As someone who is neither an accountant nor a lawyer but just some joker on the internet who is willing to spout off on things he knows nothing about, I would guess that the records related to the accounts could be subpoenaed but the ones related to legal advice could not.
The easy and obvious answer, of course, but . . . How scrupulously would such a lawyer/accountant maintain strict separation of legal and accounting documents? What if he writes a memo giving some legal advice on some accounting question? How assiduously compartmentalized can it be?
I think if it was just pure numbers, here is my clients tax return, here are their receipts etc. they’d be pretty safe.
