. The entire passage says:
Mark 22:28-34. Allow me to point out a couple of things to you here: First, the commandment Jesus quotes ("Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God is One . . . ") is an OT commandment. Deut. 6:4-5. To that OT commandment, Jesus adds the NT commandment: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. This is not as important as loving God, but it is pretty darn close. Jesus says "There is no commandment greater than these – meaning both of them. The man to whom He speaks also reinforces that both commandments are of extreme import, and they are linked together.
Second, both the OT and the NT command that we love God not just with our hearts but with our minds and with our understanding. I would respectfully suggest that blindly following the printed word with no care to what it might really be intended to mean, and with no care to how it may affect your brothers and sisters and neighbors, is not really following this commandment at all. God does not want sheep. Faith is not the same as unthinking adherence to dogma.
Third, since when does loving God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength mean that it’s okay to alienate your neighbors from His love by taking it upon yourself to judge them? The love of God does not require the spiritual condemnation of men – even if that was your perogative, which it is not.
So maybe you and H4E ought to re-read this passage in Mark and think about it, before you presume to correct JAR on what is an essentially correct point.
