Former President Donald Trump “is livid” and “screaming at everyone” after many Republican candidates backed by him underperformed in Tuesday’s midterm elections, an advisor to Trump told CNN…
DeSantis — whom Trump endorsed when he first ran for office — was one of the few GOP successes on election night…
The CNN article is here, but it’s in the fast-moving ‘Live Updates’. (Unless the URL links right to that part.)
If you watch the interview, he gives a smile when he says it that makes it pretty that clear its just a little self deprecating joke… until he then proceeded to double down on this idea and complain that the media would do the opposite.
An intelligent man could frame that in a perfectly reasonable way: “I gave them the tools to win: my endorsements, my fundraising network, my personal support. If they lose, it’s because they didn’t know what to do with the advantages I delivered.”
So far, his strategy seems to be to insist HE had a great night, because so many of his candidates won……I assume he’s including every candidate in deep red states where the outcome wasn’t in doubt. In fact, no politician in history has ever had a greater night than Trump did yesterday, and no will talk about it.
I’m going to walk back this prediction, because I forgot about his stupid rallies, which are his oxygen.
Midterms are done, so he can’t claim to be campaigning for someone else when he holds a rally. And unless he declares his candidacy, I don’t think he can legally campaign for himself. I guess he could call it an OWN THE LIBS concert, and spend a couple of hours on stage spewing conspiracy theories, performance art style.
But he wouldn’t be able to talk about how great he is and how he should be President again. Well, he might…..he might employ his typical strategy of thumbing his nose at the law…but his lawyers might convince him to just go ahead and declare.
I do think he’ll postpone the announcement until after the GA run-off, because he can hold stupid rallies for Walker all month, and he’ll get his rally fix.
Then he might take a break for the holidays, because Mar-A-Largo will be hosting lots of parties, and he’ll be able to get adulation at all of them. I predict he’ll announce sometime in January. Although I might regret changing my mind,
Probably not unfortunately, last time he was still butt hurt and pouting over the fact that the GOP didn’t back his bid to steal of the election, so he called for a boycott. This time it’s his boy (with all the racist connotations that word engenders) on the ballot, so he will come out strong in favor of Walker.
Whether it will be enough will remain to be seen. (hopefully not)
