The Court of Appeals requires you to be a member of that court’s bar. It’s pretty easy and just some paperwork. It does not mean the lawyer is unlicensed. Still, it’s embarrassing.
You would certainly expect anyone licenses to practice law to know which courts they’d been admitted to. As you say, it’s simple to do and is a well-understood feature of American law in IAFAIK all 50 states.
This lawyer may have made an honest mistake. but far more likely it’s evidence of something sadly lacking in his diligence as an Officer of the Court as opposed to just a hack for hire who happens to write legalese, not the sports page.
I agree completely. The imbedded video said “unlicensed.” It’s not quite that bad. But, yes, stupid.
And fees. He probably hasn’t been paid.
Ah, NINE years in a federal penitentiary for another January 6, 2021 traitor. It does my heart good.
Mississippi man sentenced to 9 years in prison for attacking Capitol police on Jan. 6
A Mississippi man and his cousin from Alabama were sentenced to prison for their role in the Jan. 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol, the Justice Department announced this week.
Thomas Harlen Smith, 45, of Mathiston, Mississippi, was sentenced to 108 months in prison, and 36 months of supervised release, the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Northern District of Mississippi said in a news release Tuesday. His cousin, Donnie Duane Wren, 44, of Athens, Alabama, was sentenced to 12 months and one day in prison, with 24 months of supervised release.
Further on in the article is this nifty bit:
Before entering the grounds, Smith climbed up a column near the African American History Museum holding an “outdated” Mississippi state flag, the U.S. Attorney’s Office said.
Gee, I wonder what “outdated” flag it was. /s
# Sidney Powell pleads guilty in Georgia election interference case
She is pleading to six misdemeanor charges, according to the agreement read in court Thursday. She will get 12 months of probation for each count, as well as a $6,000 fine.
As part of the agreement, Powell must “testify truthfully about any codefendants” involved in the case and “provide all documents to the district attorney’s office” relevant to their case against the other co-defendants, according to Judge Scott McAfee.
That’s kraken me up.
Is that 12 years of probation, and a 36k fine? The article isn’t clear.
She should be dis-barred as well. Probably a moot point though. I wonder if she can practice while on probation. Hopefully no one would hire her anyway.
Putting it here rather than the Georgia thread because of the snickering schadenfreude. I wonder how carefully she’ll be able to testify truthfully without further making certain voting system’s cases against her. Probably the prosecutors will be careful to not further incriminate her, but oh boy, just telling what she knew and when is likely to shut down a lot of possible “I was saying what I knew at the time!”
Losing her license to practice law is probably waaaaaay down on her list of issues right now.
Clearly she needs more practice.
Advocate at her disbarment hearing:
“I feel she can serve her defendant clients better now that she has gained so much insight into the legal process from a client’s perspective.”
Maybe, but how about the fact that she doesn’t seem to understand the law or what breaking it means?
DJT in 3…2…1. Never met the women. Deep state, not my type, fake news, various slanderous insults, playground nickname smears, yahdah, yahdah…
All to boring to repeat.
I expect to see “Sydney Bowel” appear on Truth Social now.
Another cop who (allegedly) participated in Trump’s treason gets arrested.
The Department of Justice (DOJ) said a Maryland police officer was arrested and is facing charges for his alleged participation in the Jan. 6, 2021, attack at the Capitol.
In a news release, authorities said Justin Lee of Rockville, Md., was arrested Thursday in Washington, D.C., and was indicted on seven charges, including felony offenses of civil disorder and assaulting, resisting or impeding certain officers.
Lee, 25, was also charged with several misdemeanor offenses, including entering and remaining in a restricted building or grounds, disorderly and disruptive conduct in a restricted building or grounds and engaging in physical violence in a restricted building or grounds.
According to court documents, Lee “forcibly assaulted a law enforcement officer and obstructed, impeded, or interfered with a law enforcement officer during a civil disorder” on the day of the insurrection.
&
According to The Washington Post, Lee applied to join the Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD) six months after the insurrection occurred, becoming a police officer in January 2022.
Ah, so he decided to be a cop after he committed treason. Stellar! Also, what’s the Montgomery County’s background check system?
That link takes me to a justice .gov website. Here is the link to the Post.
From the Post article:
The police department said it hired Lee roughly one year after the Jan. 6 riot and didn’t know about his alleged involvement in the attack until July 2023, when it learned he was under FBI investigation.
And:
The Montgomery County Police Department said in a news release that it has suspended Officer Justin Lee without pay and is “taking steps to terminate his employment” after his indictment on felony charges.
This is the best news I’ve heard in a while (gift link):
The judge in Alex Jones’s bankruptcy case ruled on Thursday that he will not be allowed to use his Chapter 11 filing to evade paying more than $1 billion in verdicts to families of the Sandy Hook shooting.
The ruling by Judge Christopher Lopez in a Houston bankruptcy court means that Mr. Jones, the Infowars conspiracy broadcaster, will likely be working the rest of his life to pay his debt to the families.
Fuck yeah!
This is great news. Well done, Judge Lopez!!
Of course it will be appealed.
