I’m with you. I’d love to see the whole gang of morons run out of town. Plus, I’d like to see an actual trial.
Both work.
It was announced earlier today that neither Mark Meadows nor Dan Scavino will be charged by the DOJ for failing to comply with the House subpoenas. While this may not seem to fit the Schadenfreude theme, the details say a lot about the asshole Navarro. Meadows and Scavino were in a complicated situation and had good grounds for claiming executive privilege on some of the documents sought, but more importantly, they did make good-faith efforts to work with the Jan 6 committee and supplied at least some of the requested information. Navarro did absolutely nothing, and openly defied the committee with no grounds whatsoever. The fucker deserves to be in jail, where I sincerely hope he ends up.
This picture should be in the dictionary under the definition of “asshole”. He perfectly looks the part.
If his red tie goes down mid-thigh like his ex-boss’s, yeah, I’d have to agree.
I’m less certain of this being the case, given the way the Committee responded to the “no consequences for Meadows or Scavino” news:
They seem to have some doubts that the cooperation occurred in good faith.
As some have said, DOJ is unlikely to share its criteria (for letting Meadows and Scavino skate) with the public—but it would make good sense for them to share those facts with the Committee. I hope they do so.
He had some rather extreme views on China. After Trump put Jared Kushner in charge of most of US foreign policy, he saw Navarro’s book Death by China while doing an Amazon search looking for random books on foreign policy. Because he liked the title he had Trump offer Navarro a job. I have no idea if Jared ordered or read the book.
The thing is, there’s a lot of “well, maybe” about that. They did cooperate with the committee to some extent, until they didn’t. It’s unclear how much was in “good faith”, given that they also resisted some of the committee’s requests (arguing immunity or privilege or somesuch). Then when the committee got a little too close to something sensitive, they clammed up.
The choice by the DOJ to let them off seems to be because they were somewhat cooperative, in contrast to Bizarro. So there may be a message there.
If I were Ruler of the Universe, I’d have suggested to indict them, convict them of as much as possible, and then suggest some relatively lenient sentences; meanwhile, throw the book at Navarro.
ETA: The above opinion isn’t meant to cover the whole story of course. Meadows seems to have been deep in the thick of the whole plot. There may well be plenty more to indict him on, and put him away for a long long time.
I hope the committee subpoenas DOJ agents to ask them their reasoning, even if it’s in secret.
That might be the only way the Committee could ever get that information (via subpoena).
The fact that the Committee continues to ask to be briefed seems (to me) to be a broad hint that the theories that Meadows and/or Scavino are singing to DOJ about Trump are pure wishful thinking. See this thread for more:
People’s Convoy crestfallen when promise of a 100 foot Subway sandwich turns out to be another Antifa hoax.
Y’know, he says he’s very wealthy, but he still keeps asking me for money…
With tears in his eyes?
Proud Boys leader and top members charged with seditious conspiracy over January 6.
Looks like one of them flipped. He’s not amongst those charged.
Very awesome. More to come, I expect.
More to say:
It’s worth noting there is no higher or stronger charge that could be brought against these defendants. It’s a very high bar. Their proof must be pretty solid.
And since it’s alleged as a conspiracy, there are quite a few others who can be tied into these same charges.
My prediction: Next up, Bannon, Flynn, Eastman and…?
“You sure they won’t know it’s me that flipped?”
“No. You will only be identified as INFORMANT ONE.”
“OK. Well, let me tell you my story…”
(six months later)
ALL PROUD BOYS LEADERS, EXCEPT ONE, INDICTED.
This was never going to be a secret, and I’m sure Donahoe was made aware of this.
After all, he is going to have to testify in court as well as depositions and all the stuff the FBI has been wringing out og him.
He also entered pleas of guilty to other charges clear back in April. From the DOJ’s website:
Relevant text:
A sixth defendant, who was earlier charged with the group, pleaded guilty on April 8, 2022. Charles Donohoe, 34, of Kernersville, North Carolina, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to obstruct an official proceeding and assaulting, resisting, or impeding officers.
Believe me, all his cohorts knew from that day forward what was up.
Lately I’ve not been in a very good place regarding the general condition of the world. Somehow, now I feel a little lighter.
The fact that the charges have been laid against relatively ordinary citizens is just fine with me. There is no appearance of political revenge-taking, and it just might give pause to some of the other ordinary citizens who think (or thought) that January 6 was such a great idea.
