A parting gift for the homophobes

Hey, way to assume the conclusion, H4e! And way to avoid the question I posed too! Try to set aside the theology for a moment and answer the darn question for a change: Can you make yourself sexually attracted to another woman?

 Actually, yes that’s putting too much strain on things but I’ll try to answer anyway. IMO even if gays were given the right to marry by the government, it would still be wrong because I believe His word says it’s wrong. So allowing gays to legally marry, wouldn’t change anything IMHO.

Marriage is considered that under a legal context in the United States. There are other countries where gays can marry too. I guess there are many meanings, aren’t there?

I have no idea if I could or not. I highly doubt it. That being the case, I do believe that people of the same sex can have feelings for each other and the feelings themselves aren’t necessarily wrong but the actual act of sex with the same sex is. Or any sex outside of marriage. If the emotional feelings turn to lust, however, I believe that would be wrong just as when a man looks on a woman to lust after her, he’s already committed adultery in his heart.

“For whatsoever you did to the least of my children, you did to me.” Remember who said that? “Sorry, but I’m not renting to any faggots or fornicators!” Oh, so proud of you Jesus will be! You showed those sinners! You go!

Of course, it’s really easy for a Christian, whose choice of religion is protected against discrimination by the First Amendment to the United States Constitution, to argue in favor of housing discrimination on the basis of who is putting what body part where. How . . . convenient. Don’t the principles of justice and equal protection pretty much demand that you be in favor of giving homosexuals the same legal protections you enjoy?

Before you answer (and don’t even thinking about whipping out “this is a Christian country,” because you will get taken to school, big time) consider that your friend Paul the Apostle tells you to follow the laws of your earthly governments. (Romans 13:1-2)

So, on that basis of what you believe, people should be denied rights. What an amazing specimen of your faith you are.

Is “judge not lest ye be judged” COMPLETELY ALIEN to you?

Bugger. Guess we’re all doomed then. (Oh, I’m presuming it’s also sinful for a woman to lust after a man.)

And what would you call someone who is sexually attracted to a member of their gender? I.E. me being attracted to, say, Homebrew. What would I be if I were attracted only to men?

Oh. One other question while I have your attention (and thanks for answering the last one). If the church of which you are a member re-evaluated its stance on sexuality and intercourse and all such things and decided it was perfectly natural and okay and part of God’s plan for people not only to be gay, but for men to marry men and for women to marry women, and if the people from whom you draw your conclusions agreed with their reasoning, would your stance change?

And a final comment … a very important thing that almost slipped my mind … “it would still be wrong because I believe His word says it’s wrong.”

Progress, folks. Not “it would still be wrong because His word says it’s wrong”. She believes His word says it. Which is another way of saying (unless I’m reading this wrong) that she could be wrong.

It isn’t hopeless:) Unless, of course, I was reading too much into that, in which case I think I’ll just slump in my chair for a while.

Excuse me, but if this good Christian refused to rent to someone because they were homosexual wouldn’t that mean they were passing judgement on them? Jesus may not have spoke about homosexuality but, he did have quiet a bit to say about passing judgement.

Hey, great. Now we’ve established that you believe orientation is not a matter within the individual’s ability to control. I feel like we’re making a little progress here.

So, why do you think God would create people who are sexually attracted to people of the same sex–and keep in mind, these are people who cannot simply decide they want to boink people of the opposite sex, as you’ve now conceded–yet simultaneously prohibit them from ever, under any circumstances, acting on that sexual attraction?

Hey, 'punha, how’re you doing?

His4ever, try as I might to hate people like you, I can’t. I pity you. Following such bizarre codes of conduct, hating and fearing all that are different and don’t conform to your narrow belief structure seems so limiting. There’s so much more out there in this world. There is so much diversity and beauty out in this world and to condemn it because it differs from you is sad. If it is not hurting anyone, what business is it of yours what someone does or doesn’t do.

You might want to take an opportunity to concentrate on bettering your own life and your community than taking a stand against those who differ. But that’s just my opinion.

Sorry, there’s no more room at the inn.

Wait a minute here. If I owned an apartment complex you think I should be responsible for what goes on inside every single apartment? You’re saying I would have to turn away people for being gay or being a young couple in love who want to live together? What about people who smoke pot or cheat on their taxes? What about women who have had abortions? What about the people that look at dirty magazines or use curse words?

What exactly would you say to these people? “I’m sorry, God says I can only rent to non-sinners”? If that was the case I couldn’t live there either!

C’mon His4ever, you can’t be serious?

dreamer, I’m starting to think you’re going to be a positive addition to the boards.

And it only took me 980 posts to get you to say that

I meant to add a **Thank You ** in there too

I assume by this you mean one of two things -

  • Every post on the subject of gays must begin with a ritual renunciation of whatever wrongdoing might have been committed by those on your side. Gay posters must start by condemning homosexual rape, gay pedophilia, and unsafe sex; others by condemning political activism against gay rights. Or

  • Every post has to begin by agreeing with you.

Otherwise posters are not entitled to be treatly fairly, and are subject to guilt by association, accusations that they have said things they have not said, that any disapproval of their actions constitutes endorsement of violence against them, etc.

Not a point I can agree with. Even in the Pit.

Regards,
Shodan

Foistly, dreamer, you’ve made it to my list of deeply religious posters that I respect.
Nextly, His4ever, you’re a low person. Re your apartment suggestion: I propose that we as a soceity enact a boycott against letting any straight supremacists utilize any products or services that we (the non-idiot sector) control. They have the right to tell the homosexuals that they can’t sleep in the apartments they own. Why don’t we simply say that they have no right to eat the food we grow, the cars we build, the computers we manufacture?
Of course, we are the non-idiot sector of the population, so we’re not about to do this. Still, it would do my heart good to have straight supremacists starving in the streets.

Hi4Ever- you said back on page 2, that " even though people here takes your words as hate, that doesn’t make it so."

So…though you say homosexuals are sinners only because of their homosexuality, then that doesn’t make it so either.

vanilla-who is thinking of resigning from Fundieworld.
