The problem with this excellent analysis by the well-regarded economist Jeffrey Frankel is that it ignores the new reality guiding the Republican Party: that they no longer need votes.
All they need to gain and remain in power is a newly-passed law that permits their state legislature and/or election officials to declare “fraudulent” any election in which a Democrat gets more votes. From the Electoral College on down to county offices, Republican “winners” can now be guaranteed.
With perpetual one-party rule, elections become mere theater, and voters are irrelevant.

Yes, the courts in the post-McConnell/Trump-appointees era definitely cannot be counted on to care about the USA remaining a democracy.
There were some outrageous nominations, but there were also some decent (but conservative) selections. Not my choice, for sure, but not stupid and corrupt like Trump.

Currently he’s trying to blame the Florida virus surge on immigrants. With zero evidence, of course.
As has been pointed out elsewhere, Florida does have a long unwalled border with Mexico. The Gulf of Mexico, anyway.
I also heard him say that the number one thing the citizens of Florida had going for them was “natural immunity”. What a dumb fuck. He sounds like a shoe in (shoo-in?) for the Republican nomination.
At the rate he’s going killing off his own voters… it would be ironic if he lost by just a bit - enough that it could be said that he would have won if he had not deliberately killed his supporters.
