On 5 November, 2021, the Democratic Party formally conceded the end of democracy and perpetual one-party rule to the Republicans, due to a fixed belief that voters would forgive obstructing the passage of any and all bills on the basis that “Joe Manchin and Kyrsten Sinema are breathing on me, Dad!!!”.
The particular delusion–that 2022 voters would hold Democrats harmless for their failure to pass ANY bills, and instead blame M&S–has been classed by historians as among the most pathological in human history.
That what you were looking for? I mean, it IS sad for most of humanity that the Democrats are so delusional.
Yeah, the Progressive Caucus does seem to be (unintentionally, we will kindly assume) acting as enablers for the horrifyingly-stupid-yet-ruthless Rulers in Waiting.
But we can go on with our kind assumptions and posit that all who will live in post-democracy America will be suffering—even Donald and his unholy minions.
Meh. From here it looks as though a number of people are all caught up in the glamour of wielding power, aka “leverage,” and have become contemptuous of compromise—aka the only way things get done in Congress.
There is stabbing happening, probably–a fair amount of character assassination for the purposes of wresting the Speakership away from Pelosi, to name one arena of knife-wielding.
But mostly it’s people lost in their Braveheart fantasies: I am the savior of the American People! I must stand firm for their sakes! I am noble and pure! etc. etc. etc.
Tell me about the compromise being offered to the Left on their priorities, for example on climate change.
At the moment it seems to me that the compromise would be “nothing,” except that the centrist faction will not even deign to articulate their counter proposal.
***instead of passing nothing, Congress passes SOMEthing
***Voters decide voting for Democrats is therefore worth getting off the couch; they do so in the 2022 elections, resulting in Dem wins
***The House and Senate remain under Democratic control, post-November 2022–very possibly rendering Manchin and Sinema irrelevant, if luck is with us
***With two more years to get substantial environmental and social-program improvements passed, Congress does so, and we are all better off.
The alternative: “All or nothing” results in NOTHING.
You are also offering NOTHING since these conditions will also exist next time, the time after that, and throughout the future. There will always be a next election that is vital to win. Leftist policies and priorities have no place in the two party system
Biden: Let’s vote for BBB and BIF!
Pelosi: Let’s vote for BBB and BIF!
Progressives: Let’s vote for BBB and BIF!
6 Conservative Dems: No.
Media: Progressives threaten to tank BIF!
The Democratic Party is being wagged by 3% of the dog.
I don’t understand why people post cryptic one liners.
Here’s my take: This thread is not about what @Sherrerd brought up. This thread is about those who sided with Trump getting their comeuppance, linked for our enjoyment. This is not the thread for “Trump is the Democrat’s fault.” And it’s definitely not the thread to be discussing the recent election’s results. This is a thread for coming together, not splitting us apart.
In general, this sort of incrimination of allies is not helpful to coming up with a plan on how to move forward. We are required to work together on this, so making either the side defensive is the dumb move.
So the smart thing to do would be to open up a thread outside the Pit and discuss our options civilly, and leave this thread as a place where all of us can come together and enjoy the karmic justice handed out to Trump and those who supported him.
This is not the place to hash out whether X is the liberals or progressive’s fault.
The bipartisan bill passed the House overnight, after assurances (finally) that they’d get support and a vote on the BBB plan. If that passes too, then the progressives will have turned out to be pretty smart, ISTM.
I, like many, was cheered by that news. However it all seems somewhat abstract until one of these boyos faces some consequences for failing to show up (a la Steve Bannon) or for failing to respond to questions (a la Jeffrey Clark).
Still, nice to see Flynn and Jason Miller and the others placed on the griddle. We’ll see if it ever heats up enough to inspire cooperation.
