The calculation for a doubling penny is:

Depends on the exact terms of the deal. @DesertDog mentioned “Do the ol’ chess board thing” several posts above. In that scenario, the total amount after each day is the amount on the latest square PLUS the amounts on all the previous squares – it’s cumulative. If Trump were to be fined an increasing amount each day, that would presuably be how it would work: Each day he’d have to pay a new larger fine, but he’d still have to pay all the previous days’ fines too.
If you started with $0.01 on Day 0 and doubled the amount each day, the cumulative total on Day n would be 2n+1 - 1 cents, or (that)/100 dollars.

I’m perfectly willing to hate anything connected to TFG, but before I saw the picture, what I imagined from your “fugly” comment was far worse than that. I actually think it’s rather restrained, considering some of the tastelessness TFG is associated with.
