A Perfectly Reasonable Amount of Schadenfreude about Things Happening to Trump & His Enablers (Part 1)

It is indeed. God bless America!

Home of the land and the range!

I’m hoping it’s a sign that Trump is slowly fading away from the public consciousness, like a particularly pungent cloud of flatulence in a windowless room.

“From the desk of Donald J. Trump” is reminiscent of “Mr. Burns’ Casino”.

Sex appeal. And a catchy name.

Great, now I’m thinking of the British waitress.

I’ve been saying that since we knew Biden had won. Trump’s followers love POWER, and Trump is a loser.

But of course since November 2020 the media have been working to sell the idea that He’s Still Here. And they need him to Still be Here because OMFG the ratings!!!1!!!

And they’re STILL trying to sell the idea the Trump is a powerful man. They play up the visits to Mar-a-Lago and the deferential verbiage from GOP Senators and Representatives, and hope we’ll all conclude that Trump is BIG BIG BIG.

Well, his waistline may be BIG BIG BIG. But I strongly suspect that some large percentage of the deference still shown to Trump by GOP players is due to their swallowing whole the story pushed by a media desperate for ratings.

He’s NOT still here. He’s NOT the Man with the Power. He still gets some donations—but so do his imitators, and they are hoping he’ll be officially declared irrelevant as soon as possible.

Donald is a sad little sociopath, sweating away the days until he’s indicted and tried. The media will continue working feverishly to make him the Big Bad…but as time goes by they will have to give it up.

This topic (media efforts to keep the news Trumpy as means of goosing ratings) may well deserve its own thread. But I’ll just add: not five minutes ago, CNN’s Erin Burnett told us that George P. Bush has “embraced” (exact quote) Trump, and how can he do that given how his family feels about Trump? And isn’t this a sign of how massive is Trump’s power?!?!?

NO. It isn’t. And I bet “embrace” is an overstatement for whatever it is that George P. Bush said. He’s just announced that he’s running for Texas Attorney General. A report on that:

That seems to be the “embrace”—GP Bush wants to run against a Republican that Trump likes, so Bush called Donald as a courtesy.

But Erin Burnett and many of her colleagues believe they’re helping themselves by selling the “embrace” idea, apparently. In my view they are just strangling their credibility.

And that makes me genuinely sad (no schadenfreude).

I remember a quote I remember reading on the bye-and-bye in the run-up to the 2016 elections:

“Trump represents something of a quandary for the media, especially TV networks. Privately, TV news producers acknowledge that Trump has turbocharged their ratings… Essentially, TV news producers are wondering: “How do we keep getting the great ratings without helping elect the Fourth Reich?”

I finally found the piece:

I don’t think you need to feel sad with regards to Burnett’s credibility. I think you need to feel sad with regard to Bush’s dignity:

Twitter post include pictures of the cringeworthy koozie.

The quotes sound like they came from a 6-year-old.

Well, they did, if you’re talking about the guy’s personal level of maturity and political sophistication.

That’s an insult to 6-year olds.

DeJoy of Schadenfreude:

This news makes my day! Thanks for posting!

My pleasure!

ETA: This article contains some fun twitter reactions to the news:

i know this will bring dejoy to rachel maddow. she was wondering when this would happen.

Drain the swamp.

and it is the first thing dr. maddow mentioned.

Her entire show tonight is an important one, IMO.

Indeed. Wow, some really sick people have been elected. No wonder they want people looking at pizza places and mysterious blood drinkers instead of who is really being elected.
