Trump apparently reacted to his minions’ failure to keep in him power by threatening to start his own party with blackjack and hookers:
In an angry conversation on his final day as president, Donald Trump told the chairwoman of the Republican National Committee he was leaving the GOP and creating his own political party – and that he didn’t care if the move would destroy the Republican Party, according to a new book by ABC News Chief Washington Correspondent Jonathan Karl.
Trump only backed down when Republican leaders threatened to take actions that would have cost Trump millions of dollars, Karl writes his upcoming book, “Betrayal: The Final Act of the Trump Show.”…
The way I interpreted that article (from the excerpt I posted just above), I thought it was sort of the opposite: Trump’s campaign owned and controlled the massive list in question, and rented it to other GQP candidates at exorbitant cost. But if Trump left the party, that list would then become useless, costing Trump all the profit that he could have continued making from it. Or something like that.
Yes, I think this has to be it. If the RNC owned the list, how could Trump be selling it?
Still, it’s a bit of a head-scratcher. If Trump started his own party it would presumably be supported by many (if not most) of the people on The List—so he’d be able to go on selling the list to candidates who decided to run under the Trump Party banner. They’d be appealing to the same basic type of voter.
Anyway, thanks to those who posted such swift answers to my question! (The part about RNC declining to go on paying legal costs for Trump does ring very true as something that would scare him.)
That surprised me. Why in hell is RNC paying Trump’s idiotic legal costs? Does this refer to all the bogus suits filed between the election and January? Who pays for all that shit anyway?
As per this article from almost exactly a year ago,
My guess is that if Trump ceases to be a Republican, the RNC ceases to spend its legal account funds to support his campaign lawsuits. Presumably the RNC also ceases getting a cut from Trump PAC donations, but IANA campaign finance expert.
We’ll see if anything comes of more subpoenas. Bear in mind Bannon openly blew off his subpoena and was referred to the Dept of Justice for prosecution. That was three weeks ago and not a damned thing has happened. One gets the impression that the days when congress had any actual authority are over.
